The Secret Circle: Witch Bling (PHOTO RECAP)

If I were a teenage witch and found myself mixed up in the events of "Medallion" I'd start boning up on my SAT prep and looking seriously into colleges. Has Chance Harbor ever felt MORE like a moribund small town worth escaping from? It's just a bunch of people who can barely tolerate each other sitting around waiting for things to happen to them. Don't worry, kids, there's a bigger world out there. Hang tight! It's no wonder they've resorted to drugs and impromptu booty calls.

"Medallion" followed my favorite episode of the season, so naturally it didn't quite stack up. Every time this show convinces me it's moving forward it finds new ways to stall. For example, even though Cassie personally witnessed her father escaping death AND dug up a coffin full of dog bones, she still spent most of the episode wondering aloud whether he was still alive. Go ahead and jump to that conclusion, Cassie! Meanwhile the parents were still fighting over crystals as the threat of witch hunters continued to loom. Plus the central love pentagram just got confusing and then fell apart. Hurry, Blackwell! Save us from these winter doldrums!

That description makes it sound like I didn't like the episode, but I did! Sure, "Medallion" didn't exactly set the room on fire and incinerate any nearby witch hunters, but there was a pervasive sense of dread that amped up the tension a bit. Plus the last few minutes were EXCELLENT. Let's talk about it!

The episode began after Cassie made the mistake of swinging by her place to pick up some clothes, and in that five minute span EVERYBODY came to visit her.

Adam had found out about Cassie and Jake's grave-digging date and he was NOT happy about it. First of all, that is a very LOL thing to hear about someone. You been diggin' up graves, girl? But yeah Adam was concerned that it would out the circle or something, but really he was more concerned that Jake was stealin' his lady.

Anywho, Cassie brought up the fact that she'd found her father's medallion and it was probably going to provide some decent protection against future hostiles. Of course Adam wasn't having it.

This episode attempted to convince us that Adam is Chance Harbor's Voice of Reason except his reasons were all so dumb? The gist was that he didn't think Cassie should be looking into the existence of her father or dark magic AT ALL and that the overwhelming power of the circle should be enough protection for her. Except, you know, Cassie's dark magic had saved their lives countless times already? Plus he just wrote off the medallion with "we don't even know what that thing is." Cool logic, Adam. Great job.

Loved this run-in between Faye and Jake:

Jake smiled! I'd forgotten that he and Faye used to be a couple, and this tiny beat where she teased him for going after Cassie was a huge clue that maybe Jake and Faye are the better couple? Both characters just seemed so much more vital via their trash talk. Almost like they're teenagers or something instead of grim witchcraft missionaries.

So then apparently within ten seconds of Adam taking off, Cassie received a visit from that lady who'd spoken to her in Jake's memory.

Meet Lucy the psychic. She'd been there during the boat fire, and as we'd suspected, Cassie's mind-meld with Jake had indeed altered the fabric of reality as Lucy suddenly "remembered" Cassie. It was just a very cool, almost Philip K. Dick moment, so of course the conversation quickly moved onto some kind of muddled "the witch hunters are coming" thing.

What else is new, lady?

Meanwhile Charles paid a visit to Dawn. He was still pretty sore about the fact that she'd teamed up with Ethan to steal his crystal.

Love Dawn so much. Anyway, all the parent stuff this week was, yet again, related to their weak-sauce power struggle. Except for a MINOR thing that happened toward the end of the episode, none of it was very important. It was mostly just this:

Riveting stuff.

Back at the Witch House basement, Cassie raised the Balcoin medallion up to that symbol someone had carved in the ceiling and caused a dang EARTHQUAKE!

There was this funny moment where Cassie told Jake to "RUN!" and he sort of started running up the stairs, but then stopped and came back to just tackle her.

Then Adam came in all mad at everybody. He played it off like he was mostly just concerned about the earthquake, but we all knew he was only concerned about the earthquake IN HIS HEART.

Back at the Boat House Grill, Faye was pretty efficiently trash talkin' Cassie AND Melissa's friendship with Diana. Then she finished off her bout of jerkery with her newest plan for regaining powers.

And Melissa was ALL ABOUT IT.

Meanwhile Cassie and Jake decided to visit Lucy at Chance Harbor's finest lodgings:

According to Lucy, the medallion needed to be "activated" in order to work. Already I was like, "What?" How'd it get DE-activated exactly? Plus by this point her credibility was pretty low considering she was a psychic who was AT the boat fire but still didn't know Blackwell was still alive. Oh well. Anyway, it didn't take Cassie and Jake long to put all their trust in this lady.

So then after they took off, who should show up at Lucy's motel but DAWN. They'd been buddies back in the day and for some reason Dawn harbored a grudge against Lucy, calling her a backstabber and turncoat but that she'd be willing to forgive Lucy if she'd help her find ALL THE CRYSTALS. Haha classic Dawn. The cool part was that Dawn only knew Lucy was in town because one of the FIVE SCARS on her palm started bleeding, indicating that someone she'd marked was back. So just to be clear, when a witch marks someone, she cuts HER OWN palm and then must go through life with wounds that RE-OPEN? That's it, witchcraft is officially kind of sucky.

Speaking of sucky, Cassie learned a tough lesson about revealing her hiding nook to cute boys.

The medallion had gone missing and all signs pointed to Adam. Fortunately they knew where he was: Having a birthday party! Ethan and Diana had teamed up to throw Adam a surprise party at the Boat House and everybody was blowin' the roof off the joint!

Ethan was feeling and looking GREAT ever since snaking that crystal from Charles. He'd even sort of tried to get Diana and Adam back together. Anything for his boy-witch, you know?

Meanwhile Faye and Melissa were outside doing ALL the drugs!

High Melissa is my new favorite character. It's pretty similar to Demon Melissa except High Melissa's in a much better mood. To be honest, this whole drug subplot had me worried at first because it's SO After School Special. But then I came to embrace how dumb it was and also the fact that at least Melissa's getting screen time, so that works for me. I just hope they go SUPER FAR into her addiction so that we'll get a future episode where she sells her car for $10 and then falls asleep in a dumpster and the County has to come take away her cats and there has to be a witch-intervention. I mean, if you're gonna do a drug subplot, do it RIGHT.

Oh and the part where Faye tried to cut lines during a gust of wind made me laugh so much:

Meanwhile inside everyone was toasting the birthday boy.

LOL @ High Melissa:

Anyway, after Ethan gave a touching and not-at-all awkward speech to the teenage extras posing as Adam's friends about how much he loves his son, Diana stepped up to bat and really gushed.

It loved how visibly pissed Cassie was the whole time! I was with her. Her whole #1 thing is discovering the truth about her father and then some teenage dude had the audacity to steal her medallion and make her attend his birthday party? Very smooth, Adam. But their whole romance thing looked doomed anyway since things were heating back up between Adam and Diana.

So anyway, Charles decided it was definitely a cool and normal thing to attend a teenage boy's surprise party and it gave him an opportunity to confront Ethan about stealing his crystal.

Yep, that was the extent of his plan. Charles WITCH ROOFIED somebody. Ugh, these parents.

So then the witch drug dealer showed up and had an immediate connection with High Melissa.

Uh-oh, this was not headed anywhere good.

So after Cassie finally confronted Adam about stealing her S***, he owned up to it and returned the medallion. But not before dropping some big hints about the fact that Jake had murdered tons of witches while he was being misled by the witch hunters. It was actually a totally fair point to make and I'm glad this show finally addressed it.

I loved that Cassie actually walked away from him when he didn't deny it. Few things are as much of a turn-off as murder, especially when it turns out he'd murdered those people for no reason. As much as I'm glad Jake's going to be a regular character, I'm also glad he's not getting off so easy with the other characters. He better WORK to get back in their good graces.

So then Lucy swung by Dawn's house to help her find those crystals, but ended up having much more violent intentions.

We discovered that while Lucy was indeed at the boat house fire, she'd been a turncoat who was helping the witch hunters kill Blackwell. Right after stabbing Dawn she informed her that the witch hunters would be back soon and that she was going to strip the kids' powers that night during the ceremony. This is what I meant when I said the parents had ONE interesting thing happen to them: Now Dawn knows the witch hunters are back in play. Only took 13 episodes, but I'm glad the parents are slowly getting involved with the only plotline that matters.

Cassie didn't yet know Lucy was a villain, but because she's Cassie she'd completely trusted her for no real reason. So then Cassie needed to convince the circle to help her activate the medallion in the ceremony that Lucy had planned. As far as a circle of teenage witches is concerned, the question of whether or not to use magic was a major NO DUH scenario.

Sure, Adam had reservations, but that's Adam for you.

Oh and then Ethan passed out from his witch roofies and Charles swooped in for the steal.

Ethan was SO MAD when he woke up. Uh-oh, it looks like we're probably going to get another whole episode where a parent steals a crystal from another parent!

Later behind the witch house Lucy was instructing the circle on how to activate the medallion. But right away something was wrong: They all started feeling drained much in the same way they had when Fay attempted to channel their powers at the dance.

So that's when Cassie immediately knew something was up.

And that's when Lucy IMMEDIATELY admitted what she'd done, which is such a TV villain thing to do. The biggest question is, she acted like the medallion had SUCCESSFULLY drained the circle's powers, much in the same way it had apparently drained the powers from thousands of witches over the centuries. I don't know if Lucy was right or not, but that's a fairly serious thing to have happen if true! Did the circle really lose their powers? How would we even tell? I don't know. Either way Cassie was TICKED.

As much as we'd seen Cassie take care of business in the past, she seriously got fierce in this scene in a way that made her slightly scary. FINALLY that dark magic was of making her seem, well, dark. It was actually really satisfying though, especially when she curtly instructed Adam to forget about Lucy after she'd dashed into the woods. If the circle didn't already know it before, Cassie's definitely HWIC.

Also there was this tiny moment where Jake walked up to her while she was STARING INTO A FIRE and tried to talk to her, but she wasn't having it.

Dang! Cassie was just sinking her own 'ships right and left.

So then Charles made an apparently routine stop by Dawn's house and found her in a bad state.

Luckily he knew just how to save her:

So then this episode ended with a montage and it was AWESOME. As a particularly grimy Raveonettes song played, everything started crumbling for everyone and it was genuinely cinematic and unsettling.

First of all High Melissa went downtown and met up with the drug dealer.

It was definitely weird when she told him he reminded her of Nick, but it's still unclear whether she likes this guy or just wants all of his delicious, delicious drugs. (Wasn't it slightly disappointing that these witch drugs didn't seem to actually give them any powers? So they're basically just doing coke? Very cool.)

Anyway, then Faye showed up in Jake's room. I guess he'd texted her "COME OVER ENTER HOUSE WALK IN2 MY ROOM" and there was still some mystery as to why.

Whoa! I loved this. It was a good reminder that, OH YEAH, Jake is a "bad boy." Plus I like seeing Faye mix it up more, and also I'm kinda thinking that Jake and Faye make a good pair anyway? I know this won't lead to anything except an annoyance on Cassie's part, but still, nice surprise.

Also I guess Diana left a bunch of cookies for Adam in his cupboard. Not quite as sexy as a surprise booty call, but whatever.

Meanwhile Lucy met up with a familiar (and now scarred) face.

Whoops! Apparently it wasn't enough for her to be a double agent and to have successfully infiltrated the witches, she was supposed to steal the medallion too. Oh well, you live and you learn! And then you die.

And in one final creepy moment, Cassie returned to the basement on her own and started earthquakin' again.

And that's when she somehow established contact with Blackwell.

BOOM. Pretty cool. I liked this closing montage so much. I remember when Lost was on the air and all the recaps I read were like, "Stop ending every episode with musical montages, Lost!" and I just straight-up never understood that. So what if music montages are storytelling shortcuts? It's effective! If it takes a Raveonettes song to make this show truly feel vital, then great! Go with what works!

As for the episode, it was a bit of a comedown after the previous very killer installment, but I think the temptation to feel like the show was stalling again isn't completely fair. The parents were definitely spinning wheels right up until Dawn's stabbing, and the kids definitely reverted back to former relationship statuses, but there was definitely a sense of disintegration permeating everything. Cassie's losing her composure, both of her potential romances are circling the drain, Melissa's high, even Adam seems pretty close to losing his mind. PLEASE lose your mind, Adam. This show could use a game changer or two, and I don't know about you guys but I'm getting the distinct feeling that we'll be getting one soon.

QUESTIONS:

... Do you approve of the Faye & Jake hookup?

... Will Dawn remember what Lucy told her about the witch hunters coming or will she conveniently forget for six episodes?

... Are you worried about Melissa's drug problem?

... What is the appropriate number of chinese lanterns for a teenage boy's birthday party?

"Something happens to Adam in the last act that's only temporary, but it definitely changes his character," Dekker teases (very carefully). "He gets to be somebody else for a bit. We were filming in a gigantic church downtown, and it was nice for me, because Adam's such a nice guy that it was fun to kind of do something different. He's very reliable, he's the totem pole of the circle. Brittany and I have some really great romantic stuff to do in that episode, too. I think it's one of our best episodes, if not our best."

OH SWEET LORD YES. FINALLY.

don't you think they need a bit more lighter subplot? Like, a random girl in school messes up with them and then they do stupid teenage-y stuffs but with magic? Cos i feel bad for these kids. let them have careless fun PLS

Aaaalright, TSC, in the nex one or two episodes I want...

Bromance, between Adam and Jake please. I don't mean like the Salvatores, either, in which they growl and raise their eyebrows a whole bunch and smirk and whatnot. I mean, bromance. I remember Chris Zylka saying in an interview that he believes Jake does care for Adam, as a friend, and they never really mentioned Jake's betrayal after Wake (it was Wake, right?) I'd love to hear more about that, find out Jake's reasoning.

I also want the parent's storylines to escalate. I want to see Ethan interact with Blackwell (I've seen the pictures, this better lead to some damn good revelations). I want to see Charles and Dawn either get their act together and Team Work this bitch, or just straight up declare war on one another. And I want Jane, and other elders, to feature, because they always shake things up.

More badass Cassie. More vixen Faye (I honestly thought she was over Jake by now...I don't like that twist for her character, I prefer her when she's just teasing guys as opposed to chasing them. You're better than that, girl!) I want to see Diana do something ridiculous. I want to see an episode in which Adam doesn't interact, mention, or do something that has ANYthing to do with Cassie. And I want to see Melissa befriend Jake, Adam or Cassie, preferably Cassie as I always had those two pegged as a good hoe-mance (that's what they're calling it now, right? Anyway, I think they'd be an awesome duo. I'll hold you to it, TSC.)

A normal person? Yes? No? Maybe? Am I barking up the wrong tree?

And last but not least, some more humor. Not just from Faye. I know Britt Robertson is funny. Jessica Parker Kennedy proved she has a mean funny bone. Not sure about Shelley Henning, but then I would never turn to Diana for comic relief (love the character, but no). Work on Adam a bit and then start giving him some funny lines once watching the character smile doesn't hurt anymore. And Jake doesn't even need funny lines, I just want to see him smirk.

Now, TSC, I'll leave you to it. You've got a lot of work to do.

LOL! Amen to that, gf! haha

I think we should start an Adam wishlist!

1. More bromance and other male characters to befriend him.

2. Less Cassie pinning and more Cassie ... erhm... doing/smoochin/loving.. whatever? Make her feel that star crossed connection and take charge!

3. More humor/ witty banter.

4. More resolution of daddy issues, which means more daddy-son moments and possibly crying or awkward hugging. Then Ethan could really step up and become and actual father figure and atone for whatever the hell he did on the boat incineration incident.

5. Less jealousy and less stringing Diana along.. oh! and definitely less passive aggressiveness.

6. More shirtless scenes.

7. More smirking! and sexy bedroom eyes too....

8. Less shaving? I don't know about all of you girls, but Thomas Dekker's tv.com profile has him sporting some nice facial hair... lol, it adds to his charm.

9. Uhm... more insight into his personality? Have him interact with other characters (other than Diana and Cassie) more.... Also, let us know how he feels about losing his mom for crying out loud! Its like they don't even notice they're orphans... jeez.

10. Let us see what his own natural powers are... does he have an affinity to any particular element? Let him explore more with his magic/ find his own book of shadows/ help Cassie figure hers out... etc!

What else ppl?

OH! Also, thomas dekker can play the guitar!! Come on TSC! Let Adam have a shirtless/guitar playing/raspy singing moment, pretty pleaasseeee?!
Reply

Is Dekker CW shirtlessworthy? I admit I haven't been looking hard, but I don't see that. If he is, he needs to do it, cuz he's getting wrecked on this show.
Reply

I would absolutely say Thomas Dekker is shirtless worthy. But as I've said before, Adam needs an attitude adjustment first. Because there's no way I could find such a tempermantal, theiving little brat attractive, even if he looks like Thomas Dekker.
Flag
@ v: If there is a spell...it won't be used on TSC. Irony, so bitter.
Flag
You know, I tried to look for shirtless dekker photos, and found none... hmmmm... is there a spell to become buff?
Flag
Noo. I want more for Adam, but not any kind of deep bond with Jake. I can take a grudging alliance--which is pretty much what the circle is--but forced and unnaturally fast manhugging makes my nuts ache.

(I really tried to find a better term, but nothing else came close. I do feel bad.)

In fact, I want manBASHING. I want them in each other's faces. Yes. I want Jake to push him once, push him twice, and then get his ass whooped so bad by Adam that Cassie has to pull him off. Then, Cassie can go console Jake's bruised ego or whatever her next stupid move will be, and then Adam can have a dark moment of his own somewhere. His third-wheel Jacob'ing has got to stop. When you're losing, you change tactics or retreat.

People think I'm negative sometimes, but I have dreams, too.

Whoops. Didn't mean movie. Now I'm picturing them arguing over something like Die Hard and The Princess Bride. (In my head, jake wants the Princess Bride. I'm calling the writers, they NEED to do this in an episode.)

I think my issue with the in-your-face-ness is that this show, like TVD, seems determined to turn man-fighting into talking in deep, breathy voices about how both guys know what's best for their girl/their plan/their next movie/ their friends/egos etc...I'd like fighting if it was actual REAL fighting. Use a bit of magic maybe. And fist. For the love of God, it's natural human impulse to want to slice a person, we all feel andgry sometimes, I refuse to believe that all guys just talk about it in low voices, holding their faces up real close, looking down their noses at one another.

I'm sorry, but I have issues with the guys in TVD and TSC and the wat they fight. I want a fight a la Logan Echolls and Duncan whatsit in Veronica Mars (y'know, thrashing one another), something more than a low-voice discussion with undercurrents of rage. That doesn't cut it for me.

So I'll say, either full out war, or bromance.

As well you should, but the problem is that the avg female fan enjoys the two male leads on screen, but the typical canon always has them at odds.

*So*, if they are on screen together, they strongly dislike each other.

*But*, the avg female fan dislikes actual physical violence between them, as it would mar one or both of their pretty faces for entire minutes of the show.

*So*, the next best thing is to have them on-screen, unhappy with each other, but not actually doing anything about it.

Voila, we have bland-to-bad television that the avg female fan finds acceptable, which is usually all that matters.

Omg, I literally had tears in my eyes reading this. HILARIOUS. The screen caps you picked and the shit written on em, I cannot. I was legit crying with laughter.

How could anyone disapprove of Faye's & Jake's hook up? Finally, the best looking people on the show do the nasty. I WANT them together. Such beauty. Im all for it. Its not even fair how gorgeous both Phoebe Tonkin and Chris Zylka are. Like wtf. Please reproduce.

I really wanna see Cassie and jelly & pissed tho. I love the chemistry Britt has with Chris and I do want something to happen between them, but Faye & Jake forever plz & thank you. I think Jake should just bang everyone because hes that hot. Not sorry.

Dont mind Melissa's drug problem as long as we see more of her. Such a great actress and so beautiful!

And I disagree that Jake is a flat character. The show got so much better when HE was introduced. He brought a lot of maturity, sexiness and mystery to the show and hes so yummy I dont care if he just stands there doing nothing. But thats not why I love Jake. I think things got really spiced up when he showed up at Chance Hardor, because before it was all a lil snoozy. Not to mention Chris Zylka is a really good young actor.

JAKE 4EVA. FAYE FTW.

This is gonna be REALLLLY long so bear with me...Ok..so i had to make an account just to comment on here,i just started watching TSC over the weekend cos a friend sent this hilarious photo recap to me,which i love and i enjoyed it and decided to give the show a chance....so far am nt impressed with what have seen except the pilot! which was really good,i think the writers of the show are still figuring out what they really want for this show cos thats what am getting from it...i understand this show is ALL about cassie, but what i dont understand is why other characters are under developed given 13 episodes has gone with little or nothing about others..nick was killed off and the only thing i know about him was that he was melisa's shag buddy..wth??,faye which is my fave probably reason why i will keep on watching i dnt get her sometimes, shes made a badwitch, goodwitch now a badwitch..i dnt get it..if you wanna make her the bad witch pls go all the way and make her "DAMON"..now diana...smh i really like the actress playin her but the only thing i know about her is that shes daddy's little girl and adam's ex...can they like develop this pple into a FULL BLOWN 100% WITCH in the words of faye, and now adam..omg..i dnt wanna bash dekker cos i loved him on terminator the series, this guy is a good actor give him something to work with rather than over protective, jealous boyfriend which he is technically nt even dating cassie..its so sad..wow..melissa..lol i dnt even know what to say..other than being nick's shagbuddy, faye's friend treated like doormat what else no character development at all..dont even get me started on jake ..i really like this show and i think it has potential ..but i feel the writers needs to develop its characters FIRST,so we can have the options of rooting for them separately, and start allowing them make individual magic cos it gets boring if only cassie does everytin all the time, always to the rescue even in situations that others can come in..she is always there which can be unrealistic sometimes especially the episode where faye got that dark magic and drained others of their power and they could have allowed faye go chk on melissa cos arent they friends??..so scenarios like that....dont introduce romance or couple when your characters arent developed yet,cos even though jake/cassie/adam is the triangle onthe show..i find my self rooting for none..cos i cant find a good reason for either of them to be with cassie even though adam and cassie have it written in the stars..so develop your casts first, give them individual powers, then bring in love interests for them dont bring them when we know nothing about the main casts cos its just pointless, holden for example where is he?? tot he was a potential interest for diana, lee, another one even i heard there is another one on the way for diana again..wow is that how boy crazy all the female witches are..pls secret circle writers take a step back and make some corrections..i hope things get better hopefully if picked for a second season....on another note...is it me or does anyone else sees the chemistry between faye and all the characters she has interacted with i mean her circle both male/female..lol,wow phoebe is really good with chemistry....that pilot scene btwn diana&faye is also a good storyline...imagine a good/badwitch combo..that would be xplosive and that makes for a good drama....i love the show and willing to give it a chance..and also price price pricepeterson!!!...wow...your recaps are realllly good i read your recap b4 i watch any episode..you are a genius...keep it up..

After watching TVD for two and a half years I'm so used to people being stabbed all the time that for a moment I was actually surprised when Dawn started bleeding after being stabbed. I just expected her to carry on like nothing happened or turn into dead Original mode. Then I remembered that witches don't do cool stuff like that.

-I wholeheartedly approve of Faye and Jake. She's a bad girl, she needs a bad guy. Jake needs to piss off Cassie more, because Cassie gets awesome when she gets pissed. Plus, they're teens. They do stupid teen stuff.

-I'm hoping they jump right into it. With last episode's awesome, plus the near-killing/threatening going on this episode, I'm hoping the action kicks it up a notch.

-They're teens, they do stupid teen stuff. Like witch drugs that are normal drugs... or are they? I'm hoping they have some witchy aftereffect that starts taking them over for evil or summat like that. Bringing down more demons and whatnot. It's not like she's never been there before.

-15. I would know. I've never had a Chinese lantern birthday party before. Now I'm sad.

1) Yeah, I do. They're kinda awesome. Not sure if they're awesome together, but there is chemistry. Besides, maybe it will make Cassie jealous and maybe Faye will hate her even more after she finds out Jake's using her... Just what we need.

2) The latter, give or take a few episodes.

3) No, I love it. I was like 'YAY, she has a storyline'. It made me kinda happy. Although her drugdealer is a creep..

4) 132 or something like that. Diana knows best, she probably has a flowchart for such things.

Can't really say anything else about this episode, it was decent, but not ... 'wow'. The promo made it look a lot cooler than it actually was. Oh, one more thing, Cassie's totally awesome when she's using her dark magic, all bossy and stuff. Love it! Need more!

another awesome recap, does not top the last week's (just like the episode itself) but still, awesome:) for the questions:

- I hated faye and jake hookup, yet it was so coming (especially after the scene at the party with Lee the creepy spirit guy).. I practically hate faye just like her mom, so it was pretty disappointing for me to see them together.. and now we will have to listen for a zillion episodes of "we slept together / you belong to me/ cassie is not your type" bla bla from Faye and those meaningless smirks from Jake..

-that will remain as mystery until next week.. I'm betting on she will, and will use it to demand the crystal and just because of that Charles will not belive, and then another "your crystal / mine crystal" stuff will take on..

- melissa's problem will probably increase and it feels like my prediction of her fate will be like Nick's, will be true:/

- no clue:)

and I have a question of my own: where the hell is Cassie's grandma!

What I just can't figure out is a circle is 6 and the families are predetermined - but all of their parents were in the circle? I just can't get it to work out in my mind. Best I have got is there are 2 witches from each family and they made a super circle. But I'm pretty sure that would make all or most the kids cousins. Webbed feet are in the making.
Reply
Flag
It is confusing...the original circle is 12 members, FYI the circle in the book is 12 members also, it seems the show writers have decided to shrink it to 6 members which makes sense because that is a lot of characters to keep up with on screen, however they still had to keep in the fact that all the parents were in the circle thus confusing us all.

Right, I need to see a damn flowchart already. The best I can imagine is that there are several circles in town, so there are tons of witches. 12 witches hooked up, but only six of them were from the current bloodlines. But in general I DON'T UNDERSTAND any of it. Like, so, the current circle will then meet 6 more witches and then make 6 babies for the future generation? I don't know.
Reply
Flag
They are probably all destined to hook up with another circle in town that has 2 girls and 4 guys, and all spring out babies at the same time.

Most likely while they're still minors, judging by the relative ages of the parents and elders.

Eventually we must all learn that hard lesson about showing our hiding nooks to cute boys....

The thing is, we know why Adam's like this: all his life he's been the single "parent" of his alcoholic dad. And Ethan is a BUSINESS OWNER! Meaning Adam has probably had to oversee the running of "Chance Grill" most of his life, too, making sure his dad didn't drink it away, cleaning him up and putting him to bed at the end of the night, then doing his homework. It explains Adam's need for Diana: even if he's attracted to someone else, strong, mature Diana is the perfect mommy for his little dad-child. I mean, look at the party he got for what, his 17th birthday? TOASTS?!? I half expected them to break into "For He's a Jolly Good Fellow" followed by someone shouting "Here here!" Adam has never gotten to be young, reckless, fun, and he'll probably never be the bad boy. He's never gotten to be a kid, and that's a kind of stunted emotional development in itself. But he is a protective, compassionate and quite believable character.

Jake, however, comes off more as insecure boy trying hard to LOOK like bad boy. Seriously, all the bad boy about him reeks of deliberate effort to cultivate the image. But then, I don't think he's that hot, either. Any way you slice it, he's no Damon Salvatore.

Dang, I think you nailed both characters. Obviously I'm a Jake fan, but he's actually pretty flat... That is, until he banters with Faye. As for Adam, you definitely described what makes him tick. Now I just hope something rattles him out of that personality into something a little more surprising.

What's with CW teens having a solitary adult in their lives and having that adult turn out to be a total drunk/waste?

BTW, no one slices up against Damon Salvatore. :)

It's actually intentional... The less we see parents the more teenagers seem like autonomous heroes. The problem is, the premise of TSC involves parents so the show tries to have it both ways and it comes off confusing and dumb. Just include the parents already, we'll still respect the kids, don't worry.

I know! Someday they'll introduce a character who grew up in a completely healthy, caring nuclear family and that person will end up being a sociopath with no redeeming qualities. Not even dimples!

But will they have cheekbones? Clavicles? It's CW, and one out of three is a must.

Just crazy-eyebrows, most likely.

1. I mean he has to get it from somewhere. I can't see Cassie having a romance with anyone she seems too "untouchable" kind of has that sacrificed savior thing going on. I'd like to see her display a softer/sexier side. Honestly I'd live her with jake but I feel like him and Adam made their desires known a little too early in the game. Hope they have a true "bad boy" for her.

2) hahaha I can't even answer this question seriously all I see is CRYSTAL CRYSTAL CRYSTAL. Oh how I look forward to your recaps!

3) honestly I'll take a cracked-out alcoholic anything Melissa as long as she has screen time.... Is this bad? I'm sure she'll hit rock bottom and then they'll lift her up but I just liver her, she doesn't annoy me as much and Im *fingers crossed* hoping they'll see this as an oop to really develop her character and he her humanity. But I can easily see her falling for the wannabe drug dealer since he reminds her if nick. I can see someone hanging around someone that remjnds thrm of slmekne they recently lost.

3) depends on your budget

Yeah, I don't know about the romances either. It seems very small-town, where people just pair off because that's who's available. It shouldn't feel so compulsory as it does. Could people flirt and/or go on dates? If Cassie and Jake had actually had sparks before he took off, that whole thing would've been more powerful.

Am I the only one who started laughing when Cassie said "daddy" at the end? I know it should have a creepy feel to it but it just cracked me up. A high Melissa isn't good, if this keeps up we just might see evil Melissa again and this time she will be trying to shank someone if they keep her away from her devil's dust.

I loved it, but yeah it was especially weird she used that word in that she's never met the guy. "Daddy" implies a close relationship. So it was a little over the top but I LIKE over the top. I wish this show had more of that. I really don't mind laughing at craziness, I'm getting a thrill either way.

Hahaha! Bravo! I thought the same thing. I felt bad like this was supposed to be a sensitive moment but it was too creepy like those possessed prepubescent kids thy always get to sing those nursery rhymes in those slasher films. No thanks!!! Yea if Melissa needs an intervention.... Is scared straight still around???

haha, I agree! I think if she had said, "father" it would have come across better... and I would love to see Melissa played out like that!

Exactly. If she would have said "father" then that creepy feel would have stuck but that "daddy" line just ruin it for me and cracked me up at the same time.

"Father?" What is this? Star Wars? Is John Blackwell going to show up and say "Cassie Blake SSSSHHHH, I AM your father SSSHHHH!!!!!" Daddy is much more natural for a girl who's never even laid eyes on her father in her whole life.

Well, as far as the episode go, I really liked Dawn being stabbed by the psychic (didn't see it coming!), Cassie getting all scary bad-ass in the end, Jake and Faye hooking up at the end and the possible arrival of Blackwell and meanie witchhunter at the same time next episode.

I've been looking forward to see how the parents are going to react to blackwell's presence and how his other daughter(?) history is going to be played out.

How badass was that psychic, huh?

Cassie: "So you're a psychic?"

Lucy: "Correct."

Cassie: "But you can't see when anyone is going to approach you, can't see when someone is going to attack you, can't see when to blab your evil schemes, can't see when they're going to backfire, can't see when the medallion has done its job, can't see when someone's going to revive a woman you killed, and can't see when your boss is going to kill you? After 16 years, your powers haven't improved one drop?"

Lucy: "Correct."

Cassie: "Welcome to TSC!"

I love how Melissa came back to leapfrog over Faye as the biggest Witchnip tweaker in town. And as said, the Witchnip doesn't even do anything. Why would it? Cassie's not using it. At least High Melissa is currently fun and not the pathetic, sloppy, wreck I anticipate. She's still pretty hot right now, so I'm rooting for the drug dealer perfectly re-typecast from AHS.

And good ol' Faye.

Jake: "I know I treated you like crap, but Cassie's treating ME like crap now, so, at last...I shall have you...again."

Faye: "Yes, please!"

Jake: "Damn right."

I gave a YEEEESSS loud enough to make dogs bark across the street when Lucy stabbed Dawn, and an even louder NOOOO~ when Charles came to revive her. I keep trying to get in, and they PUSH me back out...

Haha you are the best. That totally slipped by me, how awful Lucy's abilities were. What a useless lady! Again, this show could've taken two seconds to establish her abilities, but much like the witches they just TELL us they're powerful without showing us. I don't share your hate of Dawn though... If anything she's just getting campier and campier, very AHS even. Even though her story's boring right now, she definitely makes up for it with facial expressions.
Reply

That's the problem you getting first crack at events, you leave me with less to mock. Well, I can still get in secondhand jabs.

It would be at least okay if they said the witches were badass and didn't prove it, but they almost always prove the opposite here. The higher-ups don't just fail to be awesome, they just fail. It might be one thing if the solitary Elder that showed up knew how to work a cellphone to call for backup. No defense against powers-for-a-day crystals, no defense against confusion spells, letting people walk up behind them and club them in the back of the head, leaving witches in coffins, Dr. Evil style. They're wasting the supernatural element. If they'd just made this another One Tree Hill, I could've nodded my head and walked away, but nooo...

To me, Dawn's just a blonde, MILF-y pile of Why. If all she wanted was crystal-crystal-crystal so badly, why did she have Charles kill Cassie's mom? Any wild magic boost they might've gotten was wiped out when they cripple-binded the circle. Dawn's goals and hijinks have nothing to do with the tweens and would likely have been easier if she'd just left our little ClopClop at home with her mom.

It feels like when we watched Lost, and it felt like that guy had no idea what he was going to do from one week to the next, and he later admits he had no idea what he was going to do from one week to the next.

Amazing recap as always! Crystal, crystal, crystal, HILARIOUS :D

1) I don't care who he hooks up with I just hope they have some scenes with Jake shirtless.

2) She better remember. It's time the parents actually got involved in what's going on. I hope we see more of Ethan, he seems like he has a prominent dark side which would be fun to see. Also when are they going to address the fact that Charles KILLED CASSIE'S MOM!!!

3) Not worried about it if it get's her screen time.

4) About as appropriate as all the high schoolers at a party IN A BAR with no one getting drunk. Also who are all these people? The only people Adam has ever talked to are the circle members and that witch hunter that Cassie lit on fire.

Yeah and isn't it weird that Adam doesn't have guy friends? As someone else pointed out this show could really use a bromance of some kind. And obviously the parents need to interact with the kids more. As for the Charles-Amelia revelation, I would not be shocked if Cassie doesn't find out until season 5, with the pace this show's operating at so far.

He kinda did...but he turned out to be the witch hunter Cassie blew up with her mind! The heart of any good show is a bromance. They desperately need one.

I screamed in Joy when Dawn got stabbed!!! I was so surprised and so bored in general with her storyline, it looks like we all were!

so glad Adam is interested, i think in Diana, now Cassie can get a new character in to date!!!

who saw it coming, Melissa would be the junkie and not faye? Love that surprise!!
Reply

I squealed when Dawn got stabbed and then sighed when Charles came gallivanting in. They should have left the episode with her bleeding out and had him come in the next episode just to make it a wee bit suspenseful.

I must be in the minority here, I vote "no" to the romance. Occasional hookups by characters like Jake and Faye..sure, whatever. Diana and Adam's tension that reminds me of two thirty yr olds separated...I can deal with that. But Cassie and Jake. No. Cassie and Adam. No. I actually like my girl Cassie single and not ready to mingle. I think because of the audience they like to throw in romance just because...but don't underestimate the audience or the things they'll find most thrilling. The greatness of the show isn't in the romance, it's in the history of Cassie and the others, the family secrets, the quest to discover themselves and survive. I think if they transfer some of the romantic inclinations to other aspects of the show it'd be even better than it already is.

Price, I ADORE THIS RECAP. Like, CRYSTALS are everywhere! That's exactly what I think about when I watch those scenes... "Crystals, crystals, crystals....." lol

I think Adam's actions are pretty hilarious. He reminds me of a leprechaun.

Ugh I want Jake/Cassie when Cassie is evil. That would be hot.

I'm meh about Jake/Faye, been there done that, moved on.

I think Adam/Faye would be more interesting to watch.

I don't even know what this show is doing anymore. But I'll enjoy the ride.

I saw that in the next episode SPOILER ALERT: Diana will hook up with Lee. They will all get high and she'll hook up with Lee lol. How would you feel about that?

Reply

Oh I'm totally on board with that. The problem is this show has relationships with NO romance. I mean, except for a few vague sentences Jake and Cassie never really even had a proper connection. Like, people need to go on a damn date and tell each other they like them and hook up. SOMETHING to indicate they're a couple. I know they're just kids, but I feel like I'd be more invested in these relationships if they even WERE relationships. Go ahead, get mushy Secret Circle.
Reply
Flag
I have a problem with the characters here. Even though I like them, they aren't special in any way and now if anyone asked me who's my fav character I wouldn't know how to answer them. Same goes for ships. I don't ship anyone. I think some relationships would be hot but I don't ship them like I do on TVD. I would prefer it if they did what you said, about the dates and all...but first they need to fix the magic! Like, their magic is still lame. I remember Charmed...they were able to do anything with their magic on that show! I would like for them to fix the magic first and then to fix the relationships.

Flag
Love the RECAP!!! Main reason while I continue to watch this show which is meh most of the time... but we can still hope (TVD had terrible moments in season 1).

Adam's character is still the weakest link for me - Faye, Jake, high Melissa and badass Cassie rock though...
Reply
Flag
Staff
Totally. It's weird because TVD started so weak but really came together by ep 6. TSC started SO strong but then immediately dropped off and has struggled to get good again. It's definitely lagging, which is a bummer, but I still get enough out of it that it's worth it. I probably think about it WAY more than is necessary, and there aren't too many shows I can say that about.
Reply
Flag
GREAT RECAP, as always. Yeah, Its refreshing that murder here is a turn off... while in TVD it seems that it is what turn them ON. (Love them, anyway).

I am tired of Cassie romantic issues. I don't root for Cassie/Adam or Cassie/Jake. I root for Faye and everyone, though.

I am surprised that you didn't comment how convenient was for Cassie to remember her dad's spell in the RIGHT moment: Now I remember... Fire!
Reply

Haha you're totally right that WAS convenient. My brain just sort of watches this show without thinking too hard and that's definitely a problem. This show kind of half-asses its logic all the time and I think it's rubbing off on me.

At this point, I hope the parents don't find all the crystals, because people who spend that much time bickering about what their apparent sould purpose is in life as opposed to taking action with regards said soul purpose just don't deserve for their soul purpose to...be theirs. Does that make any sense?

Diana needs Holden again. I don't want to see her with Adam, or Lee, or anyone other than a nice guy who won't be possessive and/or dangerous. She has enough of that. I respect her too much to think she deserves anyone other than Holden. Of course, it would appear he's gone. However, I do hear speakings of a new male character who (literally) sails into Chance Harbour, so...we'll see.

Can I take a second to LOL at Chance Harbour and Mystic Falls? Who would live their? Dang, people, you're just asking for bad luck.

I still have my issies with this show. Cassie, as good a character as she is, and she IS the main character I guess, still needs a little bit less focus, to makeway for other caracters - namely Melissa and Adam, but mostly Adam. I love what hhis character COULD be, but, like Cassie, I want him to have a sense of humor. Both those characters could benefit from that. But Adam really needs to ditch the possesive daddy role, and quick. But I've already ranted about this.

Pizzana? Pizzana! I like that people actually eat in this show. Adds a teensy weensy dose of reality to the whole affair.

This made me think about the parent's plot line a bit more... So what do we know so far:

1. The elders stripped the parents of power for some apparent foul play during the boat tragedy.

2. Apparently, the parents were naive and got tricked by evil witch hunters who killed most of them and tried to burn Blackwell. Which would mean maybe the elders were too harsh?!

3. Something triggered Dawn and Charles to go power hungry to the point Charles killed Cassie's mother and forced Cassie to go to Chance Harbor and eventually allowed the kids to bind the circle.

4. Given the circle was a bust, the crystals seemed like the only viable option? This is very weird. Why did they want the circle to be bound if they can't even tell their children what they were supposed to do to help them get their powers back to begin with? Which leads to the question: why kill Amelia, again?!

5. Witch hunters are definitely coming back and, all things considered, it might be a good thing for the elders to reinstate the powers to everyone who might be able to use them or might need them, right? Seems reasonable enough.

6. Who on earth are these elders and why did they strip Ethan/Charles/Dawn of their powers again? I thought since 3 wasn't a circle they didn't necessarily have the necessary power to do any more mischief...

7. Would TSC writers please answer my questions?! The parents have so much they could work upon, why am I still wondering so much when we're in episode 13 already?!?!! AARRRGGHHH!

These are all awesome questions, and I'm super curious about this stuff also. Unfortunately, I'm sure the answer is that the writers threw out a couple of details hoping to fill in the gaps later, but they've already screwed it up. Like you pointed out, the parents' circle was destroyed by witch hunters, so why did the surviving members have their powers taken away? And yeah, killing Amelia just seems more and more pointless by the day. (I'm still holding out hope that she's only as dead as Blackwell.) But yeah, our frustration levels are the same. 13 episodes and THIS is where we are?

2. She better not. The parents need to just get their powers back and stop this crystal crap. But maybe she did cos she didn't jump up and start looking for Faye the second she was healed. She just sat there and stared into Queer as Folk's eyes #neveragoodidea

3. At least Melissa has scenes. They have to do SOMETHING with her. Also, apparently SPOILER ALERT Diana will be on the witch drugs next week and druggie witches is cool by me. They need to get Adam stoned pronto.

Thoughts:

1. Geez, Adam could you act a bit MORE like an angry dad instead of a BF?!?

2. Still thinking Melissa is the other Blackwell kid.

3. Sober Ethan is slightly lame. Bring back drunk Ethan who rambles about destinies and dead parents.

4. Dark magic = still completely awesome.

5. Aww, Charles seemed to really care about Dawn, too bad she's terrible. I kinda wish she had died? Maybe? Little worried he wasted all the power in that crystal.

6. More than one reference to Faye burning down the school. How much damage did she and Lee cause?

7. Bring back Jane already. Brain fixing can't be that hard. Get a consult from one of the other Elders. Even if they didn't know it was magic, they'd figure it out, or at least be better at mind mending than Jane going AWOL.

Price's Questions:

1. Eh, sure why not. Hopefully, the fallout from it will be interesting.

2. Dawn will either forget or will not care. Either way, she'll be of no help to the kids.

3. Not really. This honestly feels like a realistic teenage behavior. Think about it. Depression due to a loved one's death. People in her circle (pun intended) no longer accepting/tolerant of her depression. Turn to drugs as a means of coping. Side note => What kind of drug dealer just gives drugs away?!?! Every other TV show (where I get all my drug knowledge/street cred) shows drugs exchanged for money/sex/something else unsavory.

4. As it is the answer to everything..42.

Sending Jane away was yet another way for the show to stall... She was mentoring Cassie PLUS she knew something was up with Charles and Dawn then poof! Gone. Like, what would've been the harm of her figuring stuff out, trying to defeat Charles and Dawn, losing, regrouping, getting backup. Stuff like that? That's drama. This show instead does its best to AVOID drama. It's kind of frustrating. If Dawn doesn't remember the info about witch hunters I am going to slap my TV.

Ha ha ha! Funny recap. I enjoyed "Gonna go smell the whole dock". The episode was good and I agree with you that the best part was the last part. I found it funny when Cassie had a magic orgasm with her father's medallion at the end of the ep.

I thought Lucy was a good girl until she stabbed Dawn. Too bad she's dead. Do you think Cassie, somehow knew that Lucy was gonna die? Cassie said "She's not coming back" and then Lucy died!

Can't wait to see Diana going high next episode!! I cross my fingers every week because I want her to be the other child of Blackwell.

Now about the questions:

1. Jake and Faye? Yeah, I approve but not as much as Jake and Cassie.

2. Dawn and the witch hunters? Yes. She will remember and she will do everything to protect Faye and by extension, the circle.

3. Melissa on drugs? I like this plot

Crystal. Crystal! Crystal....Umm Crystal? LOL! Exactly how it felt like. Reminded me of the teacher "blah-blah-blahing" in Charlie Brown.

-Yes. They actually kinda work. They make sense to me.There's something to be said about the bad boy and the bad girl together.

-She'll remember but most likely her priority will still be getting the crystal from Charles. The witch hunting will be an afterthought.

-I should be. I want to be. But I'm just so bloody thrilled that she actually got screentime that I'm willing to watch high as a kite Melissa. I'd like to know more about this drug...it seemed to affect Melissa more than Faye and she's going to go nutzo. I just know it. Plus the vibes with the creepy drug dealer were just...skeevy.

- Umm they surpassed it for sure. Adam's a sensitive soul so I'd have done five, tops...fifty was overkill.

It was a solid episode. No use in making complaints and risk being redundant. I mean we did get the somewhat return of Badass Charles from the pilot...but the moment he seen Dawn crumpled up on the floor it got knocked right out of him.I like that they tried to TELL us that Adam is the "voice of reason" out of the group through Diana's speech...but they have to do a better job at showing it. He makes valid points and his concerns are legitimate and God help him he seems to be the only one with his head on straight when danger is concerned, but they layer all of his concerns and his valid points with his jealousy and leads to no one taking him seriously when they probably should. That part sucks. Because instead of Cassie and whomever heeding his advice they only think he's jealous...which he is, but I wish they dialed it back a notch. If he's going to play the role of responsible, voice of reason, realist...then he can't have his emotions overpowering it as much.If that makes any sense. I still love Ethan, whether he's drunk or sober...he's just kind of awesome for whatever reason. The psychic thing was predictable...though did they deprive the circle of it's powers? As you pointed out it'd be hard to tell either way. Cassie used her dark magic to save the day( of course) even though technically she's the reason they're constantly in danger half the time too. She's too trusting or not enough.Oh that girl. I did like how everyone and everything appeared to have fallen apart...sad to say but that's what leads to something interesting, the breaking of tenuous bonds, the stress, life wearing them down and tearing them apart. The conflict. I need Blackwell...like yesterday

I just wish that circle would become unbound! And yeah, this show needs a game-change... I really hope Blackwell lives up to our expectations. The worst thing would be if he shows up and is just another Charles. I agree that Adam is supposed to be the voice of reason, but in this episode he wasn't thinking straight at all, especially when he claimed that the circle would provide Cassie all the protection she needed. I mean, that's just crazytalk. The bigger issue is that it's possible for Adam to be a voice of reason AND likable. He can be funnier, he can be more level-headed. He can be more CURIOUS about stuff. Right now he just exists to shut everyone down and that's a drag.

He plays parent...and not the fun one. I mean look at the options for parents out there though! I'm trying to keep myself from thinking that Blackwell is like the second coming of Klaus. The best way to keep yourself from being disappointed is to have no expectations. I want the circle unbound too so they can all wreak havoc for longer than ten minutes. And I'd like for someone else to get in on the action instead of Faye. She can't be the only one dying to unleash her magical side.

1. I do not approve the Fake/Jaye hookup/potential. I currently hate Faye. However, I <3 hating her so much, I might just change my mind and start loving her back next week. Also, this definitely screws with my plans for the romantic polygon (Diana chases Adam who chases Cassie who wants to use Jake's body and then fall back in love with Adam while Diana realizes she and Jake are meant to be because they are so hottt. Plus, if anyone can turn Jake into a half decent guy, it certainly is Diana. Also, we all know Cassie's dark magic is going to need a moral compass, which we know isn't Jake, and I was hoping was going to be Adam. Okay, so Adam is not as boring as last episode, but his character still needs shaping up. Come one ppl! We are close!)

2. Dawn needs to remember so we can get this show on the road. PERIOD. Plus, I really want Dawn to go crazy on Lucy's behind. That witch-slapping is going to be so much fun!

3. I am very worried about Melissa's drug problem because it is an easy and entertaining way out for her death. Also, considering Nick was probably her written-in-the-stars-destined-soul-mate and he died, I'm guessing this is another way for them to meet up? Or maybe his ghost is going to make a special appearance and we're finally going to get a seance-intervention episode... who knows?

4. I am not sure and, apparently, I don't care. All I want is for Thomas Dekker's hottness to come back.

Yeah I would not be mad about Jake and Diana hooking up. Unfortunately Lucy's real dead now, so Dawn probably won't be giving her a witch-slapping. A Nick ghost would be pretty cool.

LOL, I totally forgot Lucy was dead... But i think Dawn has great witch-slapping potential! Specially if someone's trying to off her baby, right? Oh well, maybe we'll save that for other witch hunters?

See, I would LOVE to see Dawn set her sights on the witch hunters.

I love the team-work undercurrent to your number 1. 'Come on ppl! We are close!' Haha. I agree that Cassie needs a moral compass. I also think that it looks like Cassie and Adam grow closer in next weeks episode. And if we have more of Adam apologizing for being a controlling, theiving douche, then I'm all for it.

It's as if the teenagers on this show live in a completely different reality than the adults. They rarely intersect. If their (not dead) parents have always been this hands-off (except Melissa's aunt/guardian apparently because she take her on multiple mini vacations???) it's no wonder they're all so damn mopey all the time.

I wish Cassie could be wittier. She's likable in that she's not solely focused on her teenage angst like most teenage girls, but if she had a couple quips per episode that would only make her better.

Also, this show is on the CW. Why doesn't it have more music? Perhaps I'm just missing the music when it shows up but isn't hip music and attractive people the CW's MO?

In the promo for next week it looked as though Diana was kissing someone. I think it was Faye's faux voodoo priest non-boyfriend, but I could be wrong. And it's also possible that it was Faye who was kissing him instead of Diana. I don't know, but I'm glad some kissing is happening. Wouldn't want to forget that this show is on the CW would we?

That is an excellent point about the relationships between the parents and their teenagers, and it might be the biggest flaw of the show right now. Many of these kids have single parents and would presumably be VERY close. Keeping witchcraft a secret from their parents strikes me as an incredibly artificial story barrier. For me, the SECOND I found out I was from a multi-generational family of witches, I'd be going to my parents for guidance. It'd be one thing if, say, Diana had been forbidden by Charles from practicing and decided to go behind his back. But this show is suggesting she's never even once discussed it with him? It makes zero sense. I definitely hope this show removes that barrier ASAP.

I'm pretty sure that's Diana and Lee. The description says that Melissa gives some drugs to Diana and Diana gets all up in Lee's grill. The thing is, apparently Faye isn't happy about this, which, sure, she found him 'first' I guess, but doesn't that make Faye a hypocrite? I know Cassie rejected Jake in this episode, but I'm pretty sure Faye knew nothing about that when she went over to Jake's, and she full on embraced the dude, seemingly without caring about how it might upset Cassie, and yet Diana's supposed to feel bad for Faye when she makes out with a guy who Faye mainly just bickers with? I hope that description read wrong. There's only so much Faye can do before her character starts becoming a hypocritical mess, and I'd ratherh ave fun, spunky, I'm-my-own-woman Faye.

Yeah Diana kisses Lee in the preview. I like the idea that they all get high and drama happens. And Faye's totally a hypocrite, but there's also the fact that she and Jake used to be f-buddies, so she probably doesn't view it any differently now. But I totally agree that I'd rather have Faye be an independent character and not going back and forth between guys. I'd love to see her reject Jake... That'd definitely make her seem less weak.

Especially consisering she originally wanted to screw him over (I think both literally AND not literally?) The way I see it, she planned to break his heart, but now she's acting jealous, and while I love the character, that isn't doing anythign to justify her at all. Ah, well, we'll see. I hope there's some rejection in store for Jake. I love him, but compared to the rest, he seems to be having a relatively easy time on the show. He needs a shake up.

1. Obviously. It's completely in character for both of them and adds conflict.

2. She will remember. Also, she will tell no one with any power.

3. Yes, I am worried it will go away. I like Melissa and am glad she's getting screen time. Go drugs!

4. Depends on the number of chinese "massage therapists" hired for the gig.

Crystal! Crystal, crystal, crystal, CRYSTAL!!! crystal...Love it! Ok now to my answers:

1. yes, hookup approved

2. She'll probably forget. The crystal is in sight after all, so that will distract her. Shiny things.

3. Not really worried about Melissa's drug problem. I'm just happy she has something to do.

4. Twelve times the number of years you are. So, for Adam 204 lanterns is about right (He turned 17 right?

Cassie was certainly the HWIC in this episode! Britt Robertson continues to amaze me every time! And you are so right, next week's episode looks fun, scary, wicked, sexy, and also it's the episode right before [SPOILER ALERT] Big Blackwell finally comes to town!!! So excited for that, I can't even wait anymore.

I hadn't thought about it until you mentioned it, but you're right! If Lucy did two things in this episode is that she informed Dawn that the Witch Hunters are coming back and by that the parent's storyline and the Circle's storyline are being brought closer to collision (YES!), and also she confirmed to Cassie at the end that Blackwell is certainly alive.

Also, it looks like we got ourselves the big bag! Eben. And I have to say he's scary! You fail him, he's slitting your throat without hesitation. No ifs, ands, or buts. And he will not hesitate if you're a witch as we saw in "Witness". So I hope Cassie's right when she said to Lucy "Tell the Witch Hunters we're ready."

PS - I actually trusted Lucy myself, and Cassie did have some reason to trust her because when she met Lucy in Jake's memory it showed Lucy as friend's with Jake's mom and she even tried to get Cassie out of the boat. So, until she stabbed Dawn (which I did not see coming!), I actually was hoping she'd be good and I can like her, but nope, she's dead and evil! Lol.

I agree that this episode didn't live up to the previous episode, but it was definitely still a great episode. It did push things closer together, such as moving the relationships ahead, giving Melissa a plot line, pushing the parents closer to the Circle's storyline, and I'm just plain excited to see Cassie's dad!

Also, I can understand Jake texting Faye to meet him. First off, he did something Damon would do in TVD. Get angry, and either sleep with someone or kill 'em. Since he had a former relationship with Faye and probably knew she wouldn't reject him, he told her to meet him to let out his frustration, because he couldn't get Cassie to trust him as much as he wanted her to.

I'm eager for next week's episode, and I'm totally excited for the episode after that one! Awesome recap as always Price! :)

Yeah next week's looks great. It's amazing what they showed in the preview... I watched that promo frame by frame and it's REALLY spoilery! I'm not complaining though. I'm really excited for Blackwell's arrival mostly because I just want to see a super powerful witch for once. The Big Bad's a good addition too, especially his scars. Kind of a Freddy Krueger thing happening there. And I'm definitely eager for the parents to start using their scheming for the safety of their children. Seriously, the crystal stuff is just about driving me crazy.

I have more fun reading these little reviews than i do the show cause the pics sometime mimic exactly what I am thinking when i watch this show.

They need new people on this show seriously, need to kill off Adam and bring in his unknown brother or something cause he is freaking annoy. Also the drug girl has horrible taste in men and deserve all that she will get from this plot, also i expected the drugs to look different than a bag of freaking carpet fresh.

I want Adam's PERSONALITY killed off and replaced by something more interesting. Thomas Dekker deserves better.

Also, what is UP with the drug dealer NOT CHARGING?! I'm not kidding! It was like 3 deliveries and zero charges, plus, oh, yeah, a little bit of "watch the dosage but just keep using".... not that i would know or anything, but it seems weird. Caleb is supposed to be a bamf.

Might as well be. It's a good gimmick, though. Walk up to hot Craft chicks with a bag of coke and tell them it's devil's dust.
