David Semel will direct the first episode of Bryan Fuller's new Star Trek series.

The first episode of the much-anticipated reboot will debut on CBS in January 2017, before the show moves to its permanent home on CBS All Access, CBS' streaming service.

Semel previously directed the first episodes of Amazon's critically acclaimed drama The Man in the High Castle, which premiered last fall, and David E. Kelley's upcoming Billy Bob Thorton drama, Goliath. He also has a long history with CBS, directing the pilots of Madame Secretary, Code Black and Person of Interest.

Fuller, Alex Kurtzman, Heather Kadin, Gretchen Berg & Aaron Harberts, Rod Roddenberry and Trevor Roth will serve as executive producers of the new Star Trek series, but few other details are known at this time. More is expected to be revealed on Saturday, when Fuller moderates the Star Trek 50th anniversary panel.

Hell, he produced Beverly Hills 90210 and then Dawson's Creek, of course his next project would be Star Trek.

His IMDB is a very scattered list, I guess he's more of a producer than a director, doesn't stay directing on any show, is a bit of a hired gun. Aside from The Man in the High Castle, it doesn't look like he's done any sort of effects-heavy genre work, so either this will be a first or the show will be heavily character-driven.

If there is any justice left in the world, the amount of subscriptions they get will fall so far below their expectations that they are forced to make at available for purchase on other streaming services (or start televising it) in order to make any money it.

You had me until you said it will move to CBS streaming service. I am a heavy Star Trek fan but network's streaming services are not my cup of tea.
