The Vampire Diaries: Better Living Through Brainwashing (PHOTO RECAP)

A lot can happen in seven weeks. You could buy a house. You could write a novel. You could meet the love of your life, knock him or her up, and prepare to raise a beautiful family together. You could become the mayor and decide who lives and who dies. You could train an elephant seal to drive a car. Any of these things can be done in seven weeks, but you know what you can't do in seven weeks? Wait patiently for a seven-week Vampire Diaries hiatus to end. It's just impossible! It cannot be done. The fact that we somehow made it through that harrowing ordeal represents an astonishing mystery that I'll leave to the Stephen Hawkings and Morgan Freemans of the world to figure out. The important thing is, TVD is back! Not only that, but it's still mad good and last night's episode "The New Deal" had at least three huge moments. Let's talk it out!

We began with a rare Bonnie-centric cold open, and she was just doing what she does best: walking around looking suspicious of everything. "Does this tree wish me harm?" "What is that house up ahead that I once lived in for a few weeks?"

That's right, she was back creeping around in that decrepit house her ancestors used to haunt before they got all ticked-off at her for saving her boyfriend's life. (Relax, ancestors.)

Look what she found!

Coffins! And look what was inside one of them:

Klaus! Except he wasn't all gray and veiny, and he was holding Elena's necklace. See, this was getting weird. Very dream-like, you know?

But then Bonnie heard something or someone sneaking up behind her!

Whoops, it was only a dream. Phew, for a second there I thought there were actual stakes! But hey, anyway, had we ever seen Bonnie's bedroom before? I seriously can't remember.

Anyway, dang, Elena was doing some mad jogging out in her neighborhood.

Although, honestly, with the amount of stress and action-heroine stuff she does on the regular, did she really need more exercise? Oh, but look, a sinister-looking hoodlum was jogging after her!

Because he had a square jaw and dark features, Elena was probably confused as to which direction she should run (toward him or away from him) but luckily she high-tailed it and eventually lost him. Only to fall for the oldest vampire trick in the book: He's behind you!

Okay, so he was no Salvatore, but he was definitely bad news. Elena played it off like she didn't notice he'd just run around her at lightspeed, and she went on with her day of being bummed about Stefan still.

Oh, Bonnie. She has one nightmare after eating a bad baloney salad and now everybody has to hear about it.

Anyway, nearby at the bar, Alaric was waiting on Jeremy to show up for work, but it turned out he'd been fired from Mystic Grill? (Now who will Matt change T-shirts with?) And Alaric also had caught Jeremy plagiarizing his history paper? Wuh-oh, it seemed Jeremy was on the wrong track all of a sudden!

But those things weren't as bad as the company he'd been keeping:

Yeah I don't know how it happened so quickly, but Tyler's pretty terrible now. He's all muggy and sanctimonious and he even had the nerve to tell Jeremy he's pissed at Caroline? Yikes, them's some bad brains Tyler's got. Nobody has any right to be pissed at Caroline ever. But at least he can catch an arrow! That was pretty cool.

Anyway, the stress was starting to get to Elena, and in what would become the main recurring theme of the episode, she turned to Damon for comfort when she needed it. Seriously, at least four scenes in this episode ended with Damon cupping her face in his hands and murmuring gentle affirmations. If I was Elena I'd be like, "Look, I get it, there's something going on between us. But if you touch my face one more time I will have an acne beard by morning."

Yup, Klaus was still hanging out in town. Considering his white-hot rage regarding the theft of his family, he was actually in a pretty playful mood. Anyway, he made it clear that he'd be very willing to murder everybody if Stefan didn't return the caskets. Typical Klaus.

Later on Alaric and Elena were setting the table for dinner? Lunch? A midnight snack? It's getting to the point where I not only can't follow the main timeline at all, but I don't even know what time of day it is, ever. I think it was morning earlier at Mystic Grill? But then Bonnie walked over to the ghost house for real and chilled out with Stefan. But who sets the table for lunch? You know, I truly wouldn't mind if this show had a clock in the lower right corner like on 24. Anyway, the important thing is, Elena and Alaric were both hell-bent on confronting Jeremy, and it wasn't gonna be easy.

First off, Jeremy's not doing THAT badly. He lost a dumb job? Sure, plagiarism is pretty bad but he's better off now than when he was a mean stoner during Season 1. Anyway, the main point was that they didn't want him hanging around Tyler, whose loyalties to Klaus can't be underestimated. At that point, Jeremy went ahead and invited Tyler in to join them.

Yeah, it was weird. So then Tyler faced some tag-team questioning by Alaric and Elena about the extent of his brainwashing and he gave straight-up cultlike answers: He'd do anything for Klaus, Klaus would never tell him to do something he didn't want to do, Klaus is goodness, Klaus is the way. And then Tyler admitted he would probably commit suicide if Klaus asked him to. Cool situation, Tyler!

Meanwhile Klaus had dropped by the Salvatore mansion to shoot the breeze with Damon. Except it was more like threaten him, but you wouldn't know it from all the witty banter Damon was throwing his way.

At that point, Klaus had to remind Damon that he's an evil mastermind and could create carnage using only his pay-as-you-go cell phone.

Then Jeremy immediately hung up his phone and disappeared. Luckily two of Mystic Falls' finest detectives were on the case.

Oh no! Jeremy had been compelled to suicide himself!

That's when Alaric had no choice but to spring into action!

Poor Alaric! He got REALLY killed that time. The driver of the SUV was that one sorta-handsome hybrid from earlier. Anyway, yeah. Rude right?

As it turned out, Tyler was indeed involved. He'd been hanging out with Jeremy in order to get him to kick vervain. It's unclear how that works, seeing as he'd been wearing a vervain bracelet, but whatever. Tyler was sorta miffed at Klaus for making him almost murder his bud.

Klaus just laughed off Tyler's concerns and reminded him that human suffering is of no importance to them anymore. But you know what IS? Klaus's hot new pad! Check it out, he's having it totally redid! Looks like he'll be staying in town a while, doesn't it?

So after Alaric's run-in with a car, Elena suggested they actually try and meet Klaus's demands. Fair enough! A quick call to Bonnie alerted them to Stefan's whereabouts and they marched on over there like Mulder and Scully in bad moods.

There was a running joke about how Bonnie's witch ancestors (who are back not because of anything Bonnie did, but more just because they hate Klaus a ton) de-powered Damon's ring, so every time he walked into the house sunlight would burn him. I'm not sure why this dark, condemned house gets so much light-ray penetration, but whatever... can you imagine the SMELL that must happen when a vampire burns? I bet it's like burnt hair times a thousand. Yucky.

So Damon waited outside while Elena confronted her ex-boo about what went down when he foiled their plans to kill Klaus.

It was a pretty harsh conversation, actually! It's unclear if feigning apathy is part of Stefan's scheme or if he really truly doesn't care about Elena anymore, but one thing's for sure: He's a freelance revenge artist now. It doesn't matter how weird or destructive or counterproductive his plan is, he's dead set on ruining Klaus. In other words, Stefan is kind of awesome.

But then Damon dragged him outside and stabbed him a ton and got him to admit why he saved Klaus.

It was to save Damon's life! This seemed to piss Damon off even more, for reasons we'd learn later.

Somewhere in the woods, Jeremy confronted a slightly more humble Tyler about trying to kill him earlier.

Oh, Tyler.

Guess who came back to life after spending the day staining the couch?

Well... sort of back to life.

Then there was this weird scene that I didn't really understand where EMTs arrived to take Alaric away, but then this hybrid dude sent them away and offered to heal Alaric with his blood, but then Jeremy straight-up murdered him. With a decapitation by butcher knife and everything!

By the way, I love that this is the kind of neighborhood where you can murder another person, dismember his body, and then scrub the blood off your porch over the course of about four hours and nobody notices or objects!

So after their tussle in the front yard, Damon proposed that Stefan let him join the team, reasoning that nobody is a better schemer than Damon. Stefan agreed to let Damon help so long as Elena took no part in it. That brings their official band of outsiders to three, including Bonnie. That's when Stefan revealed that he'd been hiding the caskets via an invisibility spell.

Also, in a major squee-inducing moment (for readers of the book series, anyway) we were introduced to Dr. MEREDITH Fell.

I haven't read the books (and never will, I promise you that), but I know Meredith is one of the best-loved characters in the books and her absence from the series thus far has been a major disappointment for book fans. But here, rather than being another high school girl, she's an older physician who's clearly set up as being a love interest for Alaric. I don't know. She seemed nice enough. Weird doctor though. She literally asked Alaric whether his fast healing was due to a guardian angel or a pact with the devil. What medical school did she go to again? Vatican State? (The real answer was that Damon's blood healed Alaric, which means that Alaric's ring is kinda effed now?)

In another weird timeline thing, Elena scooted over to the Salvatore mansion and invited Klaus over so she could cut a deal with him.

The deal was that she'd give up Rebekah if he'd leave Jeremy alone. Klaus agreed!

That's when Elena informed him that Rebekah would want vengeance against Elena and Klaus offered his protection.

Elena was cold-blooded! So right then and there Klaus knew that whenever Rebekah woke up she'd be a whirling dervish of anger. So he made a quick decision.

Fair enough! But on the other hand, poor Rebekah! Wake up soon, girl!

Then came a super sad part. Finally deciding that Jeremy shouldn't be spending his teenage years beheading monstrosities on his front porch, Elena and Damon decided they needed to do something about it.

It was very sad! This was like Season 1 all over again when Damon erased Jeremy's memory of Vicki dying and also gave him a better personality? I barely remember, all I know is it worked out pretty well, and at least he stayed in town! Now he's supposed to go to Colorado and live with "family friends" and drink beer and hook up with girls and take an art class. Poor Jeremy!

That being said, I'm not sure I buy this. First of all, Jeremy would've had to have been a moron to not have gotten all vervain'd up immediately after his near-death experience. Secondly, it's been more than suggested that he's kind of a natural born vampire hunter (crossbow stuff, that time he invaded Katherine's tomb, etc.), so an ordinary teenage existence is no more possible for him than it would be for Elena. My guess is that he's just pretending to be compelled, he'll take a few episodes off, regroup, and then return with some kind of surprising agenda. Same thing happened to Tyler last season and Bonnie the season before. It's kind of a TVD tradition at this point. Come back soon, Jeremy!

After the supposed brain-scrubbing, Elena and Damon reconvened on the front porch (site of the infamous Damon-Katherine fake-out kiss) and cheered themselves up over their good intentions.

So yeah, just a great midseason premiere. Full of twists and turns and scares and laughs. Okay see you next week BYEEE!!

LOLOLOL J/K J/K!!!

All right, the episode ACTUALLY ended like this:

But you're gonna have to examine Elena's body language and reaction to gauge just how much she was feelin' it and how much she was giving it back. The main thing to take away was that Damon essentially admitted that he needs Stefan to remain a villain so that he won't feel as guilty about falling in love with his lady. Elena didn't so much respond to that statement as much as listen and accept. I'm not saying she's still holding out hope for Stefan because what a jerk! It's more just that she must be so exhausted of romantic feelings by now. Oh well, that's love triangles for ya. So yeah, it's anybody's guess as to how this will all play out.

And then Bonnie woke up AGAIN!

THE END????

QUESTIONS:

... Does Bonnie's alignment with Stefan mean she's headed down a dark pathway?

... Why did Alaric's ring not work properly?

... What will Bonnie and Stefan find in Klaus's locked casket? (And what did her dream mean, anyway?)

... What will Jeremy do when he's away? Besides push-ups.

Ok--I'm new to this party. Just finished watching S1 and S2 on Netflix and S3 on AVOD--I am obsessed with this show now! Too old to be--but still obsessed! I LOVE these photo recaps! Hilarious! This one is my absolute fav though because of the Stefan/Elena exchange...hold on, let me see if I care....still laughing!!! BUT--I LOVE Stefan and you give him such a hard time, Price. Still, looking forward to reading more of these for S4! Now off to follow Price on Twitter.

LOL, love it. You need to watch more closely though. They did make a point of Jeremy not wearing his bracelet any more, him not remembering when he took it off, and the implication being that Tyler had stolen it from him whilst pretending to be bestest buds. Aside from that - I was thinking the very same thing about the neighbourhood with that corpse. LOL. And, yes, I was expecting Damon to go through his whole compusion only for Jeremy to blink and go, "What do you guys take me for? You think I wouldn't be gobbling down vervain like it was chocolate after what just happened?" But...no. I hate when characters have to be dumb to help the plot along. But, you know, if you worried about that kind of thing with this show you'd never watch it. Which would be a real shame.

Price, I love your recaps! Ever Friday I impatiently refresh Tv.com about a hundred times!

As for the questions:

- I would love Bonnie being a little more badass. Just remember what she was like in season 1 when she went all Anti-Vampires. I really want that old Bonnie back and want that former badassnes multipled by a thousand. Maybe then she won't be as boring anymore.

- I personally believe in the theorie that the ring only had a certain amount of moko and it's been pretty much used. Alaric just got into trouble one time to often. Maybe cut back on the supernatural stuff a little, Al.

- I think the "witchmare" was a desperate try to actually include Bonnie into the storyline and remind us she's actually a witch. I think the casket will either hold the original Doppelgaenger or the original witch and either of those will probably be the clue to getting rid of Klaus. I kinda want the Klaus storyline to end and a new villain (I don't think Klaus is villaney enough), but I do not want to lose Klaus. He's grown on me. kinda.

- Jeremy will find new friends that happen to be supernatural as well and de-compulse him so he comes back. yay. Please don't deprive me of drooling over Jer every week, CW!

Btw love the Delena storyline this season. I don't know if they can really end up together, but pissing off Stefan would be reason enough for me to do anything anytime :)

This is the first review I have been able to read, and it was good. Just started watching the show in December and finally caught up as of today. Very excited to be up to date and able to join in the discussions.

- I think Bonnie's alignment with Stefan is purely witch related. The enemy of my enemy type of deal. Wouldn't mind being wrong though.

- No idea with Alaric's ring. Maybe the charge is wearing off? Bad Ju-Ju in the air? Just hope it doesn't end up killing him.

- No idea what's in the casket... but did anyone else start quoting Brad Pitt in Se7en? "Ah, what's in the box? What's in ****ing box!?!"

- I could see Jeremy meeting up with Katherine... or doing some extensive montaging to get in Van Helsing mode. I have a strong feeling we'll see him again very soon.

Finally get to watch my first NEW episode on TV today. So excited!!!

- Too hard to tell. Stefan is hard to read nowadays.

- It expired?

- Some think they'll find his secret twin or something.

- Start training with Alaric.

By the way, I think I totally read Elena's body language during and after the kiss.. Her subtle gasp at the end was as if she were to say, "Whoa, that was intense.."

Randomness:

So, we need to chat about Damon's overuse of luminizer. Seriously, this episode he was so shiny that he looked sweaty in a few scenes (Klaus in the house, sproiking his bro.)

?s

Bonnie will never be interesting. Ever.

As for the ring, still going w/ the HIT BY A CAR thing. My 1st thought was that he shouldn't come back at all, b/c cars are not supernatural

Is anyone else thinking that the girl who bound the curse will tie back to a 1000 yrs ago in season 2 when Klaus was making fun of Elijah for maybe loving Katherine and Elijah said they had loved once and bro got that constapated look on his face? I'm reaching?

Fav time line incoherance:? Damon at the Witch House/the hospital?/Elena's?/then BACK at the house? WTF?
Reply

Good point on the car. Maybe it counts because someone supernatural was driving it? The car, after all, is just the weapon - like a knife or a gun. It's the person wielding it that's the real cause of death, I guess. And why am I trying to think logic into this show....?
Reply
Flag
My friend and I have made a prediction for who that girl is and we're kinda just waiting around to see what becomes of it. But I don't really know how the curse will factor in because the viewers really don't know how the whole curse was initiated. I think when this happened in season two we were under the influence of that whole "curse of the sun and the moon" business. I don't remember how much we knew about it at the time. But I do think that person will come back up again. idk how or when or who she'll be.... but I have a feeling she MIGHT be in the casket. and honestly, I'm thinking Katherine cubed!
Reply
Flag
he came back because the driver of the car was a hybrid, i.e. a supernatural, and also, I think, because Klaus orchestrated the whole thing, and he is also supernatural. Very much so. Also, you are right, Bonnie will never be interesting. She's clearly only there for her witchy powers. If Elena and Damon found another witch who wasnt lame like Bonnie, I bet you anything they'd kill Bonnie themselves, just to put her out of her miserable existence.

Hi Price, Thank you, great review, as usual...

(please forgive my english, i'm a huge german fan of TVD and of yours recently)

1. Since charakters are devided in awesome evil and boring good, I'm glad for Bonnie getting darker and so more interesting...

2. Dont know about the ring but i believe its more complicated than it seems

3. I have the feeling in this casket is the original Petrova, the clue to kill Klaus, not mama original, this would be too simple

4. Jeremy will be back, for sure... as a vampire hunter/slayer... little hint from the screenwriters: his mothers maiden name is Sommers. ;) So, during his absence he will continue practising to handle arbaleste and butcher knife...

Maybe Bonnie aligning with Stefan will mean that she finally becomes awesome. I fully believe that Jeremy will be back. However, I did notice that his pupils dilated when Damon was compelling him. So, props to TVD's special effects team for keeping up with whatever plot twists and fake outs our little show has in store for us. I'm not sure what was up with Alaric's ring. Several other commenters on here have made mention of the fact that Gilbert rings are only supposed to protect against mystical deaths. If the ring didn't fully save him because a speeding SUV isn't mystical, fine. The problem is this is not the first non-mystical threat that Rick and his ring have encountered. I seem to remember Rick getting his neck snapped. (Unless I'm hallucinating or making up an entire plot-line to an alternate show inside my own Dreamatorium. Which might be a different problem altogether.) Call me old fashioned, but I prefer consistency from plot/salvation devices. Maybe there's some sort of witch/mystical/supernatural interference going on which would cause the ring to malfunction??

Great recap as always. Price, you make the end of the week just a little bit better. :)

Reading these recaps are almost as good as watching the show it really makes my week, laughing so much.

First I think Bonnie should head down a dark path Just sayin I don't forgive her for being mad at Jeremy I mean really he was in love with Anna & they didn't break up the girl died of course he still loved her can you be anymore heartless? OK sorry for jumping off topic.

I think that maybe Alaric's and everyone elses rings maybe only have so much mojo and therfore can only heal a finite amount of times.

I don't think it is klaus in the coffin; but on a side note I do believe that the original witches necklace may be the key to getting Klaus in the coffin since the stake doesn't work on the hybrids. (Also can't wait to see more of the original family siblings you know they will be hot.)

Jeremy will probably get pissed while he is away and think up some kind of revenge plot on Damon or maybe he will find a new girlfriend or something that turns out to be a Hybrid that Klaus sent to keep tabs on him because what is to stop Klaus or any of his Hybrid army to follow Jeremy wherever he goes.

Anyway that's how I see it, as always thanks so much for the recap can't wait until next week.

Great recap Price! Love 'I was promised nachos'- really summed up his face! Also Merdedith Fell... there was a Logan Fell in season 1 and we already know she won't be like Meredith in the books besides probably getting with Alaric! Meredith could be there to get revenge for her brother/cousin's death, on the Salvatores or even Alaric or Katherine, feels like we haven't seen in her ages ( probably due to the hiatus, stuffs up your perception of the already confusing timeline).

Thanks for the recaps! Love that IsItFridayYet is back! And loved that Stefan didn't give in to Elena's plea congrats on finally growing a pair. Elena is growing as well, making a deal with Klaus and only telling him about ratting him out to Rebekah after he had promised safety to her and Jeremy - that was such a Katherine moment. Miss Kat, hope she is secretly helping Stefan to plot.

1 That will just give Bonnie (another) identity crisis. Limit should be one per episode.

2 Maybe the magic ring was thinking: F this, it's almost Friday

3 IMO it means there's a way to kill Klaus. Somehow the original mom/witch will come back (hint: the necklace) and kick his butt. fingers crossed.

4 Jeremy will go back to smoking pot again, take an art class and start wearing a beret

"Hakuna Matata girl its all good" hahaha! This was a really great episode...wow I just get more impressed every week. Price, thanks for giving cred to that kiss!

I'm not sure if someone has already mentioned something similar, but here's my theory on Alaric's ring. It was made a long time ago...back when there were no hybrids to worry about. They are a whole new breed of supernatural beings that witches did not account for. The guy who ran him over was definitely a hybrid (since Jer cut his head off to kill him) and I think it does funny things to the way his ring works.

My theory on what's in the fourth coffin: I believe it's the original witch,... more either in witch form or vampire. It's a possibility that when Klaus killed his mother, she had Michael's blood in her for protection and she came back as a vamp. Michael never trusted Klaus so it's plausible. Because she is a witch, Bonnie could be having dreams about her casket.

I think we'll get to see Jeremy settling into his new life (I give it a few episodes). The scene will obviously open with him doing push-ups in the school gym.

P.S: WHERE WAS CAROLINE?

OH YES, Finally new TVD epi's and more importantly new re-caps !!

Wonderful job as usual.... ROFL all the way.

Just want to comment how high the level is at this moment... don't think the episodes were ever better than season 3.

Anywho... what about that kiss huh??? Wow, goose bumps all over the place. Also don't know which way it'll turn out, but I definitely like the current situation better with Elena+Damon.

As for your question:

1) Hopefully Bonnie does go evil, as she's pretty boring when she tries to be good.

2) Dunno, maybe some kind of 100 year old witch spell ??

3) IMO the dream meant that Klaus can be killed another way, that's why he was in the box. And also that the answer to "how" is also hidden in there... just my opinion.

4) Any news of him getting another acting job?? Cause I kinda assumed that is was bye bye Jer and let's go to the other chars...

finally. no rejection, no near-death looming and no doppleganger shenanigans!!!!

in answer to ur questions:

1) nah. Bonnie's a witch, and despite the witches spirits being p.o'd with her, they're still connected, and they probably think it's better to have a living witch involved than not.

2)it mite be coz it wasn't a supernatural-caused death. it mite be cz the ring's malfuntioning. mite be a lot of things.

3) mite be klaus' twin, klaus' long-lost-love. lol.

4) Jeremy will probably meet up with katherine. there's been a worrisome lack of contact between the 2 since she kidnapped him. and there wasn't a lot of their interaction shown...

I may not be 100% accurate, I mean, 7 weeks of abstinence do play havoc with your brain, but it does seem like everyone is pitching in more, right? So cool. Maybe it was the abstinence, maybe it was the cool episode, maybe it was the "Team Price" vibe, whatever it is, I just want it to keep going, guys.. please... <3!

Great recap as usual! i missed this recaps as much as i missed TVD!

What a great return !!! This show just don't know how to slow down! I have to admit that i am a huge fan of Damon (team Delena!) so i loved this episode. I don't believe that they are going to have something serious.... Elena will end up with Stefan but i don't mind if they get together for a while. Can't wait for next week to see how this falls trough.
Reply
Flag
Staff
Yeah whether or not they end up together, they might as well just hook up and have some fun. That'll snap Stefan out of his jerk-stupor.
Reply
Flag
Well, the thing for me is that Old Stefan = Booooring Stefan that i could not stand, Jerk Stefan = Awsome Stefan. And let's face it, Elena will never be with Jerk Stefan. Therefore, to have these two back together we would have to have Boring Stefan back, and that would suck. What a waste of a character!

Damon, on the other had, has survived 2 seasons of Elena-love, and is still quite awsome. Even in that kiss, he is just plain Damon, only slightly less of a sociopath than Season 1 Damon, which is also fine by me. As long as he remains cool. Let's take a look at Stefan and Elena's first kiss in comparison: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p0JFL9czZ-4

Price! I've missed both TVD and your recaps!!! Thank Somerhalder the break is over and we can all move on with our non-lives. Ok, speaking for myself here. :))) I think Bonnie will remain Bonnie... though it would be interesting to see her go all WIllow on people. As for the ring... I dunno, it may be a bit far-fetched, but could the ring have like a usage-limit? Like, no-you-can't-have-more-lives-than-cats-here's-eight-and-be-happy-'bout it. Bonnie's dream could be a prophecy of sorts, maybe that Elena's necklace is the key to getting Klaus on a LONG vacation. Ah, Jeremy... He will be missed. He might grow his hair longer again, get himself a guitar and return to preach about a peaceful way of life. Or he might meet Buffy-like creature somewhere, get in some serious training and return like a commandos with vengeance and a personalized crossbow. Maybe. :)

I think you're right about the usage limit. The last time Alaric was killed, it took him longer to revive. I think they even commented on that.

Oh right, maybe that dream literally meant that the necklace will force Klaus to sleep?
Reply

I think it belonged to Klaus' mother originally, right? And she was the one behind the "walking dead" and the one who made a deal with Vicki? And as the necklace didn't get ruined even though Bonnie intended to, it might be connected with some ancient magic that could actually be used in a ritual to bind Klaus, even if he cannot be killed. Making the magic that much stronger since it's connected with the magic of his mother, Klaus being her own flesh and blood? I might be reading way too much into it though. :)

I have a theory about Bonnies recurring dreams and why sht saw klaus in the coffin with the necklace. In the ghostworld episode, Grams had said that the necklace was providing a foothold for a witch on the other side to channel her energy in mystic falls. Is it possible that the witch she is talking about is the original witch i.e. Klaus's mother? Maybe she's the one who ends up finding a way to kill him from the other side by showing Bonnie how to do it? Theory t

1. Bonnie is not cool enough to head down a dark pathway. Not sure I'm buying the whole Stefan-gone-bad act either.

2. Ring only works when he is killed because of supernatural stuff. Now he was killed by a hybrid but in a car accident. Only semi-supernatural or something like that.

3. Like the thought of the original petrova doppelganger being in there!

4. Looking in the mirror a lot. (I would if I looked that hot)

PS. Can't wait for your secret circle recap either! I realllly love your recaps <3

In season one, John Gilbert (aka Mr Amphibian) had his neck broken and thrown off a balcony. Not very supernatural either, apart from the fact it was Damon being a BAMF ;) A hybrid was driving the car, so that would be supernatural-ish. Someone mentioned that when the ring was made, there weren't any hybrids... That could be a working theory. That, and there's a limit to how many times you can die while wearing the ring.

I'm such a Delena fan so I'm in love with the episode. Your recap is awesome, I laughed out loud at the giant snickers :)

1) She isn't doing it for Stefan, She's on the same side as the witches and thinks the coffins should be hidden. Klaus is the big bad guy and as long as she isn't siding with him, she isn't going down a dark pathway (well that's what I think)

2) Maybe it is because he was hit by a car and not by an actual supernatural being

3) I think the original Petrova doppelganger is in the locked coffin (the one used for the curse mama original put on Klaus) First I thought it would be mama original herself but she was buried and Klaus was mad at her

4) Live a normal life just like Damon compelled him to do. But he'll probably get kidnapped and dragged back to Mystic Falls so he can be used to threaten Elena with.

Oh, I hope that's not the case with Jeremy. I'm really hoping he's got something up his sleeve.

I didn't like this episode very much until I read your recap. Thumbs up for you! Anyway, it was really sad the Jeremy thing and I literally jumped up and down on the couch with THE KISS. But one thing really bug me the entire episode: it was the first time that I saw in high definition, and Damon had some really heavy makeup the entire time! What's up with that? is this a regular thing?!

Haha, HD is truly a startling thing. They all wear tons of makeup though. An actor friend of mine describes HD makeup as basically spackle applied via an airbrush.

Thank God TVD are back. Other shows are too normal and not crazy enough to watch.

I still mourn Damon who turned into a puppy with this ridiculous Delena thing. But Eric Northman was healed, so I believe that Damon has a chance as well. Meanwhile Klaus took his place as the coolest guy in MF.

Though I really missed Caroline, I should say this ammount of characters for one episode worked perfectly fine. Let's be honest: there are too many of them, too many storylines to follow, and nobody gets enough screentime.

Sad to see Jeremy leaving, but he definitely will be back, and he lost almost all my love with the whole ghost-story that led nowhere. Oh, and I hope Rebekah is never getting back; never liked her, never will. Sleep tight.

I agree about too many characters. I say the same thing about Grey's. When you have so many characters to show the storylines kind of suffer. I like Caroline (now that she's vampire caroline) but I didn't miss her all that much. I feel bad for saying that but the fact is, she's never in the loop. Her only connection the gang these days and the happenings of what's going on is through Tyler.I always hate that. Because she should know more instead of being blindsided at schooldances or what not. But because of that very fact...it honestly doesn't make sense to put her in as much. Unless they are going to use her more, have her relate to other characters besides Tyler and keep her in the loop, they don't have plausible reasons for showing her outside of the fact that she's Caroline and she's awesome.

Oh but Rebekah was so bloody awesome!I have a thing for Rebekah and Elijah, especially Elijah, they just add so much fun to the mix in different ways...but yeah, for now Rebekah can stay staked until they need her I suppose.

Aw, I like Rebekah! But you're totally right about too many characters. It's better when they concentrate on only a few at a time.

I dont think Bonnie's path is going to be dark working with Stefan. Stefan not really evil and he just wants to kill Klaus permanately by any means. I dont know what is wrong with Alaric's ring and the whoever is in the casket might know how to kill Klaus or know a ritual to kill him. The dream she's keeps having are clues she needs to put together to stop Klaus. And I think Jeremy might be gone for a while. I liking that Stefan is staying a antihero because it makes the story more interesting.

I agree about Stefan for sure. He used to bore me, but now he's such a wildcard!

Dude...so awesome to read these again! Me smiles!

1. I sure as hell hope so! If only to give Bonnie something to do to make her more awesome. I keep wanting to love her...but I don't.If I were inclined to be all shippery. I'd be down for some Stefonnie action. I think they gel well together and if anyone can make her kinda awesome Stefan can.Stefan seems to have a way with the Bennett witches.

2. Umm maybe because he exercised that thing to it's maximum limits! Alaric dies like all the time, add onto it the liver issues he might be having due to his excessive drinking, and his lack of actual sleep and dude's body just isn't up to healing itself...ring or not.

3. My guess is a special trinket/grimoire/the original witch's phone number or something that will lead to a new way of killing Klaus. Ohhh, or maybe it's the *spoiler* love interest they keep referring to. I can see him daggering some broad he had the hots for when she made him mad.

4. Jeremy's gonna regroup and come back guns and crossbows ablazing. They hardly built up the father/son vibes emanating from Alaric his newfound mentor, only to have it die down again so quickly.

The episode was awesome. Probably because I had been going through some major withdrawal. Tyler reminded me of Shawn Hunter during that horrible Boy Meets World Cult episode. It was kinda tragic.I love and hate how they made Tyler a total D-bag again. Klaus is hysterical...I kept chuckling and having flashbacks to Elijah (ELIJAH!!! I MISS YOU!) with him and Elena making these deals and exchanging Words and all that. But when he threatens people it's with such wit I can't not love him, and the way he smartened up and redeggared his Sis after finding out that she would be pissed at him, had me in stitches. I loved my non caring Ripper Stefan...he's so much cooler this way. Loved the progressing Delena stuff though yeah...the face grabbing is a bit too much. Loved Alaric putting the booze down long enough to grade a paper.

Jeremy stole the episode for me. (You know aside from the Delena stuff which is mostly due to Ian because he seems to steal every scene he's in, in general). But no doubt about it Jeremy is on the list of most improved characters since season one. But this episode he was finally the most normal realistic one of them all! He did the unthinkable by asking all those questions the rational viewers think about but quickly dismiss. He asked why they couldn't just pack up and leave Mystic Falls! Elena looked dumbstruck like it never crossed her mind! He bluntly pointed out that everyone of them won't make it out of this town alive. He made snarkies about how they're anything but normal at this point, sitting at lunch/dinners with hybrids, and werwolves, and vampires, and witches. He got fired from his job...he got an F on his paper at school. You know...all those things normal people would be experiencing if they spent everyday of their life in fear of their lives by some supernatural being or another. And then...in a moment that will be one of his finest points yet, he got reasonably agitated and hacked the hell outta the hybrid on the porch, before swaggering into the house with blood on his face. It was badass...yes, but it was so human compared to everyone else. It was like the first time somebody acted reasonably in the midst of being confronted with so much supernatural stuff. For once Jeremy actually appeared to be the most sane one of them all. And I loved him for it. No way in hell that kid's getting shipped off anywhere...he's already been exposed to craziness, his teenage life is just as tarnished as Elena's at this point, and I'm willing to bet he vervained up. I found it ironic how this was the first time he appeared to be the most strong and mature for him, and only then do they decide to treat him like an immature kid. Jeremy was my badass of the week.

ALso. I liked the introduction of Dr.Fell. But all while I was watching it I could visibly see Matt Davis' attempt to play off chemistry between his co-workers wife. I mean that's just awkward...how do those scenes work down the road? I know it comes with the job but most of the time you don't have married couples on the exact same show, let alone having them have different love interests on the show. Awkward much?.

And the ongoing joke with the witches and Damon is stupid. For starters, I don't understand why they like Stefan more than Damon when Damon was the one that kept them safe. Am I wrong on that? Because as per deal Damon for the most part stuck by his word...until he didn't. Plus...evil Ripper Stefan is allowed to stroll on through w/o a problem, but reasonably good Damon can't? Made no sense. They all had the same agenda...but then later on Stefan said Damon was allowed back in now because he's onboard with Klaus. Wasn't he onboard initially? They just seem petty...those Sons of witches. And how long are they going to do this whole...bad things always happen when Stefan attempts to save Damon thing? How's carrying that burden around...no wonder Damon can be so bitter.

I definitely agree with your Jeremy assessment. He was kind of an MVP yet they weirdly treated him like a dumb teen. That's why I'm hoping he's scheming something, it'll make him both badass AND smart. Personally, I am hoping he somehow hangs out with Katherine again and she mentors him.

About Alaric's ring. I don't know if anyone remembers this, but earlier in the season when Damon had killed Alaric, he mentioned that the ring took longer than usual to bring Alaric back to life. Now in this episode, the ring was only able to half-heal Alaric's wounds; it brought him back to life, but didn't heal the damage. So, maybe something is going on that the rings are "malfunctioning." Who knows!

However, the theory that Alaric only half-healed because while it was a Hybrid who was driving the SUV, it was still just a vehicle that hit Alaric isn't a bad reason at all.

And I definitely think there is more to Meredith than meets the eye. She could possibly become a main character on the show since she's one of the major and most favored characters in the books that have been long awaited, but in order for that to happen, her character, Melissa, on Pretty Little Liars may have to...die or leave for good.

As for Jeremy, he's definitely coming back. Just the fact that the writers didn't kill him off to get rid of him suggests he's going to come back later on. In either of two ways...

1) He actually did get compelled and wasn't on vervain, and someway along the lines will come back as a vampire remembering everything.

2) He's just playing with them, will leave town for awhile to sharpen up on his vampire hunting skills like he was probably planning on doing anyway, and will return in a matter of time just when someone needs saving.

For Bonnie, I don't think she's heading down a dark pathway - let's leave that story for Faye on The Secret Circle. :) However, I'm just glad the writers are finding a way to incorporate her into the story more other than just being the witch who comes to help in time of need. I think her dreams are really a message being delivered by the deceased witches to guide her in the direction of finding a way to kill Klaus. It makes me wonder though, if there are a hundred dead witches lingering within that house who can all use A TON LOAD of magic, why can't they just all work together and unlock that casket?

As for what is in that casket, my guess is either the remains of Esther the Original Witch or the original Petrova, Klaus' one and only true love.

I absolutely love your recaps.LOL

1.No way ,she just wants to stop having nightmares and thinks if she teamed up with Stefan her witch ancestors would leave her alone.

2.Probably because the hybrid hit him with a car and didn't break his neck or something. That's why he only came back to life but was still in a pretty bad shape.

3.It might be Klaus's mother, the original doppelganger or the casket will be empty and they wouldn't know what to make of it.

4.I don't know what he would do when he's away but I'm pretty sure he will still be ditching school and he won't take an art class,he might hook up with a live girl though.I also think he will come back as a hero saving the day, preferably carrying a big cleaver in one hand and a crossbow in the other and accompanied by Kathrine.

I hope they would wake up Elijah. He probably knows what's in the forth coffin and how to open it and he would want to destroy Klaus once and for all.

I wonder if Klaus is so pissed at Stefan because he stole his siblings or because the forth coffin contains something or someone that may kill him.I doubt it's brotherly love that makes him try so hard to get the coffins back after what he did to Rebecca.Probably all his other siblings hate his guts too.

On the Delena kiss:I thought it was a little awkward the way Damon came back to kiss her, they should've build up to it in a better way.I hope that Elena and Damon will get together but rather later than sooner. Now is not a time for making out ,it's a time to get rid of Klaus.Don't think it will be believable if Stefan and Elena get back together in the end,too much has happened between them and to them making it impossible to go back.
