The Vampire Diaries S03E21: "Before Sunset"

Are we operating by the geological timeline now? Why is time moving so quickly? It seems like Stefan was JUST eating a Tennessee floozy and Detective Katherine was JUST snooping around the 1920s in her shiny bob wig. But here we are, basically at the end of Season 3, a full 21 episodes into the Season of the Originals. It doesn't seem reasonable or right. I'm not ready to let this season go, you guys. I want to stab Season 3 with a witch-forged dagger and store it in a coffin for a thousand years just so I don't ever have to feel alone again. Seriously, I love this season so much and this week's episode, "Before Sunset" was a perfect example of why. It had everything! It had a Caroline-Rebekah team-up; Klaus busted out his best hero moves; Bonnie nibbled on some dark magic; a window was broken with a rolled-up newspaper; EVERYTHING.

But enough of my yammering, I've wasted enough time already. (Oh no, did I miss Season 4??) Let's talk about this thing.

It was the morning after Esther had arrived and spewed forth tons of unprecedented magic. Even though Alaric had been transformed into an invincible vampire A-hole, his work attendance was already much better than regular Alaric's.

Meanwhile Rebekah and Caroline had the unfortunate duty of cleaning up after the Decade Dance.

For vampires who can move at lightspeed, they sure weren't in a hurry to clean that place up.

In a really nice moment, Caroline reached out and disarmed Rebekah's 'tude with some straight-up empathy. Classic Caroline. But it was pretty hilarious when Rebekah countered with "Sorry about your teacher." It made me laugh how this show tried to make those two things seem equal. Sorry, show. I don't care how charming Matt Davis is, Alaric was still a stone-cold creep if you ask me. (Actually, don't ask me if you are a lady because I think I just committed a crime against ladies?)

Anyway, after parting ways with Caroline, Rebekah came face to face with her new nightmare:

And then look who helped save her!

This was great. Caroline and Rebekah are two of the show's best characters, so to see them join forces like this gave me chills.

Unfortunately, as it turned out, Alaric couldn't be killed by that stake. So he was officially immortal! It wasn't long before he was pulling it out of his chest and chasing after Caroline.

And then he pretty brutally killed her! OH NO. NO NO NO.

After that, he dragged her across the blacktop back toward the high school, his skin sizzling in the sun the whole time.

It was a startling sequence. The one thing this show does when it wants us to REALLY hate a character is it has that character harm Caroline. So already Alaric became the most loathsome villain the show's ever had. And the ordeal had only just begun for Caroline. (Sadface emoticon!)

So, okay. This was nuts. Apparently Elena decided to REPAINT Alaric's room only hours after he'd died? I think this just confirms a theory I've been keeping to myself for a while now: Elena has mental problems. You know how dying made Alaric slightly more brain damaged each time? I think the opposite is true for Elena: Being alive too much has made her go mental. It's understandable, she's been through a ludicrous amount of emotional trauma. On the daily basically. But can we stop pretending this is a show about a teenager caught between two dashing vampires and admit it's actually an exploration of a damaged girl on the brink of insanity? At this point Elena is about three episodes away from sleeping in a woodpile and shouting at airplanes. After whatever goes down next week, let's hope she gets some R&R;, you know? Or, you know, maybe dying a little more often might ease some of the mental pressure she's under.

Then suddenly sensitive Stefan arrived to lend a hand with whatever other manic things Elena had on her to-do list. It was pretty great how curt Jeremy was towards him.

Meanwhile at Klaus' house Rebekah was pretty insistent that they get out of town.

But Klaus didn't want to leave without his precious doppelganger blood dispenser; he still intended to create an army of young hunky hybrids so that he'd have a cool gang to protect him and also hang out with him and play Mario Kart or whatever. Rebekah seemed pretty offended by this and ended up peacing out by herself.

Shortly after that Damon showed up at Elena's house with a simply mortified looking Bonnie. It seemed her possession the night before was merely temporary and now everyone knew what had gone down. The Salvatore Bros weren't super stoked about how she became, yet again, a pawn for her witch ancestors. I'm with them: Wear a protective amulet or something, lady. Fool her once, shame on Emily. Fool her twice, shame on Bonnie times infinity blackout forever.

Fortunately it's also Bonnie's job to fix things, so it wasn't long before Damon was telling her to get on with it.

Unfortunately Bonnie did not yet have a solution. To her credit, she'd had a long night. Jamie was probably still chillin' in her bed spooning a pillow.

Meanwhile upstairs Elena got a pretty surprising phone call:

Whoops! Evil Alaric told Elena that she had to sneak off to the high school or else he'd kill Caroline. And that's why she apparently crept out the second floor window, because seriously there's only one staircase right?

Anyway: Ding dong! Guess who'd arrived to pick up his favorite lady-shaped bottle of hybrid juice?

But Jeremy sassed him right off the bat, which made Klaus look legit sad. But he perked right up again when his favorite ex-bestie came to the door.

Klaus hadn't ever been invited into Elena's house, so for the time being everyone was safe. Or at least until Klaus found a sufficiently insane way to get inside!

That's right, he busted out the front window (and broke through the plantation shutters) by throwing a ROLLED-UP NEWSPAPER! That is one Original superpower I was NOT expecting.

While everyone was battling over her honor back at home, Elena successfully snuck into the high school to find Alaric and Caroline chillin' in his classroom.

Oh man, between the pencils jammed into her hands and the vervain-soaked gag, Caroline was NOT having a good Saturday.

And so began a number of similar scenes that alternated between the severe torture of Caroline (NOOOO!!), Alaric attempting to get Elena to murder Caroline, and worse, him being super condescending to her about all the bad choices she'd made in life. Just going out on a limb here, but Elena did not seem to be enjoying herself one bit.

Meanwhile back at her house, Klaus was still brainstorming super stupid ways to terrify the house's inhabitants. And that's when he came up with what has to be the most diabolical and genius plan a villain has ever concocted.

The camera really lingered on that soccer ball and then cut back to Klaus' scheming face. Remember, this is the man who at the beginning of the season was always about ten steps ahead of everyone else. His talent for scheming was unrivaled in the entire world. What WAS he planning to do with that soccer ball, anyway?

THIS:

HE DESTROYED THE FRONT DOOR BY KICKING A SOCCER BALL AT IT REAL HARD! And he followed that up by hurling fence stakes inside the house!

Man, this sequence was incredible. It was nuts! Everybody was all ducking in the kitchen and Damon kept shouting back "You missed!" And then top top it off, Klaus returned with THESE:

LOL a propane tank and a lit newspaper! I mean, can you imagine being a neighbor or someone driving by and witnessing this? This town!

Unfortunately, before the Gilbert house was finally destroyed, Stefan received a phone call from Alaric. So that's when Stefan decided to call an impromptu truce to inform Klaus that Alaric planned to kill Elena AND Caroline unless Klaus showed up in person.

And this kicked off one of my all-time favorite storytelling twists of all time: Villains teaming up with heroes for the common good! I love it when that happens so much! So yeah, suddenly Klaus and the Salvatores were pacing the front porch brainstorming ways to save their ladies from Alaric. I guess that whole time Bonnie was upstairs showering and putting on some of Elena's makeup (who knew they used the same foundation?), but then she came down and announced she had a plan.

Bonnie's plan? To get her mother to return to Mystic Falls (within the hour) and teach her how to enact the desiccation spell that Abby had once cast upon Mikael. So yeah, then everybody's favorite, most dynamic character ever Abby showed up and informed Bonnie that the spell had some caveats.

I was getting chills already. I'm on record as not being 100% enthralled by Bonnie's abilities or plotlines, but I've always hoped that she'd turn evil somehow, at least temporarily. And this looked to be it! Fingers crossed for some dark magic action! Oh, the other thing was, in order to do the spell Bonnie would have to physically murder a human being. If you're like me you immediately wondered who ABBY killed when she desiccated Mikael, but it didn't occur to anybody to ask about that. Oh well. R.I.P. random dude somewhere.

Oh, and did you like how Damon FINALLY cleared up that whole question of why exactly vampires can enter the Salvatore house even though Elena technically owns it? As many of you had guessed, Elena's temporary death in the penultimate episode of Season 2 somehow voided the legal document she'd signed and notarized and which is probably still on the books in Mystic Falls. Honestly, this just raises even more questions: Wouldn't that same death (and Jeremy's death days later) have voided her ownership on the Gilbert house? I don't know, I didn't go to law school and I never will.

By the way, at least three main characters use these enormous phones now:

I liked that Bonnie needed to look up where her friends were even though Alaric had explicitly told them where he was. IN HIS CLASSROOM.

So obviously Jeremy was going to have to die (temporarily) and the rest of the gang would have to drink Bonnie's blood in order to be somehow linked to her. So everyone took a sip!

In Alaric's classroom— Seriously so much Caroline torture. I'm not even going to bother screengrabbing it because it was so upsetting and I don't want to ruin your day all over again. But Alaric was being a total jerk to our precious angel and the weirdo brunette who wanted to save her. In addition to attempting to convince Elena she's a failure of a human being whose parents would've been disappointed in her, he tried to make her STAKE Caroline. Fortunately Elena's shifty.

Alaric got vervain'd!

After Elena quickly freed Caroline she ran out only to find herself in the surprisingly comforting presence of Klaus!

He whispered in his velvety tone that he'd save Elena and Caroline should run home immediately.

I don't know, I loved this moment and it seemed like Caroline seemed to really appreciate his presence.

Alaric was super mad about what Elena had done, but for some reason couldn't quite finish her off.

And that's when a trio of dreamy vampires made their move!

Whoops, the Salvatores were not exactly up to the challenge. Fortunately an Original was:

Outside Bonnie was slowly stopping Jeremy's heart, which was surprisingly sad! Our poor, brave boy, just splayed out on the forest floor waiting for his demise. Seriously, this kind of disturbed me.

Unfortunately Klaus couldn't hold onto Alaric's heart for long enough and the spell couldn't be completed.

Just before Alaric finally did Klaus in, Elena stepped up with a knife to her own throat!

This wasn't the first time Elena had used potential suicide as a way to get leverage in a conflict (she also did this with Elijah during Season 2). And just like the last time, Alaric called her bluff.

And she started cutting her own throat! It was so nasty!

Elena had correctly deduced that her life was linked with Alaric's, so if she died, he died with her. So he was so alarmed/grossed out by this display that Klaus knocked him off of him, snatched up Elena and did that lightspeed vampire strut right out of there.

Unfortunately that would be the last of Klaus' heroics for today.

Now that he knew her death would bring about Alaric's, Elena would have to die (but not before donating 100% of her blood for hybrid-making purposes). This was a nice symmetry: Klaus confirmed that he was the progenitor of the Katherine/Damon/Stefan/Caroline/Abby bloodline, so his life was inextricably linked with theirs, just as Alaric and Elena were linked. Definitely raised the stakes for future battles.

This was Tyler's cue to enter and make a tough call about whether he could reveal he was no longer sired to Klaus.

He decided to keep on pretending at least just for a few more minutes.

Meanwhile, the tables just kept turning!

That's right, Alaric needed the Salvatores to go save Elena so as to prevent his own death. It's not immediately clear why he decided to sit this mission out seeing as his sole purpose in life was to kill Klaus, but whatever. Salvatores were on it!

There was a pretty amazing bit right here as Elena was having the blood drained from her: Klaus was badgering her a ton about which brother she liked better.

Earlier in the episode he'd declared himself firmly Team Stelena, but it seemed like maybe he was just flirting with Stefan. But here he was actually digging for confirmation. Oh, Klaus. Nice to know you can be the oldest living thing in the world and still be a total gossip.

So right after Klaus finally left the room, Tyler scuttled in and untied Elena. At which point OBVIOUSLY Klaus returned.

And that's when Tyler finally admitted he was no longer sired to Klaus, and even kinda teased Klaus for being a loner-loser while he was at it.

Klaus was NOT happy, so he took it out on the girl at the center of all his failed relationships.

And she hit her head pretty soundly. That's when the Salvatores bum-rushed Klaus for another round of tusslin'!

Jeremy died. R.I.P. Jeremy! But uh-oh, LOOK AT BONNIE! Holy moly! Jackpot!

And as the life drained from Klaus' increasingly desiccated face, there was this lingering gaze between him and Stefan of pure, abject heartbreak.

And it was kind of devastating!

I mean, sure, Klaus was a villain. But also the most charismatic, dynamic, interesting, charming, and complex character on the show. I know this couldn't possibly be the end of him, mostly because the prospect of watching a Klaus-free TVD is almost too horrible to imagine (ugh, with this love triangle already), but still. I was genuinely bummed. This guy knows what I'm talking about:

Outside Bonnie regained herself, Jeremy resurrected, and they immediately touched foreheads, which in some cultures means you're engaged to be married. Watch out, Jamie!

Later as they were walking back to Elena's house, did anybody else laugh at the neighbor just sort of watching them?

Seriously, I would love to just walk a mile in HIS shoes. What on earth does he think of the Gilbert family? What kinds of things does he witness on a daily basis? Now THAT's a spin-off.

Anyway, then, for some reason Elena was compelled to tell the brothers that she didn't want to have to choose either of them romantically because she was confident they'd be too devastated to carry on if she did. At least that's what she SAID. Because I think deep down she was thinking she needed to sample more of their wares if you know what I mean.

And then this was weird. Keep in mind this entire episode took place over six hours or so: Suddenly everyone was in Elena's kitchen looking all showered and festive!

Knowing full well that their #1 danger was still out there and hungry for vengeance, these monsters were so thrilled with Klaus' desiccation that they were going to get blasted when sunset was only minutes away. Honestly, these were stone cold idiots in this scene. And I'm not just bitter because my sweet baby Klaus had just been sorta-killed! Yeah, he'd caused problems, but come on, Caroline. Where was your empathy NOW? Weren't ANY of your special moments with him genuine? I'm not mad, Caroline, just disappointed. Miss U Klaus.

Anyway, Caroline had overheard Elena telling the boys that she didn't want to choose, and felt she needed to inform Elena that she definitely had to choose one of them.

What is everyone's deal? From the supporting characters to the fans, why on earth is everybody insisting that this 18-year-old has to decide ANYTHING other than which community college she'll be attending? Leave her alone, you guys! Let her get her swerve on in peace.

Yeah, I seriously didn't get this celebration. Y'all know there's still a SEASON FINALE coming, right? Get it together!

I'm not sure I understood this next part. I THINK Alaric decided he needed to murder the Anti-Vampire Council or something.

So first he decided to tell the council that both the sheriff and the mayor have monster children— To the SHOCKED murmurs of the room. Haha shut up, you buncha nobodies. I mean, did any of them really care anyway?

So yeah, big whoop. Have at 'em, Alaric.

This was a nice conversation. While driving Klaus' corpse toward the Atlantic Ocean, the boys discussed what they'd do if Elena chose one of them.

It was awkward. But they both claimed they'd honor the decision and leave town until Elena had died of old age. Fair enough. They're immortal, so who cares. Maybe the one who loses out gets dibs on the next doppelganger?

I can't stop LOL'ing at Elena's painting skills:

This reminded me that Elena is an 18-year-old HOME OWNER. Oh jeez, that place is going to be in shambles in a few months. But then again, by that time Elena will be sleeping in a shopping cart behind the Library. Because you know how I was joking before about her damaged brain? It's now TRULY damaged!

Whoops! Elena spilled that paint! Also she didn't seem to be doing too well. And this show does not mess around when it comes to head trauma: Remember Caroline in the Season 1 finale? And we all remember how THAT turned out. So yeah, what did this mean??

Guys, this was just a straight-up entertaining hour. One of this season's best. I don't 100% love the Alaric stuff, his motivations are muddled, and the circumstances of his existence are hooey. But the entertainment value was sky-high anyway. Only ONE MORE episode! That just seems plain wrong. What do you think will happen???

BYE.

QUESTIONS:

... Who will wake up Klaus and when?

... How did you feel when Alaric tortured Caroline all kinds?

... What is wrong with Elena's brain?

... Are Jeremy and Kol still Facebook friends?

I love that they were all celebrating in a kitchen that had hours earlier been DESTROYED BY KLAUS. Did they all pitch in to clean it up before Elena got home??

Also, I'm for sure team Caroline/Klaus, so he better be woken up!

The season's best? I dunno, I was kind of bored. I mean - same old, same old. Every week the same. Elena got kidnapped by someone evil. The boys rescued her. Caroline was kidnapped and tortured.... See where the sameness comes in? Oh and Bonnie made a spell which required they hold onto Klaus for...well forever, it seemed...while she chanted. Yeah, like that was ever going to work. LOL!

My prediction: Alaric is the next seasons #1 enemy!

Elena should just choose herself. She doesn't want to become a vampire, she wants to grow old and have a family, she can't have that with Stefan or Damon. I mean, she's only 18 and normally she probably wouldn't date someone with a wedding on her mind, but still. But ofc this is a teen drama and it needs a triangle...

I'm kind of hoping for Elena to get back together with Matt, I liked their dynamic in the latest episodes and it's interesting that Caroline mentioned it (I lolled when he reminded her that Elena is "spoken for" though).

No more Klaus!!!!! NOOOOOOO!!! I have no idea who will wake Klaus up, but I know someone BETTER wake him up and sooner than later. Since Rebekah's still out there, I'm hoping she turns up while the boys are still driving and takes Klaus's body.

-Wanted to KILL Alaric. H8 him!! Nobody hurts Caroline and gets away with it.

-Concussion, major. She's an idiot anyway, so this isn't going to help much.

-LOL!! I think Kol probably dropped Jeremy by now.

Was a really good episode, but Alaric not killing the boys makes him a hypocrite now too. I was cracking up when he called out the sheriff and the mayor. I also agree with you with the stupid drinking party at Elena's house. What was the point with that? The booze didn't help with her brain issues either.

Oh, and Elijah needs to come back. Maybe he'll be the one to rescue Klaus. It would be fitting if the entire Original family reunites one last time before heading off into the sunset (or sunrise...).

1) I am guessing Rebekkah, cos she is the most attached to him. Probably next episode or during the first few episodes of season 4.

2) So annoyed! He was a first rate jerk! Some one needs to torture him.

You are right the quickest way to hate someone is if they torture Caroline.

3) EVERYTHING! Come on having Isobel and John as biological parents could explain the brain damage. Also can someone please explain after having so much blood drained from her, how can she walk?

4) Yup! JEremy probably has no one on his friend list and would not be eager to delete Kol off it. Also he can update everyone to Kol's whereabouts and doings through that. lol.

the logical explanation to what happened to Elena is that she had lost a lot of blood then she got back home and started doing shots, I mean alcohol after loosing a lot of blood can't be good for you and now she passed out next to the spilled paint inhaling chemical fumes, so if she didn't have brain damage already she definitely will now

Elena's house at the end magically came back to its normal state considering that just moments before, Klaus basically damaged the house windows and the main door. Yet the main door appeared perfectly intact at the end and the interior looked perfectly clean.

That's what happens when you have a witch, a vampire and a hybrid as friends! Hey, that could be a spin-off. Oh wait, no, Being Human already did that.

Another thing, if Alaric is an orginal vampire hunter just like Mikael is he gonna drink from vampires not humans?? And what was the point of Abby dessicating Mikael in the first place if his number one mission was to kill all his orginal vampire children, everyone wouldn't have had all these problems anymore all the cast would just have normal teenage lives!! (Ok if that was the case I realise there wouldn't be a show lol) and even though it took Mikael 1000 years and he hasn't had a chance to kill at least one of his children yet I think dessicating him was certainly not a good idea

So if the originals were tethered to the white oak tree to make them immortal as well as it could bring them their deaths and alaric wasn't tethered from the tree (I think we can prove this from the time when caroline and rebbekah stabbed alaric with the white oak dagger he didn't die) but he was tethered to elena instead, doesn't that make alaric not immortal?? I'm guessing that's what bonnie meant about no one can be a true immortal and there's always a loop hole blah blah...

What are we all gonna do about our TVD withdrawals during the summer!? Price, any plans to keep us entertained/occupied? I got a few shows but I mean three long months without TVD is a bit a much. And with virtually no good movies coming out much less in the summertime, we're gonna be pretty on-edge waiting.. haha

The year is vampire-full. When TVD ends, True Blood starts. When TB ends, TVD starts again.

Awesome recap!

Loved the episode, highly entertaining with a B.A. soundtrack.

1.) I would love it if Caroline, Stefan, Elijah, or Katherine woke Klaus up... and hopefully soon? I could bare waiting until the midseason cliffhanger of season 4 for him... but that seems like a ridiculously long time.

2. BAD. I felt real bad. And not just like in a sympathetic way, like physically just bad. NO MORE CAROLINE TORTURE

3. Ahahahah what's wrong with Elena's brain? Trauma. Of every imaginable kind (physical, emotional, etc).

4. They are defs still facebook friends. Jeremy would never unfriend anybody. And Kol probably leaves fun comments.

Wake me when Katherine shows up.

What kind of plan is tossing Klaus out to sea? Dudes, if you want to hide something, yes, you put it somewhere no one else can find it, but YOU are supposed to be able to still go check on it. Get it? I believe there's a crypt somewhere nearby that's vacant, right? Abby has the key. Check it out.

... Who will wake up Klaus and when? Stefan because he realized that he miss the bromance with Klaus so so much. It will happend in the final episode so viewers will look forward for season 4

... How did you feel when Alaric tortured Caroline all kinds? baaaaad. (but it was a cool scene when he dragged her back to school lol). i am just pissed that writers make Caroline immediately cool and happy later thar day after she was nearly killed. she is not as psycho as elena so dont start making her like elena 2.

... What is wrong with Elena's brain? it was damaged since season 1, episode 1 after the car crush. and it wont be better. damn it, bring katherine back :(

... Are Jeremy and Kol still Facebook friends? hahahah sure they are :D

awful awful awful... Where is Katherine already!!! this characters are just lost. KAtherine makes better plans... the rest of the gang are just walking around, blabbering but not using their brains... Awful season... There is one thing good on this epi though... The rock and Roll music when Klaus was throwing things at Elena's house... that was pretty cool, which only lasted for like two seconds... give us more of that...

I loved it too, also liked the rock and roll music when Alaric was dragging Caroline back in and burning. Twas pretty BA.

Ric dragging Caroline was Reno (see above post). Klaus's tantrum (which was AWESOME) was "Start to Run" by Middle Class Rut. There seems to be some dispute on youtube as to which version is the correct one. Far as I can tell, I *think* it's this one. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3aQxmE49pbE&feature=r%C2%ADelated

What am I to do w/o your TVD/TSC recaps this summer season?! I'll miss it just as much as I'll miss the show *sighs*.

I'll place my bets that Elijah will awaken Klaus. He's been missing ever since the 1st attempt on their lives from Esther so I think he has at least one more play in his play book.

I couldn't bear it! Alaric torturing Caroline? Seriously? *sighs* Glad she escaped & glad to see that touching moment she shared w/ Klaus when he begged her to go home.

I don't know where to begin w/ Elena's brain.

I do believe Col, and the rest of the Originals will enter the picture in the season finale. Esther's not dead yet & I think they're the only ones that can really get rid of her.

Can't wait till this Thurs!

Two more things:

1. HowTH did I not see the promo before right now? Or was I so tired I forgot I watched it? ELIJAH!ELIJAH!ELIJAH!ELIJAH!!! Pretty sure i would have remembered that.....

2. Also, who's ready for summer? Don't want TVD/TSC to end, but, damn, fangirling is HARD WORK y'all.

I think it was perfect. He had to go... he couldn't be around forever after everything he did. It's not good for the story. I don't think they'll free him... it wouldn't be ok for the story and it would be kind of disrespectful for the audience. That story must end... what else can happen... he leaves with Elena o she dies... so.

And the finale seems to go and do some other stuff with the flashback pre-Elena's accident and set the table for next season.

And for Elena's issue I don't think she could become a vampire... the exec producer said a while ago that that wouldn't be good for the story itself on TV (books are different).

-Either Stefan, Katherine or Elena. Probably Elena.

-Hating him.

-What isn't? Seriously, whatever is medically wrong will get solved in the first two episodes of the next season. Anything else being wrong will remain unsolved. Always and forever.

-Yup.

I was not expecting any of that.

Klaus gone before a season finale? No way Jose!

I don't know who would wake him up, all his hybrids have dissappeared, he turned his back on Rebeka. Hmmm maybe Bonnie :O! That would be interesting. Caroline has been very into adjusting her moral compass over the past two seasons so it won't be her. I pretty much believe that she's not going to 'go there' till she's about 30. That seems to be a respectable amount of time for an ordinary person to wait before jumping a murderer of your friends bones. Then again this is Mystic Falls and Elena didn't wait that long at all to jump Damon; who tried to kill her brother.

I think Caroline being tortured has become so repetetive on this show; first Damon, then her dad now her teacher; that I am immune to it. However when Alaric threw her confession about having liking killed someone in her face, that resonated, I mean what a cheap shot?! And what a hypocrite!!! He went round murdering anyone and everyone. Pr**k!

Elena's brain I don't know; the promo for the next episode first made me think there's nothing wrong with it, but now I just realised it's an attempt to make her a vampire; which is a good thing in the sense that now Jeremy won't take to it very well, also she can't get all judgey at Stefan for liking human blood. But it takes away from the show completely; I really don't want her to be a vampire; her friendship group works well as it is; Human, Vampire, Witch. + Original if today's awesome blonde bonding moments were anything to go by. I think Rebeka should definitely be around next season.

I know a lot of people want Elena to pick Damon, but I don't. Elena makes Damon into uniteresting; you'd think that would be near impossible, but she's just special enough to be able to do it. Damon has so many other prospects; like Meredith in the last episode I could definitely see that. Damon + Bonnie = eventual possibilty. I really don't like this whole dead witch council that are in charge of Bonnie's magic; they're dead for flip's sake!!! I hope she takes this dark magic route and runs wild with it. Damon + Rebeka = Need I say more?

If Elena stays with Stefan they can be boring together. I used to like Stefan, but he's only interesting with Klaus and occasionally Damon. Whenever someone bashes his vampireness(ahem Jeremy + Elena) he just droops and pouts, like have a little pride!!! I know the writers are in love with Somerhalder but seriously put SOME effort into making Stefan likeable again, it's like even they're Team Delena and they won't let us forget it; it's embarrassing to watch really.

The drinking thing was definitely inappropriate; I think they wanted us to feel that though; even with damon egging stefan on to say we won!! before the season has ended; we know it's not happening. They just wanted to remind us: teenager's = stupid: don't forget it.

Kol= he's cute but who cares.

Now the mystic fall lynch mob: very interesting. it's one of the reasons that made this show interesting in the first season when there was little else.

Guys, is it only me who noticed that they have chosen that episode to explain why any vampire can enter the Salvatore's house again? And they explained it to ABBY!!! WTF?! Nobody cares about her. And then, all this beautiful speech where Elena explaines how she has to die in order for Evilaric to die also! Maybe that's what they're going to do, kill her by stopping her heart like in Jeremy's case, and then bring her back. Well, if they do that I hope they will screw sth and she comes back as a vampire. That would be fun to watch.

And the answers:

1. Hopefully Caroline, when Elena is a vampire and he doesn't need her anymore; one day Tylor may choose some other werewolf/hybrid to make puppies with as Oz did in Buffy as far as I remember:)

2. Why did he do that anyway? To make Elena come to him? And then to make the others come to him because he had Elena? Clearly he couldn''t be so stupid to think that Elena will kill Caroline to free her form the pain. I didn't get that part. Althought, it would be interesting to see how he calls Klaus that he has his love interst? Wonder if Klaus would risk for her?

3. Aktually this time her brain is normal, she reacted as any other human would after losing blood, hitting head, drinking tequila and hanging around supernaturals all the time.

4. I've got a feeling that theirs is a one in the lifetime relationship.

NOOOOOOOO! Not Klaus! He seriously is the best thing about this show. He's gonna have to come back next episode, or next season. No other villain will be as great as Klaus. I'm hoping Caroline will wake him, when she decides she's had enough of Mystic Falls, the most effed up town in the world, and would like Klaus to take her away to see the world and treat her like the princess she is.

I am incredibly mad at Alaric for toturing Caroline. That shit is just not on. He needs to die. He is the worst now, he has overtaken Elena at being the worst. Grrr.

Pfft, Elena's brain. You know, she did almost drown, back before season 1 even started. Could it be possible that she suffered some brain damage back then, and since then is actually slightly mentally retarded? It might explain how everything she does is just terrible. I wonder if she'll become a vampire now, like in the books. And I still really want Tatia to show up. She could be the coolest thing ever.

Haha, like Jeremy has any friends of his own. He even has to date his sisters friends!! All his own friends are dead. (Anna and Vicky). Poor Jeremy.

I'm concerned.... They want Klaus to remain "dessicated" but not dead, because then all the good vamps will die. The ocean does not seem like a safe storage place to me. What if he gets eaten by something? And also... they would not be able to find him to make SURE he was still dessicated. He can basically come back to life whenever and no one will know. That is NOT a good plan, Salvatores.

Bonnie reminded of Evil Willow on Buffy! It would be awesome to see her being interesting at least for a few episodes.

I don't get it, i thought Tyler was going to die if Klaus died!? Is that not gonna happend because he broke his sire-band with Klaus, seems unlikely to me.

Tyler didnt die because klaus is't dead. He is in the same state that michael was.

Sharks will wake Klaus. They really need to bring it next week, cause so far the last half of this season has not held up to the previous seasons (aka what has happened "previously on TVD"). I'm hoping for a big finish #teamelenadieswithalaric

1. Vampire Elena because she's a dingbat.

2. Over it. They've kind of tortured her too much at this point.

3. What is right with Elena's brain?

4. Jeremy and Kol still hook up at a B&B in the next county.

Elena does truly make questionable choices. Caroline is probably one, if not the most physically tortured character on the show. And to the third response, I say I second that opinion. Lastly, to the fourth response, I can actually see that happening though something about having breakfast in bed disturbs me, that's why I eat at at the kitchen.

I just made a TV.com account specifically to comment on this picture re-cap because the following was just THAT tempting: who fixed the door? That door was crazy broken, was it not? And then magically fixed. I waited for this re-cap to see if you would notice, Price, or if I was just nit-picking at Elena's House of Horrors :-).

P.S. You probably get that you are incredible and your picture re-caps are the empitome of hilarity, so I am just going to go the subtle way and say that you are the superstar captain of happiness for the universe, okay? Thank you for existing!

I'm curious, Alaric was clearly allowed into the GIlbert house when he was human. Now that he's a vampire does he need to be re-invited in?

Also, fair enough they were celebrating, Evil Alaric is out there, but it would be silly for him to go after any of them - why bother when he should just kill the Original that sired them so that they would all die at once? They are probably not going to be personally hunted down by him.
Reply
Flag
OMG does vampire Alaric live at school since he can't enter his appartment? Yeah, Alaric died but when Logan (Jenna's ex-boyfriend) died, he couldn't enter his own apartment.
Reply
Flag
I'm not so sure that the writers will have thought this through, but I guess it depends on wether-or-not the appartment was rented. If Alaric owned his appartment that will mean that now no-one owns the property so he'll be able to enter?
Reply
Flag
"I'm not so sure that the writers will have thought this through"

This. Pretty much.
Reply
Flag
I don't see how it is an issue. There is no living resident of his apartment and legally he never died, so unless he stopped paying rent while he was living at casa-de-jailbait he's good.
Flag
But they probably are. This show ain't big on the logic.
Reply
Flag
True, it's possible that they might say Esther did something special on him so that he doesn't need to be invited but then I question why did he burn in the Sun the last episode?

Hmm... Perhaps the vampires need special super effective sunscreen, something along the lines of SPF 50000.
Reply
Flag
Also, whatever happened to that necklace they tried to destroy in Ghost Town? Is that still significant or has it been lost by the wayside?

Great recaps! Always awesome.
Reply
Flag
It will become significant when we'll all have forgotten about its existance...
Reply
Flag
Okay, totally random, but here's something I noticed: When the Originals were created, Esther used the White Oak Tree (a symbol of eternity and all that) to give the newly minted vampires eternal life. But when Esther made Alaric into a vampire, the white oak tree had no part in it. Instead, she links Alaric's life to Elena's, who is a mortal. So the white oak stake wouldn't affect Alaric.
Reply
Flag
Didn't she use the last white oak stake in the ritual she performed with Alaric and elena?
Reply
Flag
Yes. I believe Price called it "Robostake" or something to that effect.
Reply
Flag
Good point. I feel like by this logic then a regular stake with Elena's blood on it (to mirror the regular stakes with white oak ash on them) should be able to put him to sleep like Klaus did with his siblings.

But then, when has this show's logic ever been consistent?
Reply
Flag
I wonder if the White Oak Saplings had more saplings, that'd be a good twist, very probable as well.

1) Caroline and I hope soon I love Klaus!

2) I hate seeing Caroline in pain I hope they make him suffer! And that bitch Rebekah I loved it when they worked together against Alaric, how could she not help her!!!! It was so great them having a moment, then Caroline saving her, working together, and then she just ruined it by not helping her!

3) I really hope there is not a supernatural reason for it and it's just so simple as her loosing tons of blood, hitting her head and then adding alcohol to it all.

4) Couldn't care less, hate Kol worst Original in my opinion hope he dies!

As always love your recaps!! Hilarious!!!

It'd be funny if Caroline wakes Klaus up with a kiss (I'm into Snow White at the moment).

On another note, I like Kol. Kol is entirely awesome though I do get angry at him (we all have our moments, we all can't be as likable as Caroline Forbes though I wish I was)
Reply

1) Honestly...always hated Klaus, glad he's finally gone, hope he never comes back.

2) Why is it always Caroline? And I'm mad Rebekah just stood there and watched when she went out of her way to help her.

3) Umm...maybe because on top of nearly slitting her own throat AND having most her blood drained AND hitting her head AND drinking alcohol a few minutes later she walked in a room full of paint fumes and started painting.

4) ...

P.S. That Klaus trying to burn the house down thing seemed like a rip-off from that Collin Farrell movie Fright Night.

Klaus is one of the coolest villains ever. and i think the greatest testament to that is the way he makes a lot of ppl hate him. and julie plec has stated previously that they love torturing caroline coz candice accola plays it so well.

Okay, so this episode was awesome. Caroline is the bomb, and sure she didn't take AlarDick like I wanted, but Price is right, Kill Caroline, and we get to hating. But it was a great entrance for AlarDick and set up the fantastic chain of Evil-Good work togethers.

-Caroline. I just feel it.

-I wanted to hurt AlarDick. Nobody touches Caroline!!! She's my favourite!!!! That said, his torturing was one of the more creative we've seen.

-I think every time Jeremy reanimates, it steals brain cells from his nearest living relative. So Elena must be down to about 12 by now.

-Kol's Jeremy's paint connection. He got the ugly colour for the room, and I'm sure he'll show up with the requisite paint removal stuff for next episode.

Cannot wait for the finale. Love this show.

Thoughts:

1. NOW(!?!) we see Ric/Evilaric in his classroom. That's hilarious.

2. Klaus' little "I want in the house" tantrum might be the best thing ever.

3. If Evilaric and Elena are "tied" together, just kill them both, right now, everyone wins.

4. Was it bad that I was rooting for Evilaric when he was fighting Elena in the school? No?

5. How funny were Caroline and Klaus, especially Klaus, getting all up in Elena's boyfriend situation. Vampires, just like tween girls at heart.

6. Tyler finally grew a pair. Good job wolf-boy.

7. What's with Elena's head injury? It's the CW, so there's got to be a reason that we saw a close up, semi slo-mo shot of her smacking her head on the step. (It's the CW, would they really pull a she's still in the car wreck w/ Mom + Dad and is imagining all of this? I don't put anything past the CW. Sorta like a TVD version of "Normal Again.")

8. LOL At the closing shot of the kids drinking. (AGAIN?! With the judgment, Elena? Get over it.)

9. There's no way that Klaus is their sire, nice way to manipulate everyone, though.

10. Love Damon trying to explain the whole Elena-deed-death-Salvatore-house cluster. It's like the TVD writers heard our collective complaints. Still didn't completely answer the question. (Good point Price, about the Gilbert house.)

11. Kinda hoping Evilaric kills the entire founders' council. We get our bloody massacre, none of the important characters are in jeopardy, everyone wins.

12. Not enough Katherine, Elijah, Rose, or Kol (What? He's hilarious. Stop judging me.)

13. Right amount of Esther, Liz, and Carol.

14. Too much Abbey. Seriously, why was she even there? That fancy pants tracker phone couldn't send text messages?!?!? "nd help w spell" "balance of power" "???" "kill ppl, nbd" Seee?!?!? No Abbey necessary! Might have even made the phone product placement better.

Price's Questions:

1. Katherine? Rose? Rebekkah? Whomever is most interesting/unexpected? (In that case I should probably guess Evialaric.)

2. Not good. Let's not talk about it.

3. So many things, Price, so many things.

4. What's this "Facebook?" Can he Bing it?

2. No way a grown millenia old vamp should be able to pull off such a kiddy tantrum like that...but he did. Yes he did. How adorable is Klaus when he's throwing a hissy fit?!LOL!

4. No. I kind of did it too. Then I had to remind myself that she's the protagonist or whatever and that I shouldn't be rooting for such things.

11. I didn't even know they were still alive. Those council members suck. No pun intended.

1. Alaric got nominated for Teacher of the Year. I don't know what you're talking about.

2. That was my favourite moment of the episode. By far.

3. Everyone wins. You are not wrong.

8. This show should win teen behaviour awards. Truly.

9. I agree. Klaus is not the sire.

10. I think it does. Elena and Jeremy keep coming back to live there even after they've died again and again. Plus the house is left in their name. After Elena died she never came back to "live" in that house. Or so that's how I call it.

11. Kill the founder's council.

12. YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

13. Yes.

Also, the phone thing, right? GPS isn't something that happened 3 weeks ago. Hilarious. Witch-Phone app.

NO ONE SHOULD EVER WAKE UP KLAUS

RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGE AGAINST ALARIC TORTURING CAROLINE

What's wrong with Elena's brain? She lost half of her blood and hit her head super hard on the fireplace. That's what. Seriously, they better not put any supernatural bullshit on that.

Jeremy and Kol are friends 4ever! And they need to shirtless hug.

Lol at "hunky hybrids" and Mario Cart. I was sad to see Klaus go (not die technically). Btw Joseph Morgan has the most charming smile ever.

1. Klaus will be waken by ... Alcoholaric. Evilaric? A(-hole)laric? Why? No idea, nowadays I try not to think too much, just enjoy the show. Maybe because he is not dead, so Alardick needs to kill him properly (I never thought I would ever use those words in the same sentence. Well, TVD is insane). Evilaric is awsome. Like when he casually strolled in the sunlight, nevermind the third degree burn.

2. Poor Caroline. But she is a strong girl, and she will be fine. But it isn't always her being tortured? Remeber the dog collar on Damon? Haha dog, still wondering about Jeremy's (& Kol's) golden retriever.

3. Elena's brain is still haunted by death etc.. I'm surprised she even gets out of bed. And stop asking her to chose. She's 18, she deserves to have some fun. The best right now would be to be with neither of them, and just have som quality time with her bro before Alaric tears the town (& people) apart.

4. Aw Keremy. Hope they still are friends. Kol needs to understand humans, and Jeremy needs friends. Period. Loved the way Jeremy told Stefan off. They needed a drama free day (good luck, this is Mystic Falls.)

Notes: Ok, some people think that this season isn't as good as the second, but I disagree. It's awsome (as was season 2). Season 2 was a bit uneven, with some really good episodes (hello Elijah) and some slow ones. This season is intense, and insane (hello Klaus. RIP Klaus). But now, let's discuss the biggest questionmark in this episode: Klefan. Even if we fangirls ship every bromance/male relationship on this show, (for ex. Dalaric, Delijah, Meremy, Keremy and MANY more) they probably only exist in our imagination. But this one! The long looks in the death scene, not only from Klaus to Stefan, but also the other way around. It isn't just a illusion, right? Riiight? Because they [writers] should know by now that every glance makes us [stalker fans] look between the lines. And Klaus even referred to Stefan as a bedfriend or something. I guess Klaus, as a hybrid, "swings both ways". Hahah.

I was never a Klaus and Stefan shipper but as we learned and seen more of Klaus and how he interacts with Stefan and yes those longing stares I just know in my bones that something jumped off back in the day. LOL! It isn't just that Joseph Morgan and his charm can create sexual chemistry with anyone and anything either...it seems like a legitimate fixation on a past lover.
Reply
Flag
Exactly. He never even spoke two words to Damon. Ney, something happened in the 20's. Klaus compelled Stefan to forget, not only him and Rebekah being in Chicago. Stefan didn't even know who Klaus was (or Rebekah). Sibling rivalry perhaps?
Reply
Flag
Well actually klaus did spoke with damon...there was that scene in the salvatore house when stefan stole klaus family and then klaus "visited" damon and they really had a nice chat...i really liked that scene...these 2 characters have a sense of irony that is great...
Reply
Flag
I forgot about that. but they never had that sort of connection as Klaus and Stefan. And, think about it, Stefan never had that sort of connection with Elijah as his brother. I see a pattern. :)

haha the klauses attack at the gilbert house was so awesome, and the music in the background, haha!

BTW I wonder for how long did jeremy have to lie on the ground? seemed almost as if no time had passed 'cos he was in the same possition as in the first frames in the woods.

Only me whos getting tired of elanas I'm-so-scared-breathing?

I was shocked to see actual books in that first scene. Shocked, I tell you! And Klaus throwing a newspaper and breaking part of the window? Pu-lease. Elijah threw PEDDLES and COINS and broke a WHOLE DAMN WINDOW. So, Elijah, as always, wins this round. Although I did chuckle at the Klaus/Damon fight.

Poor Jeremy, always getting killed. I hope he and Kol are still Facebook friends (btw, we still missed out on Jeremy actually having friends/boyfriend)

Ok I have to admit, even though I (kinda sorta) hate Klaus, his "death" scene was sad. He is an awesome bad guy. I didn't believe him though when he said that Damon, etc are part of his bloodline.
