The Vampire Diaries' Nina Dobrev Is Headed to The Originals, But Not as Elena

Nina Dobrev has already played three different characters on The Vampire Diaries, and now she'll play yet another on the show's popular spin-off The Originals, TV.com has confirmed.

The writers are finally going to pay off a storyline that was first introduced in The Vampire Diaries' third season. If you can remember back that far (and kudos to you if you do, because a hell of a lot has happened since then, and I need a color-coded flowchart to keep it all straight), you may recall the name Tatia from a conversation between the Mikaelson brothers.

Tatia was the woman whom Klaus and Elijah both loved (hmm, where have I heard that before?), but she was killed by their mother, the witch Esther, to prevent Klaus from becoming a hybrid. She's the original doppelgänger, and apparently it's finally time to meet her.

The character will appear opposite both brothers via flashbacks in The Originals' fifth episode, which is slated to air Monday, November 3.

Are you excited to meet Tatia or are you annoyed that there's yet another doppelgänger?

Silas and Amara were way before the originals anyway. Nothing is original, there will probably be a story before silas as well, caveman originals. primordial soup originals.

Ehh. I'm so relieved she's not gonna be Elena, I don't mind. Kinda like thinking about getting your head slammed into a wall so you don't complain about a headache.

Not a good pic up there, though, at least not for her.

I am not watching crap adaptations based around Supernatural/Horror anymore without Love/Marriages upon to them...

I am stick and tried of them always creating/building up profile, between characters/storylines using love thru out the whole entire series to tell their action bidding... And not actually using love fully successful with Boyfriend/Girlfriend and Husband/Wife at all... It sucks like crap it's always the waiting of Last Season/Endgame, to actually see the upon love appears back for the leads...

3x13 - Bringing out The Dead. Elijah/Klaus talk about her while eating dinner with Stefan/Damon to basically point out that the Salvatores are repeating their history with Katherine & Elena.

People crying about love triangles need to chill the heck out. It's not a rehash, it's already been established & it's only a flashback for one episode. Plus, it's super interesting as part of the show's mythology, it was Tatia's blood that was used to turn them. I want to see a human Klaus in love, it'll be sweet & different.

Tatia is relevant to The Originals, to the lead characters & their history. As of now, Caroline & Stefan have zero relevance in NOLA & the TO universe so whining about them being better for the show is silly.

Respectively disagree. Nina Dobrev is brilliant - the character of Elena Gilbert however should be chopped into a zillion pieces and scattered across the globe never to been seen or heard from again.

I think it's because she was given more than one role, so people just automatically think that means talent. Like when they give a pretty lady an ugly mask so she can get Oscars.
Dobrev is so-so as Elena. As Katherine, she is Elena with curly hair and more lip movement. Katherine seems SUPAR INTERESTING because in comparison Elena is such a drag. But Katherine is like... whatever. Bleh.
As for the other one, She played the third roll for about 10 minutes. Pretty hard to give her piles of credit for that. Sorry, Just MO.

Yip, took me a while to recognize her talent. It was overshadowed by the awful character of Elena. But then came Katherine, and even to a lesser degree of Amara. It honestly felt like there were three different actors playing those three roles - and that's when I came to respect her as a actress. Obviously this is personal preference, you and many others i'm sure will feel differently to me.

I think they needed to do this back in Season 3 when it was relevant and people were interested. I think doing it now after the Silas/Amara stuff isn't really necessary.

Very excited to finally see Tatia! Amara was of course the first 'Petrova' doppelganger, but there was no way Esther or anyone else could have known that since the travelers kept her existence a secret. An alternative way of looking at it is that since Amara was the progenitor of the line, Tatia technically was the first doppelganger or copy of Amara.

There had to be doppelgangers before her though. Amara was 2000 years old and Tatia was born in the 10th century. The doppelgangers are not born 1000 years apart, I think it's probably more like every centruy judging by Stefan/Tom.

Don't even try to fix TVD'S plot holes. There are way too many and even Julie Plec doesn't know how to fix them at this point.

The Petrova doppelganger storyline was actually one of TVD's best, interesting mythology. It started to burn when Stefan was revealed as Silas' doppelganger. After that, they had the universe as team doppelgangers so it gave birth to Katherine's obsession for Stefan, Damon's insecurities, Elena's f*ck universe mantra, the Traveller's blood bucket and the sick Silas-Amara-Qetsiyah triangle.
But I think people are overreacting for crying out that it has been overused and should not be done on The Originals. They need to show how the Mikaelsons loved her, and how their mother killed their girl to save them and turn them into vampires which they very much enjoy. Having both parents back, we cannot expect not to see rekindling of century-old hatred.

I stopped watching after Rebekah left... Not because I was mad or anything, I just had a lot of other shows on. I finished last season of TVD, but I think I'm going to be done with it.

How was the rest of The Originals? Should I catch up and keep watching?

Nope. None of the spoilers they put out are at all interesting aside from maybe some flashback stuff with Mikael/Esther - it's generally the same stuff we had last season where all Hayley's probably could be solved if she left town and went to live with her daughter.

There were pictures today of Claire on set with a baby (who she had taken to the playground and was pushing on a swing) so I guess they will show what's up with Rebekah and the baby every so often.

Yes you should finish the end of S1 of TO, it's pretty awesome, and Beks does make a brief appearance.. I was wondering how it was gunna go when Claire left the show but the show got SO much better towards the end. Not at all cuz she left, just faster paced and more intriguing plot developments.

As long as she isn't playing Elena I have no problem with Nina appearing on The Originals, and if its only one flashback episode then its ok, the last thing the Originals needs is a couple of brothers in a another unbearable love triangle with a doppelgänger, we had enough of that crap already.

One of the reasons that I prefer The Originals to Vampire Diaries is a distinct lack of Elena. But if this is just a one-off flashback and Tatia has far more in common with Katherine than Elena, that could be good.

@othsmallsuplost considering that in season 3 it was established that the doppelganger existed until Klaus' curse were to be broken, so that he couldn't create hybrids. But that's not the case now, since Amara was not dead, Elena wasn't going to be the last doppelganger so Klaus could be less obsessed with her blood.
How could anyone think that Esther didn't know Tatia's blood was a powerful magical element? The only reasonable plothole filler is that she knew and made up that story so that Klaus would have only thought of being alone forever?

Ummm really.... I would rather have Caroline, Stefan, hell Damon than Elena. Stefan and Caroline could go hang out with Klaus, all become best friends it will be great. As for the Tatia thing, she wasn't the original doppelgänger wasn't Amara or whatever her name was (honest that season and plot made my brain melt so I can't even remember her name right now). Lord help me if they just bring the TVD brother love triangle crap to the originals only instead of the Salvatore's it's the Mikealson's, I will hunt down the writers to these shows and put and end to it. Why, just why? Is it only a mini story arch for when Michael and Esther are back next season, or is it intended to be permanent. I mean upside that means TVD is probably over, downside they are now gonna bring down the quality of the originals.

Amara was/is not a doppelganger. She was the original version, and everyone who followed her are/were the doppelgangers.

And this storyline makes way more sense than your imagined Stefan/Caroline crossover.

I wasn't think cross overs, I was thinking it was going to be permanent. I also wasn't really going for logic, because frankly it is TVD and there isn't much logic. I was more thinking of what characters I would rather see on a regular basis in the Originals, if season 6 was going to be the last season of TVD. Thus I would rather have them bring over some one awesome like Caroline and/or Stefan, than a doppelgänger.

It's only a 1 time flashback...

Also, they already said that Elijah and Klaus both wanted Tatia back in season 2 making it clear to reflect the salvatore situation thing.

I completely baffled by how people complain about the one time this show actually remembers to follow its own continuity...

I'm not complaining about continuity. I know full well that Elijah and Klaus both were in love with Tatia, but there is a difference between referencing it once and actually having to watch it unfold. We already know what brotherly love rival crap looks like with a doppelgänger, we have had to watch 5 seasons of it, I don't want to actually have to watch it rehashed AGAIN. I wasn't aware that it was only 1 episode, my rage must have distracted me from the "one episode flashback" mention. Thus I was worried they were resurrecting Tatia as an actual permanent addition to the Originals.

After all this time, why didn't Klaus or Elijah ever mention how Elena & Katherine looked just like the girl they both loved? Plus the doppelganger storyline has really been overdone. Now they're bringing it into The Originals? That's one of the reasons the Vampire Diaries became so stupid.

It was mentioned on TVD. Katherine told Elena in Season 2 that their look-alike had been scarified to put the hybrid curse on Klaus and that's why he needed another doppelganger to break the curse - so we knew she existed. In Season 3 Stefan & Damon had dinner with Klaus & Elijah and they mentioned her by name and explained that their mother used her blood to turn them into vampires.

Both Elijah and Klaus said that...
You're misremembering season 2 of TVD
That was the original explanation for the existence of the doppelgagner in the first place (until retconned later) and was the main reason why Klaus wanted Katherine to begin with...

Maybe the writers forgot they wrote that in season 2. Only because if Klaus wanted Katherine so bad when he first met her, why didn't he want Elena? All those years could have changed his feelings I guess, but it's too bad they didn't mention anymore of her resemblance. Klaus, Elijah and Elena or Katherine had been in many episodes together and there was never a memory of the love they fought over. Or maybe I just don't like Nina Dobrev very much. I'm not sure what people see in her. There's nothing about her that stands out. (just my opinion)

He did want Elena, he needed her for the ritual to unlock his werewolf side. Katherine he wanted because she screwed him over the last time he tried to complete the ritual. He had her on the run for 500 years and he was happy with making her immortal life miserable. Kidnapping her in Mystic Falls was just apart of that grudge.

Correct. Amara was the original, and after she and Silas became immortal, nature balanced that out by creating mortal doppelgangers. Tatia was the first.

Tatia wasn't the first. The first should have predated Tatia by about 1000 years.

Tatia is more like the first "documented" doppelganger.
They originally said the genealogy tree leads to her, but most likely the mikalson family didn't go before her because they didn't need to.

She's the "original doppelganger" in the same way that Esther was called the "original witch" even though she clearly wasn't the first. I think the term "original" means from the "original family" as in the Makelsons.

Just to prove the point the timeline goes:

2000 years ago Silas and Amara become immortal

1500 years ago Markos casts the spell to get the doppelgangers together (ergo, there had to be another doppelganger)

1000 years ago, Esther created the originals from Tatia's blood.
