The Voice: Four on the Cutting Room Floor

The Voice S02E11: "Live Results, 4 Go Home"

RaeLynn? RAELYNN? America, you’ve failed me.

The six members of Team Blake and the six members of Team Christina performed last night. Voting was open until 10am today and based on the final tally, three members of each team were insta-saved by the hivemind.

THE SAVED

Team Christina:
Jesse Campbell
Chris Mann
Lindsey Pavao

Team Blake:
Erin Willett
Jermaine Paul
RaeLynn

So let’s talk about RaeLynn for a second because after Team Cee Lo’s Erin Martin, RaeLynn has the voice that makes me cringe the hardest. Now, if I found myself locked in a room with the choice between Erin Martin or RaeLynn being played on a loop until death mercifully found me, I’d have to go with RaeLynn, but there is no way, America—no way—that her floppy, incomprehensible rendition of “Wake Up Call” was better than Jordis Unga’s “Alone.”

So what gives? Did my invitation to the hivemind get lost in the mail? I bet it got lost in the mail.

THE CONDEMNED

Team Christina:
Ashley de la Rosa
Moses Stone
Sera Hill

Team Blake:
Naia Kete
Charlotte Sometimes
Jordis Unga

Ashley de la Rosa and Jordis Unga walked away from their last-minute showdowns with supper intact, so at least I found myself agreeing with the judges this week. Ashley’s Grace Potter cover, “Paris Ooh La La,” was exciting and she struck me as the only contestant forced to prove herself (again) who didn’t look absolutely devastated by her plight. She smiled. She was energetic. She was awesome.

Jordis Unga sang The Rolling Stones’ “Wild Horses” and it was lovely. She shouldn’t have had to perform at all tonight, but she made the best of it and, well, we got a great performance out of it.

As for Charlotte, Naia, Sera, and Moses, better luck next time.

Additional, er, notes:

– I feel like Naia Kete got the short end of the stick with Blake. Last night, he shot down her reggae idea and she faltered through a straight cover of Adele’s “Turning Tables.” Tonight, she took the safe route again and covered Beyonce’s “If I was a Boy” and suddenly, Blake longed for reggae.

– I loved Cee Lo’s jacket. But where is Purrfect? It seems like she's always tweeting, but she never makes it to the shows! Bring back Purrfect!

– Am I the only one who doubts that Team Adam was actually singing during their performance with the Gym Class Heroes and Neon Hitch? Did anyone else worry that Neon’s angry bustier was going to take an eye out?

What are your thoughts on tonight’s results? Will you miss Charlotte, Naia, Sera, and/or Moses?

Jordis should have been an automatic over RaeLynn and Naia should have gotten Blake's vote.

However, I don't think RaeLynn will win so no biggie.

Sorry to see Charlotte go, I really like - she has an amazing voice. Don't care much for the other 3, though thought Christina will pick Sera. It's quite understandable that Blake want to keep RaeLynn on his team, and even if she wouldn't be voiced in by the viewers, Blake would save her. I don't know why, but Jordis annoys me - didn't like her performance of "Alone" (Celine Dion's cover is the best).

I think they were all pretty awful this week but America's votes were the worst!

now is it just me or this year's contestants are just way weaker than last year's?

Agreed, last year had a lot more talent.

Unfortunately yes, last year's overall talent was WAY better!

RaeLynn got the country vote. That's the only reason I can think of for her making it through.

Overall I was so frustrated with the show tonight that I turned it off after Jordis got cut out. Glad to hear she got another chance at least but I'm really doubting the core audience's ability to acknowledge real talent over style this year. If Erin Martin makes it through again that'll be all the proof I need.

And that is a good point. RaeLynn is going to be a country artist no matter what transpires this season. She just is. So there really is no reason to keep her, because her future is very much set.

Now I agree, If Erin Martin makes it through again. I may have to stop watching the show.

I didn't watch, I just looked it up online afterwards.. there's no reason results should take more than 10 minutes, especially an hour..

for Blake: RaeLynn should've been in the bottom and been one of the two sent home.. I died a little inside while being forced to watch her performance last night because you can't fast forward live tv.. apart from her, I didn't really want anybody to go home, they were all good enough.. but Naia wasn't that good last night and I'm glad Jordis was saved

for Christina: really? Jesse and Chris were both safe? I strongly dislike both of their voices. but I'm glad Moses got sent home, but Sera should've stayed instead of Jesse or Chris. lame

I'll have to disagree about Raelynn. While I didn't think Wake Up Call was her best performance, I do like her crazy voice. I tend to like unique voices even if they aren't actually that great, so admittedly, my judgement isn't the best. I don't even mind Erin's voice on her good days (which she hasn't really even had since her audition). On her bad, though, even I can't handle it.

I was more upset about the fact that Jermaine went through. Personally, I just don't like the guy. He caused Blake to have to pick between Jordis and Charlotte, and I wanted them both. And of course, it's all about what I want.

I was surprised about Jermaine too. I thought for sure, Blake's 3 Insta-saves were going to be Jordis, Charlotte, and Erin. I wasn't wild about Charlotte when this started, but she grew on me. I don't even like the song "Misery Business" but I really dug her cover.
