The Walking Dead's Season 3 Finale vs. Game of Thrones' Season 3 Premiere: Which Episode Are You Going to Watch First?

The Walking Dead's Season 3 finale airs tonight at 9pm. Game of Thrones' Season 3 premiere airs tonight at... 9pm. And after seeing the internet's latest take on the Syrio Forel "not today" meme, we have a feeling we know where most people's priorities lie. But that won't stop us from asking anyway...

So glad I watched TWD finale before GOT premiere. That piece of crap they call a finale was such a let down on the scale that only GOT premiere could have helped me forget about.

I watched the Walking Dead first but that's just because I can't start a season when I still have a season to finish. It'd be different if Game of Thrones came back half way into the season but with the last episode I felt I had to watch TWD first. Of course I watched GOT immediately after so it all worked out.

Watched walking dead first but damn, that finale was the most disappointing ever....At least game of thrones was a bit more interesting and we know there's still more to come.... just cant believe how they ended season 3 of TWD, unbelievably lame for all that build up...

Try not to forget there WILL be another season. By that I mean I don't know if things with the Governor are over or not (I haven't read all the comics). I kind of hope they are, but at least the option is open for yet another stand off. I thought the final was rather well done, actually. Nice musical scoring, especially at the end. Not too heavy-handed with the metaphor at the end. Some decent action, lots of zombies killed, etc. The fight scene at the prison was admittedly anti-climatic, but that was necessary so that the Governor could kill his own people and ultimately Rick and crew accept the others. It was about contrast, and character. No big loss over Andrea, though.

Exactly! the episode felt more like the last one before the finale not the actual finale.

Watched both (TWD first), loved neither. Pretty underwhelming night.

Considering you havent posted The Walking Dead finale's review yet, we know which one was your first choice tv.com staff :)

I watched The Walking Dead first. with all do respect to GoT (and there's tons!), season finale beats season premier 9 times out of 10, and especially when its as good a show as TWD. not to mention, I've read all the Song of Ice and Fire books, its not like I'm going to be shocked or wowed by the events of the season 3 premier.

I felt the same way, and yes I also noticed there's no finale review yet. :)

I watched The Walking Dead first just because I felt like watching GoT last.
My experience was - Walking Dead season finale was a lot more exciting, action packed and of course more fast. Since it was a finale, it had to be thrilling.
While GoT was not bad, it was great as well, but it felt a bit slow and I felt it finished rapidly without delivering any main messages. All in all, can't wait to see how the story unfolds next episode and the rest of the season.

I almost think a two-hour finale would have been more justified. I think it was well done, but as I said in an earlier post, while the episode was good, the fighting scene was a little anti-climatic. I can't wait for the next either, but sadly, we all have to -- at a zombie pace.

Walking Dead first. If it frustrates or angers me, I still have Game of Thrones to put me in a happy place.

THE WALKING DEAD FINALE WAS AWESOME and I have no idea what happened on the GoT premiere because I didn't watch it. so there. :p

I don't watch GoT at all,,,,and always get lynched when saying so. It's such a bore.
Reply

I have to be in the mood to watch it but it's visually stunning and they know how to play up that character drama. kingdoms and swords and all that does usually bore me.

I watched WD because it was the finale. For a finale it was pretty dull...

The meme is quite funny, but I'm afraid I'm definitely going with The Walking Dead's finale. It's not the easiest choice, for sure, but I guess after reading all the books in a quick binge I lost some of my zeal for watching the show -- and season two wasn't quite as good as season one, I felt. Personal opinion, but there you go. I AM happy that as of next week Game of Thrones will be there to fill the void left by the zombies, though.

This meme is perfect, and I am definitely going to be watching Game of Thrones before The Walking Dead. I was talking to a coworker during my shift at DISH today who was going to do the same, so it seems like dragons beat zombies at least for today. My DISH Hopper can record up to six shows at once during primetime, so I can definitely catch both of them.

I'll watch the TWD first just because it's the finale. Get it out of the way so I can focus on more important stuff, namely "Game of Thrones".

Pah, please. I love them both but TWD is going to be chewing on GoT's warm corpse in every sense. Why start something and miss the finale to start something new... mindless. TWD first, we'll start GoT after to replace TWD.

TWD isnt even in the same league as GOT , this season has been complete crap , its not even following the source material like GOT is

I've read all 5 GOT books, the first 3 at least half a dozen times and season 1 and 2 are remarkable close to the books some lines are even take straight from the books, except for robbs story and the house of the undying. Ya they leave things like thoughts and dreams out but how are the supposed to include that.

So you're suggesting that it's better to watch a show where you know where the plot is going vs. a show that will be new material and expand upon a universe creatively? Sorry russelmorris, your logic is flawed. And Shauny89 is right, a season finale trumps a season premiere, especially when you can get your mind done with one show and start fresh with the second.

Most of the people I know are saving GoT for either the later airing (at 10 or whatever) and watching TWD live since it's the season finale.

Granted, I don't watch GoT, so my decision was easy enough.
Reply

Why are you asking it like it's some kind of big dilemma? We have internet, haven't we? And everyone will watch GoT after WD (or WD after GoT) anyway by using well-known sources. Are all american viewers suddenly not using them?

so : The Walking Dead then Game Of Thrones

I am weirdly offended that the Game of Throne and The Walking Dead are in the same article...

I don't have the channel here in Canada that airs GOT live, while I do have AMC. So, uh, by default, I'll be watching The Walking Dead (as it airs at 9pm) then I'll have to download GOT later on.
Reply

You make it sound like we don't have HBO in Canada. BTW, Telus is offering 50% off the suite of channels that includes HBO for the 1st 6 months..

Really? I thought I was pretty clear in saying I just don't have the channel that airs it -- HBO Canada, I presume -- by saying "the channel" rather than "a channel", but okay, I'll rephrase: HBO Canada is a specialty channel available for me to buy, but I'm too cheap to do so. AMC, however, comes with my cable subscription, so I'll be watching TWD.

In my country they opened HBO this weekend just so people can watch GoT. Then they offered a discount in the subscription. I have been watching HBO non stop since then.

I really think about skipping GoT for ten weeks so I can watch all episodes in a row. So then I would have enough time for TWD,haha. Hmm.
By the old Gods and the new, this can't be done! Ygritte says otherwise, but what does SHE know?

Game of Thrones has no commercials. Walking Dead does. Therefore, Game of Thrones first, and DVR TWD

It's funny though, I actually ended up doing the opposite. I realized that I spend alot of time on twitter, and Walking Dead wouldve been spoiled for me if I didn't watch it live. Game of Thrones, on the other hand, I've read the books, so it wouldn't REALLY spoil me, apart from knowing something that I knew was going to happen anyway happened in this episode.

You've gotta finish what you've started. Walking Dead, then Game of Thrones on HBO GO.

This is a cruel night, but I think I'm leaning toward The Walking Dead. I'd rather finish the Walking Dead first and then completely immerse my self in Game of Thrones for the next 10 weeks!

My dad asked what I was doing for Easter. I said GAME OF THRONES IS MY JESUS AND ON SUNDAY HE IS RISEN!! And he said 'oookay' and backed away slowly.

Game of Thrones comes first, even before The Walking Dead. It's not even a question.

I'm pretty sure there'll be multiple re-broadcast of both show after their first showing, plus we can still TVoed it or just can it on the net.

What I'm saying here is: if you want to watch both shows tonight, there's plenty of ways you can do it, regardless of which show you end up watching first.
