Tina Fey Earns a Straight-to-Series Order from NBC for Her New Comedy Starring The Office's Ellie Kemper

Tina Fey is NBC's golden child, having won approximately 835 Emmys for the network already. So if anyone can save NBC, it's probably Tina Fey, right? It's clear the network is certainly hoping so, because it's ordered 13 episodes of a new single-camera comedy series from Fey and her creative partner Robert Carlock, who won three Emmys for his work on 30 Rock. Yes, that's correct: This is a straight-to-series deal, no pilot process for Ms. Fey!

The as-yet-untitled sitcom stars The Office's Ellie Kemper as a woman who escapes a doomsday cult and attempts to start her life over in New York City. The series is currently scheduled for a fall 2014 premiere. Fey and Carlock will write, and 30 Rock's David Miner will executive produce.

Does this sound like something you'll watch?

that premise sounds hilarious and original.

I'll certainly give it a shot but the names sell it alot more than the synopsis. How many times have we seen someone trying to start their life or get their life in order in New York City? It's played out, just adding that one unique feature doesn't sound like it's going to make it that different after the first episode. We need to stop setting things in NYC and LA, I've seen enough of those two fucking cities for one life time and I've never been to either.

Fey usually puts up good product but like SNL,tends to run a concept into the ground (ie the sameole-sameole Fey/Poehler we're just a couple of fun and crazy chicks bits they do every award show). And personally I think Kempers one trick pony schtick ran it's course during the last season of the office. But from the unscientific poll of responses here (decidedly female skewed) it appears that this will be given a more than fair shot. Hope it's at least 1/2 as good as 30 roc.

Omg, that sounds great! Good, just cancel Sean Versus the World, put Community back on, then make this show. Easy, I just won the Dead Pool and saved NBC.

Ellie Kemper was one of the few good things about the Office towards the end, and Tina is Tina, and NBC is still in the wilderness so even if this show gets 30 Rock ratings it might still stand a chance. I'm excited!

So she has this show. Wasn't she also pitching one about a females-only college campus and even a third?

Both Fey and Kemper are hilarious. I really have high hopes for this. unless the writing is pure trash, this should soar.

A doomsday cult ? Something to do with Kenneth's dubious past ?

Tina Fey is the funniest, smartest person alive. This doesn't mean every project she takes on will be gold ("Baby Mama") but I have higher hopes for this than for other things that have been greenlit recently.

currently I'm probably looking forward to "Mulaney" more. that is assuming short and Pedrad both remain attached. Granted short is potentially the bigger draw but pedrad is absolutely wasted on SNL as is virtually anyone with a modicum of talent anymore.

I would love to SEE Fey regularly again as she's a brilliant comedic actress herself, I guess her and the 30 Rock crew behind it and Kemper staring will have to suffice. I like Kemper but there's not been any indication she could carry a show on her own.

Here we go again. Do you really think she will have to? Tina didn't have to. I trust Tina to select a cast worthy of her writing.

I'm not entirely sure what you're trying to say. "do you really think she didn't have ton." and "tina didn't have to." aren't complete thoughts.
