TNT and The Rock Announce Summer Premiere Dates for Falling Skies, Rizzoli & Isles, and More (VIDEO)

Why just send out a simple press release when you can cobble together a trailer to announce and promote your summer TV schedule? TNT opted for the latter, and today released the video above, featuring a combo of recycled clips and new teasers for its new and returning summer shows.

Amidst the familiar faces from Falling Skies (which the video doesn't tell you will once again kick things off with a two-hour premiere), PerceptionMajor Crimes, and the b'ampersanded duos of Rizzoli & Isles and Franklin & Bash, you'll also see snippets of new series (and ampersands) The Hero, 72 HoursCold Justice, and King & Maxwell. (For those of you who don't have the patience to sit through The Rock smiling at you all creepy-like and Captain Weaver shooting rocket launchers in order to get to the dates at the end, I've listed them at the bottom of his story in an easy-to-read format.)

Now, how about some details/loglines on the new kids?

The Hero, a reality competition series hosted by Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, "will bring nine ordinary people together and assign them various missions testing their brains, their brawn and even their morality" and ask viewers to vote on who deserves the title of the show's title.

72 Hours, another reality competition series, will abandon three teams of strangers in the wilderness with a single bottle of water and a GPS tracking device, then give them three days to find a hidden briefcase containing $100,000. So I guess it's like The Amazing Race meets Man vs. Wilde meets Take the Money and Run meets Survivor? Whatever, it sounds like pretty typical ridiculous summer fare.

Cold Justice is an "unscripted procedural drama" that follows a real-life prosecutor and crime-scene investigator as they reopen unsolved murder cases in small towns in an attempt to finally get to the truth. Expect eight episodes, with a new old case each week.

And finally, on the scripted side of things, King & Maxwell is a "private-eye drama" starring Jon Tenney and Rebecca Romijn as the titular characters who the network promises "aren't your typical private investigators" because they're both former Secret Service agents, one who's also a former Olympian and the other who had to leave the Secret Service when his charge was assassinated. The pair will use their unique skills to solve cases. TNT's press release mentions that King and Maxwell have "razor-sharp chemistry" but also that they "clash over everything." Maybe they'll also rely on their trusty ampersand to rule in cases of marketing dept. contradictions? Only time will tell.

Rizzoli & Lakes love this show...

I take Franklin & Bash and Falling Skies and skip on the The Zero. What happened Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson, that made you flush your (hang on for dear life) career down the toilet with a reality show? Well, at least you can go fully back to wrestling after TNT pulls it due to low ratings.

Love Rizzoli & Isles. Enjoy Major Crimes. Will try Cold Justice. Must watch John Tenney even if his ampersand show sucks, because he's a fine specimen of a man and I was not getting enough eye candy from his occasional visits with Major Crimes. :)

The premise for King & Maxwell reads like someone spent 5 minutes with a can of white out, a sharpie and the premise for Common Law.

I've been waiting for Falling Skies! I wish they didn't have such short seasons and that we have to wait so long for them, but at least it's back, and I hope it keeps coming back. ;)

MEH. How is Falling Skies still on. Once again, I forgot it existed, just like I totally forgot to keep watching it after episode 2 of the first season.

Normally, I'd check out the new scripted series, but I really can't stomach another police procedural. Falling Skies and Franklin & Bash will do.

Falling Skies I'm really looking forward to, I know it's been reviewed as bad, but I still love this show. Rizzoli&Isles is also a favorite and Franklin&Bash... fills up those lost hours nicely ;)

How much more reality can we cope with! I mean seriously people has our brain power doubled down that much in 20 years that we need this much crap. In the future if we all don't switch off to these shows that's all we will have. I don't mind a couple of reality shows but how many are there?

I'm waitning for Rizzoli & Isles. I'm also curious where will this train wreck called "Falling Skies" go in new season. Due to 15 years of watching ER (it's the best medical series ever created - and yes, I'm watching Greys Anatomy from beginning) I have a soft spot for Noah Wyle.

Can't wait for Perception. For me it's one of the best TV show's I've seen in a long time. Eric McCormack is outstanding.

I'm just waiting for R&I but I do hope this season can be good cause the last two were kinda.....boring to be honest. Yes, I'm a fan of Tess Gerritsen's books, that's why my expectations are so high.

I am actually excited about Falling Skies, it is the one sort of genre shows I really actually don't feel any pressure or anything thinking about, it is sort of like, I don't know, the shows you think should be on Sunday nights where you finished your weekend, you have work on Monday and the last thing you really want to think about is the political intrigue of Game of Thrones (I hold out on that until Monday...I am smarter after a day of work).

King & Maxwell is the only one that I think I'd have any interest in, and I have my doubts about that one.

"King & Maxwell" is also bringing Ryan "Opie" Hurst back to television. Also, Cynthia Addai-Robinson "Naevia" and "Noonan" Michael O'Keefe. How did Jon Tenney get the lead over Hurst? One is great the other is as exciting to watch as paint drying. At least if this show fails, Romijn's other great show ("NTSF:SD:SUV) got picked up for a third season!

Love me some ampersanded shows on T&T. Also Perceptron and Major Crimes. None of their reality product sounds compelling though, but I'll give King & Maxwell a chance because it has an ampersand (and also Jon "Fritzy" Tenney and Rebecca "the lettuce" Romijn are both compelling actor folks).

"Summer on TNT, because what else are you gonna watch, network? Ha, right! Yeah, I didn't think so. Now stop crying & watch TNT!"

PS - great to see ya posting something under your own name, Jen, I was starting to wonder since the last time I remember anything from you was when Price left.

Whats' Romijn's "lettuce" in reference to? Or "fritzy" for that matter.
Reply

Fritzy is the character Jon Tenney played on his last series, The Closer, FBI agent Fritz Howard, or "Fritzy" to his wife Brenda Leigh Johnson (the titular character).

Rebecca Romijn's last name is a homophone for romaine lettuce, on LA's Fox 11 Good Morning LA they'd always show a picture of a head of lettuce in place of her likeness when talking about her and it kinda stuck.
