TNT Orders a Supernatural Series from The Closer's Kyra Sedgwick and a '60s Cop Drama from Ed Burns

TNT has ordered two new drama series from The Closer's Kyra Sedgwick and Mob City alum Ed Burns, the network announced Wednesday.

Proof, executive-produced by Sedgwick, stars Jennifer Beals as Dr. Kathryn Russo, a brilliant surgeon who begins investigating supernatural phenomena—including resurrections, out-of-body experiences, and hauntings. In her personal life, Russo is grappling with the loss of her teenage son and trying to salvage her strained relationship with her daughter. Matthew Modine (Weeds), Joe Morton (Scandal), Callum Blue, Edi Gathegi, Annie Thurman, and Sean Gleeson also star. Murphy Brown alum Rob Bragin wrote the pilot and will serve as an executive producer with Jill Littman, and producer Tom Jacobson.

Public Morals—which Burns wrote, stars in, and executive-produces—is a 1960s cop series about New York City's Public Morals Division and the police officers who walk the line between morality and criminality. However, one officer, Burns' Terry Muldoon, is determined to raise his sons with integrity. Michael Rapaport and Elizabeth Masucci will co-star in the series, which is also executive-produced by Steven Spielberg, Darryl Frank, Justin Falvey and Aaron Lubin. TNT has ordered 10 episodes of the drama, which will premiere in 2015.

Wow, I'd need an out-of-body experience to sit through those two offerings. Someone should suggest to Dr. Kathryn Russo that she reads some Anne Rice novels and be done. And that a struggling PC cop dealing with family issues is in fact an abuse of the viewer.
