TNT Pulls the Plug on HawthoRNe; Is Memphis Beat Next?

It's been a tough few weeks for Jada Pinkett-Smith. She made headlines for the wrong reasons when it was reported she was splitting with A-list hubby Will Smith (apparently they aren't actually done-zo, despite the rumors). Gossip-mongerers have also claimed she had an affair with Marc Anthony, J-Lo's ex. And then late yesterday, she was photographed without any makeup! Poor, poor incredibly wealthy celebrity woman.

But the exclamation point on her fortnight of horror came today when TNT formally announced it was canceling HawthoRNe, as reported by Deadline Hollywood. The medical drama has been on for three seasons, but the last episode drew only a meager 3.6 million viewers, which won't cut it on on-the-rise TNT.

And next up to be swept under the rug could be Memphis Beat. Deadline says the show, which stars Jason Lee as an Elvis-loving police detective, has a 50/50 chance of being canceled as well. Comparatively, Memphis Beat's last episode drew 4.9 million viewers, so I'm not sure where all this cancellation talk comes from.

Do you want to give Jada Pinkett-Smith a hug right now? Will you miss HawthoRNe?

Memphis Beat is an enjoyable show and should not be cancelled. Hawthorne was not particularly good and deserves to be cancelled. But the bigger issue for me is what TNT is doing with the streaming. Many of us watch shows by streaming. They start the year out allowing anyone to stream then half way through the season they LOCK shows where you can't stream it unless you "unlock it" by entering information about your cable subscription or satellite subscription. If you had cable/satellite - you obviously would not need to stream the show! And the worse part is - you get all involved in the show and then WHAM! you can't watch the rest of the shows. I have emailed TNT three times over as many weeks but they do not answer the emails. I for one have a real issue with a company that is so arrogant as to ignore questions from their viewers and the decision to lock out viewers. It is not as if they do not get advertising revenue. This is really very poor public relations and shows that the company is run by a group of people lacking the common decency to inform their viewers and customers. This is every bit as offensive as what Netflix did - yet there has been zero media coverage of it. One wonders why.

HawthoRne was just begging to be cancelled when the newly wed cheated on her husband. That was B.S. and I agree with everything msdione said. But PLEASE, FOR GOD'S SAKE don't take away MEMPHIS BEAT. TNT claims to KNOW DRAMA......Well, TNT viewers KNOW WHAT THEY LIKE AND MEMPHIS BEAT IS WHAT WE LIKE.

I was hoping they would cancel HawthoRNe with the season finale they had. I invested 2 years in Tom and Christina's relationship and I finally got what I wanted. Then they had the nerve to bring in that ugly sucker, Marc Anthony, so she could have an affair with him!!! I was so done, I deleted the season from my DVR. I always have to know how a season ends, so I watched the finale and it ended with Marc getting shot dead and Tom speeding away. Christina runs to Marc's lifeless body crying for help, HILARIOUS!!!!!!!! I laughed so much I was in tears. I didn't want an investigation into who killed that S.O.B. and I wanted Christina to SUFFER!!!! Now I love Memphis Beat and I do not want them to cancel it for any reason!! Hope they fall on the 50 percent change to keep it around. I already have to say good-bye to The Closer, don't want to lose my Memphis Beat.

It's bad enough to take Hawthorne away but please leave Memphis Beat alone. I'm so tired of all the reality crap we have to contend with on TV these days. it is a pleasure to watch an actual series. There are many of us who actually enjoy these shows. I know plenty of people in Jacksonville and St Augustine, FL that are fans of Memphis Beat. Leave the good shows alone!

Never watched Hawthorne, but I do like Memphis Beat. I'll admit that it's not Homicide or Hill Street Blues, but it's good summer popcorn fare that's fun to watch.

I am so upset and disappointed that HawthoRNe is being cancelled. It it the best show on television! I pray that Memphis Beat is not next! My love to all the Jada Pinkett-Smith and all the cast...maybe the Oprah Winfrey Network will pick up HawthoRNe...anything is possible!

Hawthorne Yes..However, "Memphis Beat" has a great cast/writers and producers..It would be hard to replace with a series with more potential, and prospects to be even better...."Memphis Beat" deserves a season three..

really getting sick and tired of tv networks getting rid of shows that I really, really like. I think they would be stupid to get rid of Memphis Beat. I love the singing, I love the comedy and I like the seriousness of it. I looked forward to it when it came back on and was sad when the season finale came on. But I look forward to seeing it back on with new episodes.

Don't know why I stayed with Hawthorne, it stunk this year. I kept saying I would stop watching it all of last year, too, but didn't. Memphis Beat is a great show! They'd better not even think of canceling it.

Will I miss HawthoRNe? not after this season. I watched this season thinking I would see a shred of the 1st 2 seasons. I agree with others the show took the soap route, too bad so sad. If this had been the kind of writing in the 1st season the show wouldn't have made it past the first couple of shows.

Don't be messing with my Memphis Beat!

I love Memphis Beat. I would truly miss this show being canceled. I stream everything I watch, like thousands of others. Hope this isn't hurting the shows rating. I watch Hawthorne also, but the one show I can't stand is Rizzoli and Iles. or however you say it. The only Fox show I will be watching is Fringe...they canceled all my favorites....Lie to Me, Chicago Code and Moving Target.

I enjoy Memphis Beat and Jason Lee. It is nice to have original programming when other networks are all reruns! The cast on Memphis Beat are lovable and I enjoy Dwight's relationship with his "mama". It may not be the best show on television but it sure beats 75% of the reality show CRAP airing! I never watched HawthoRNe because I cannot stand Jada Pinkett-Smith nor can I stand Marc Anthony!

the last season sucked anyway so i'm kinda happy its gone. memphis beat i'm 50/50 on as well so i probably wouldn't be bothered by its cancellation too much as i just am not into it that much.

I absolutely loved the first two seasons of Hawthorne but season three was a dog. They seemed to forget they were a medical show and moved into bizarre soapy territory with over religious tones. This past season of Memphis beat was fantastic and only improved on the first season. Fingers crossed for its renewal.

I enjoyed Hawthorne until this season. The show made no sense and strayed far away from from the premise of season 1&2. I am rooting for Memphis Beat to be renewed.

There are only two reasons why I'm sad HawthoRNe is being cancelled: Suleka Mathew and Michael Vartan.

Other than that, the last season was really crappy!

The story lines were inconsistent, Marc Anthony is a lousy actor and has no place on TV (in some episodes you could see he wore an ear piece - and even that did not help him be convincing)

I don't care about HawthoRNe. I am glad that show got cancelled. However, I do hope Memphis Beat is coming back for next season.

I don't watch medical shows so I can't comment on the cancelation but I find Memphis Beat a bit different from the rest of the cop-shows so I hope it won't be cancelled.
