Whether you love it, loathe it, or remain completely indifferent about it, TNT's Falling Skies will be back for a second season. The show has been a ratings beast for the network that until recently focused mainly on female-centric power programs, and is bringing in the coveted young male viewer—all in addition to being a big hit overseas, where people aren't as jaded and cynical. According to TNT, the series has averaged more than 6.4 million viewers since its premiere last month.
Falling Skies is also one of the more divisive series in recent TV history, with audience split between fans and haters. It's also getting a lot of talk here on TV.com, and has ranked among our top three most popular shows for a few weeks now. I admit that it has its problems, but as far as summer programming goes, it could be a lot worse. And who can hate Noah Wyle? He's so... everyman!
The second season of Falling Skies is due to air in the summer of 2012 and will run for 10 episodes. The show is currently airing its first season on Sunday nights on TNT... so I guess we now know that Tom and company won't be killing the aliens off this season.

I Love this show, but it could be tweaked! More action less talk, and more of those new Aliens !! All in all B+ but only 10 episodes for a full season? I agree with JimYager1 that is a tease !! and then to wait an entire year for the next season? people will loose interest waiting that long. You know how people are, you need to grab them and hold them, or they will move on to something else, and a year between seasons is too long, 6 months is more like it !!
Way back in THE DAY, shows like Star Trek (any series), The X-Files and such, ran for 26 weeks, went on hiatus, and, then came back on. When did shows like Walking Dead, Hell on Wheels, Falling Skies, Terra Nov and V, start with a season being only 10 episodes? That used to be called a mini-series, now, that is called a full season? What's the deal here? I think that the production companies are getting cheap and lazy, and, we as fans, are putting up with it.
im loving it soso far soso make me smile and too keep on wathing it plzzz
verry nice job i can say it .. i have long time to see a serie like this for exemple like 'V" with Mark Singer :) well its close the idea But i will say that am waiting to see the second part and hope that will grow up like "V" ! i hope that will not be the end in season 2 !!
Great work from me the serie it's counting for 10/10 points .
Just finished watching last episode. I liked it all but agree it needs to be a bit more gritty. Episodes need to be a bit more explosive, sometimes I felt there was too much talking. Interested in light of the last scene on how they plan to start the 2nd series.
the show is great, it has everything. fighting, some love. even a little bit of funniness. with adults, eg Tom. Teen, eg Hal and kids eg, Ben, Matt
I like the show. I question the wisdom behind having to wait nearly a year before the 2nd season airs.People are moody, they love or like the show now but a lot can happen in a years time.that changes what people want to watch.
Tv shows and movies are about MONEY bottom line the more people talk about and watch a show the more CASH a network makes. So why when you have viewers would you break your cash cow by gambling that you can keep your viewers after a years break. any thing can happen.
NightDawg hit the nail on the head down there by saying there is a lack of tension/suspense that the aliens could be storming in their little school at any point whatsoever. Sure, you'll have to have some kumbaya moments (I always think of the Lost episode where Charlie gets Claire peanut butter) but the entire time they are at the school the viewers can and do easily ease up, which isn't what sci-fi dramas should be doing for 2/3's of their episodes.
10 episodes is not a a season. I feel like I have ADHD.
It is ok, waiting to see where it goes. You have to have some patience when you have a big cast like this.Hey, at least it isn't another reality show. We need a constitutional amendment to outlaw those! HA
Didn't care for it, and ER sucked, and Noah can't act.
Funny you should say that. I like pretty much everything about the show EXCEPT Noah Wyle. Week in, week out, I tune in as much as anything else hoping they'll kill him off. He's so...nothing.
I love it.
Think it's placed so high on the popular list because there is like no shows running right now.!
i like it, people are too critical, and everything is better than all those reality tv shows, so hater, just dont watch then, seriously, watch your reality, white trash ***
This show is horrible trash. Stargate Universe gets canned and this is the utter crap we get stuck with. The world is a pretty harsh place.
moom goodblood is the most beautiful woman on this earth!!!
Saw the first episode last week, is it meant to be a sc- fi to be taken seriously? Not for me, way too much smarmy melodrama, what the hell was that kids on the skateboard bit? I expected the cast behind them to break into song and dance at any minute.Having said that, I'll still continue to watch in the hope it gets better, and some sort of humour is brought in, it takes itself too seriously, I wont hold my breath though, Aliens it aint.
I'm watching to fill the summer void. Thought it would be better, though. Aliens aren't scary or menacing for me. The storyline is plodding and needs more suspense. The lobster shell mind control is a joke. I agree with another commenter...wish Stargate Atlantis hadn't been cancelled. That show had it all.
It has not proved itself but it's getting there at least I do not have to put up with so-called reality shows or worse soaps. I'm just looking for something that will fill the void of stargate atlantis since some so-called big shot put an end to it.So for now I will watch it but like many shows if it does become successful they might give it the chop anyway.
I really like this show.Im happy to see it back for a second season. The aliens are very realistic for a tv series.
Guess this thing doesn't separate your paragraphs the way you type them out...sorry that the wall of text is there in my comment.
Not the best Sci-Fi treat for me by far but for now I continue to tolerate it. I personally wish it had a darker more adult theme to it. I'm usually not impressed by some extra serious affair being treated w/ the summer camp/kumbaya tone. The show has potential in its story but I have not seen it really touched. Hopefully the 2nd season refines that and brings real tension to this story. So far I just don't get any sense of real tension whatsoever giving a hostile alien takeover where most of humanity has been wiped out.BSG & SGU were two recent Sci-Fi shows where for me they were able to get me to see the seriousness of the situation, to feel the tension of not only the scenario but from the characters. I was able to feel just had bad both story's situation was. So far Falling Skies has yet to bring me in to this supposedly horrible situation.moreless
LOVVVVVVVVVVVVVEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE IIIIIIIIIITTTTTTTTTTTTTTT.......
This show needs to get a lot better or I can see ratings falling off a cliff real soon.
I don't love it. I don't hate it. I'm not necessarily indifferent about it either. It's more like... I really want to like it, but I kind of don't. The summer isn't packed with shows, so I'll keep tuning in (unless/until they do something really stupid) because the premise is cool enough and the women on the show are attractive, but like I said, I don't think it's been that good so far.
GREAT NEWS .... I LOVE THIS SHOW ...THANK YOU TNT
Can we see the actual invasion though?
I am an SF fan and I haven't decided yet whether I like the show or not but I am glad they have renewed it. it's always better for the writers to have future plot ideas to develop. As I was also a total ER fan, I started watching because Noah Wyle is in it and I will persevere (I even enjoyed the truly awful Librarian films)
I don't like the show at all but I'm still happy for the fans. Why would I be upset it got renewed if I don't even watch it? At least it's a scripted show...with real actors and writers etc.
"Good news for anyone who is a sci-fi fan just like me!" --- well, damn, I'm so glad that every SF fan in the world is the same. Let's now all band together and say that Close Encounters of the Third Kind is the same as Independence Day. In other words, this show gives us nothing new, it's full of logic holes (which I particularly dislike) - and I don't like Noah Wyle. And I'm a SF fan, go figure.
We can track a one car in a *** afganistan and all powerfull aliens can't track a group of 300 people with a pickup and tons of loud motorbikes?
@antdude: No, it didn't get better after the first couple of episodes. Though, as @Mistral5 notes, it does have potential. For me, the problem is that they haven't thought it through, yet. I'm willing to accept just about anything as a setup, but the elements of it need to be explained and justified. Like the whole "we've got 300+ people, some of them armed combatants, holed up in a school north of Boston, and they go out and do military-type stuff in broad daylight, and the aliens can't find them...WTF? I'm still willing to buy it at this point, but the show needs to float at least a tentative explanation (or, failing that, to have the characters express surprise occasionally at how they're getting away with such an extreme lack of stealth). And there's also the evangelical girl, who was unfortunately present in the last episode. I don't mind religious types in a scenario like this--in fact, it makes sense that there would be folks who would go there. But like everything else, the inflection of one's faith has to change when the world has been taken over by spiderz from outer space. It could be interesting to explore that, but the writers aren't doing that yet--a part of the "not thinking it through" thing that is making me sad about "Falling Skies." It's still mainly just platitudes.I'll keep watching, because it's sf and it's new and this is kind of a bleak summer for tv and this is better than other options, and also because building (and thinking through) a sf future, even a near-future one, is hard and it takes time, and I hope getting an order for a second season will give the writers a bit more leeway to take their time and develop the complexities that could easily be found in the situation they've set up. That said, if it hasn't gotten smarter and less dependent on hitting viewers over the head with bricks and yanking at the heartstrings of viewers like a hyperactive spaniel puppy with a pull toy by the end of season 1, I probably won't tune in for season 2. Just sayin'.moreless
definitely LOVE it! though your comments here on tv.com make it difficult for me to enjoy the new episodes... I guess 'we' "aren't as jaded and cynical" ;)
LOVE IT!!
Spielberg is sure a powerful guy.
LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE (Did I make my opinion clear?)
Im not upset that it got renewed....more so confused...I havnt watched more then the 1st 5 minutes of episode one so Im not gonna judge the show....but based on its ratings how in the hell has it already been renewed?
The first two episodes were bad to me. Did it get better?
love it :P
I'm glad that a good show will be back for a second season. The story is interesting, and while the graphics leave some laughable qualities, the fight for human survival can touch anyone who doesn't have an automatic hate just from the previews.
Good news for anyone who is a sci-fi fan just like me. Thank godness this show will be on television for the second season.
Sweet
love it
Love, Love, LOVE this show!! It's about time that a bonafide science fiction hit the airwaves!! It is the absolute BEST sci-fi show since they ruined and then cancelled the once-great Stargate SG-1.
couldn't give one
Thats cool, there is a lot worse on TV now!Now if we can just cancel the reality shows!!!!
Oh, good news! I didn't expect much of it, and I know it has its flaws, but as opposed to a lot of other, higher rated, shows, Falling Skies is FUN. Granted, the characters lack depth and the acting isn't too good, but it isn't boring and it's got that invisible "I want to keep watching"-factor.
Yes this is great news. There is a lot this show can do and I'm glad to see that it was renewed for a 2nd season.
