People's online news site revealed today that Hollywood lovebirds Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes are expecting their first child together.
The news came to People early this afternoon in an exclusive statement from Cruise's spokesperson, Lee Anne DeVette. "Tom and Katie are very excited, and the entire family is very excited," she told the celebrity news magazine.
DeVette gave no details about the baby's gender or due date, but assured People that Holmes "has never felt better."
Cruise, 43, proposed to Holmes, 26, atop Paris's Eiffel Tower this June after a whirlwind courtship that began in April. The couple spent their first months together in the midst of a media frenzy, but have backed out of the spotlight since announcing their engagement. According to DeVette, a wedding date has not been set.
The Top Gun star has two adopted children, Connor, 10, and Isabella, 12, from a previous marriage to actress Nicole Kidman. In a June interview with Vanity Fair, Kidman warned her ex-husband that too much public exposure could damage his relationship with Holmes.
"In terms of your life, if you start to exploit it, then what's real, and what's not?" Kidman said. "What's yours, and what isn't?"
Holmes, who starred in the WB's hit series Dawson's Creek, appeared in this summer's film Batman Begins. Cruise is currently working on Mission: Impossible 3 in Los Angeles.

I don't nderstand why people are knocking Tom and Katie for their recent announcment. Just because Tom had strong opinions on his religion, how does that change the fact that he and Katie are both good actors and, if they want to have a baby, what's so wrong with that?<br />

I'm not saying I support Tom's opinions, becuase I don't. But really, that's no reason to judge him on other aspects of his life. It's a free country and no one can prove that their religion is the right one to follow.<br />

Wow... there went religion right out of the window. I thought I read somewhere that Kate said she was a devout catholic and wanted to wait until she got married before having sex. Guess that didn't pan out as planned. And not to mention Tom's side... Still can't figure out what scientology is really about but are those people even christians? They are really not good role models. At least Britney got one thing right and married before having a child.

I used to like her but ever since that p.o.s. started dating her then the way too fast engagement, she became on my hollywood hate list. People say Britney Spears and Kevin Federline were too fast to jump into marriage? Or that Jessica Alba was too young for Michael Weatherly? Well, take a look at this couple and barf. They are too much exploited and their relationship seems fake. She's probably faking the pregnancy just to see if he really is cheating with the much more talented and beautiful actress Keri Russell. She's got jealously problems and he is just annoying. I don't understand how people like them. I hope they break-up or get a divorce IF they get married cus Katie needs a wake-up call from her childhood fantasy. And he needs to be commited.
