Tony Hart, whose art shows captivated five generations of children, passed away last night after suffering from years of poor health. No cause of death has been given, however his family have told the BBC that "he died peacefully."
The British TV presenter, whose creations included the BAFTA award winning series Take Hart, appeared on art programmes for nearly 50 years. First appearing on screen in the 1950s children's programme Saturday Special
, Hart went on to present numerous art shows including Vision On, Hartbeat and Morph TV before retiring in 2001 due to his declining health. In a statement issued yesterday, Richard Deverell, the controller of BBC children's TV, said: "Tony was a warm man who had a unique ability to communicate with and inspire children. His dedication to making art look simple and his ability to help bring it to life through characters like Morph has influenced generations of children to be creative."
In October 1998 Hart was awarded a BAFTA Lifetime Achievement Award, the academy's highest honour, in acknowledgement of his contribution to children's television.
What are your fondest Tony Hart memories?

I grew up with the guy. He will be sadly missed RIP.
I remember 'Vision On' from when I was a youngster, then 'Take Hart', he was like a British Rolf Harris....
One of the old greats, he inspired my love of art. Rest in Peace
sad news even my mum loved him! RIP
I'll always remember his shows from when I was a kid. RIP Tony.
It's a shame, this guy was creative and invented Morph which I wouldn't be surprised inspired Nick Park just a little when creating Wallace and Gromit. RIP Tony Hart
Takes me back to my youth when everyone watched Vision On. RIP Tony.
