Torchwood: Miracle Day is the Show We've Been Waiting For

One thing that disappointed after the major TV networks released their fall schedules is the lack of any "event-type" television. You know the kind: a show wrapped in a giant mystery that may or may not be caused by aliens, a government conspiracy, long-dormant cave-dwelling gnomes just under the Earth's surface, or all three at the same time because the apocalypse is on its way.

Network TV has given us something like that to look forward to (and be incredibly disappointed by) for several seasons now in shows like FlashForward, The Event, and any other serialized sci-fi mysteries you can think of. This season we get Fox's Terra Nova, which looks more like a classic Spielberg adventure, and J.J. Abrams' Alcatraz, which doesn't air 'til next year and merely features missing guards and inmates from the famous prison.

But fear not, fellow fans of "oh, this could be good!" TV, because Starz has Torchwood: Miracle Day. The newest trailer for the program has hit the Web, and believe me when I say, "This could be good!"

Me too...No Starz channel for us...will wait I guess, No choice...but I think there's enough other good ones to keep me passified. Maybe. Waiting for Being Human to come back , and Merlin...Too bad Dead Like Me isn't on anymore...catch it from time to time, re-runs on Scy Fy channel...yeah, what happened to BBC? Figured they would pick up "The Torch"...I'm a 70 year old Sci Fi nut...I forgot to "grow up". Much to my kids delight, and dissmay.

It is going to be good. As a pre-amble to this, please watch the previous season, "Torchwood: Children of Earth", which was quite spectacular. One of the best things I've ever seen on TV. And this new season, with additional writers from BSG and Buffy, is most likely going to be better.

Love Torchwood and Dr. Who, etc. But, i don't subsribe to Starz. Guess I will have to wait until it comes to mainstream cable or satellite. I, too, am wondering why not BBC(A)??? Welcome back, Captain Jack. I, too will miss the cast who were killed off. Do we at least get Gwen? LOL

Well heck the Torchwood video does not play:
"Torchwood S4 - Acce..."
This video is no longer available due to a copyright claim by Starz Media LLC.
Sorry about that.

And why does TV.Com require a sign in for every comment, this is the ONLY web site I go to that does not keep the info so sign is in quick and painless.

Looks good, hopefully the Americans don't screw it up. Not tryin to insult anyone but they do have a record of screwing up British shows, let's not forget the atrocity that was the Doctor Who Movie. But then again, how can you go wrong with Captain Jack :)

I started watching TW before Doctor Who as well. Now I like both and even the Sarah Jane Aventures (RIP Lizzy) I actually \watch the New Who since the 2005 series in a week to catch up on the series. Maybe they finally find TorchWood 4 lol

YES!!! torchwood is so awesome. actually watched TW before doctor who. now i'm a huge fan of both

"New" doesn't equal "great." Capt Jack and Gwen as the only remnants from Torchwood? Oy. Guess that means heart-wrenching 'denial of the one true love', longing sighs, and long, melodramatic looks are on order, not to mention ranting, flailing hands speeches. Poor Rhys. Putting them in America isn't the problem, it's that those two don't make it Torchwood for me. Killing off Owen, Tosh, and Ianto killed Torchwood pretty dang well.

@writerpatrick......American tv writers got their hands on Doctor Who and what we got was an abysmal tv movie that was nothing like Doctor Who should be. @VConn.....what's with the sadly after Torchwood belongs to the BBC? Its a joint venture between STARZ and the BBC so no its NOT an original STARZ production.

Oh and if you can't get that video to play because you're not in the US I have 3 letters for you to get around the problem - VPN

So excited for this series can't wait, I can't understand why people hvae a problem with STARZ claiming TWMD is their original production - IT IS, If you haven't noticed BBC spent 6 months after CoE basically pretending TORCHWOOD didn't exist and they would still be doing that if STARZ hadn't agreed to foot the bill, TORCHWOOD belongs to BBC(Sadly) but TWMD IS a STARZ Original production. Either way Captain Jack is back so YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!

Gwen: "I'm Welsh...". :p (I like her.)
I've got a feeling that - unlike The UnRapture - the BBC/Starz production of Torchwood: Miracle Day is gonna be good.
I mourned the end of the original brilliant series, so I'm remaining hopeful regarding this one.
In just two words...
"Captain Jack".

Oooh! I can't wait Cap'n Jack Harkness is back!!!! Yay. Not so much on the Gwen. Also, what's up with Starz claiming it's their own original series? BBC had it first!

I'm sure it will be good. After all, just look at what the US did with Dr. Who. :)

It looks ok. I'm not happy that Gwen is in it, I was hoping just Captain Jack would make it into the new series.

@staind47: It's really a reboot for the series, I think you'll be able to jump right in. And I expect there will be a bit of backstory for folks who haven't seen the show before. Having said that, all 3 previous seasons are on Blu-ray and DVD. . .you still have time to catch up ;-)

Looks cool. Is it something I can watch even if I've never seen the previous incarnations though?

We knew that it was going to be different than before. Not only with it being set in America, but with the fact that the storyline has changed and evolved. Jack and Gwen are the only remaining members of the team left, The hub has been destroyed and the British Government has turned its back on the team. The show is still Torchwood, but it is a new and evolved version that has borught it global.

Yes, it looks glitzier, but just because it's Americanized doesn't automatically mean it's going to be terrible. The original creators are still involved, and without Starz, who knows if we would have gotten another season anyway. Have some faith. Children of Earth certainly proved that this miniseries format works better for Torchwood, and Jack and Gwen are still the same Jack and Gwen. Who says it can't be more international but still feel like Torchwood? Maybe not the same exact show, but not an ENTIRELY different one either.

I'm very excited about it, do not care if it's situated in Cardiff or the US!

i don't get why people keep saying it's "too american". of course it's not going to be exactly the same. did anybody read the plot? it's going to take place in america. maybe other places too. not just in Cardiff like the first three seasons. plus not to mention Starz had some input too i'm sure, not just BBC. i think it still looks good, and yes it looks maybe not as good but that's not because of it being "American", it's because it's season 4 and they had to find something else to do lol

It doesn't feel like Torchwood anymore... I'm going to watch it anyways, but I'm no longer excited about it
