Totally Tubular April 7, 2016: The True Crime Boom, Fear The Walking Dead, The Detour, and More (PODCAST)

You guys, true crime is SO HOT right now. With every network, channel, and streaming platform trying to cash in on the success of Making a Murderer and The People v. O.J. Simpson, we figured that Totally Tubular shouldn't fall behind the times. From now on, this podcast will discuss only the truest of crimes: those against the good taste of TV viewers. In this week's episode, we discuss the backlash to The Walking Dead, preview a bunch of new stuff, and predict other crimes likely to be adapted into event series in the next 18 months (including one that came true just a few hours later). Also, Tim does an unbelievable Andrew Dice Clay impression (editor's note: not sure that is true).

With yesterday's announcement that Girlfriend's Guide to whatever the fuck this show is called was renewed for 45 more seasons, do you anticipate this becoming a trend? Like, as every year has more scripted shows on air than the year before, until this bubble bursts, do you foresee writers and producers scrambling to ensure their shows stay on the air by doing this?

Why do you think today's culture is obsessed with spoilers and needing to know/see almost everything before it's released? I've never understood the point of watching something when you know exactly what's going to happen. Also, after a TV series airs its first episode, do you think it's really necessary to show a preview for the rest of the season?

It is downright criminal that you have not read WWZ, please do so asap. The movie was absolute shit, but there were only maybe 3 small elements of the book used in the movie. One of my favorite books of all time. Enjoy :D

Game of silence = Sleepers. 1996 film with Billy Krudup playing a young lawyer who comes home and is forced to confront a childhood trauma sustained at the hands of his juvy prison guards - led by Kevin Bacon. Brad Pitt and Ron Eldard play the two friends who stayed behind and took up a life of crime. Robert de Niro is the local priest who serves as Krudup's conscience. The group sets out to enact their revenge on those who have done them wrong. I mean really? If they're going to steal someone else's work, at least give them credit for it!!

From 2012 - sleepers came 16 years before the Turkish "original". Complete rip-off.

I'm not bothered, haven't seen the film and don't intend to watch the Turkish or US show in question

But if it means a lot to you, sorry you're offended - but you gotta admit that originality is very lacking in tv these days

Look at The 100 for example - a complete mishmash of LOST and BSG - with teen drama thrown into the mix
