True Blood: Maryann's true form... revealed!

Sookie is reading your dirty mind.

(Note: This article discusses Sunday's episode of True Blood and is littered with spoilers -- read at your own risk!) Oh Maryann -- you first appeared on True Blood as a mysterious woman wandering the road with a pig, and have turned into the most kick-ass party thrower in Cajun country. But after watching your final scene in Sunday's episode, we'll be deleting your Evites.

The second-most stunning revelation in "Shake and Fingerpop" was finding out what Maryann really is -- though to get the full answer, you'll have to do a bit of research or read the second book in The Southern Vampire Mysteries (True Blood's source material). When Maryann does her shaky-shaky-vibrate thing at the end of the episode, her hands turn to three-fingered claws -- the same claws that dug into Sookie in episode three.

Michelle Forbes, who plays Maryann, has confirmed that her character is the bull-headed monster that freaked us out two weeks ago.

"I am maenad," Forbes says in an interview with TVGuide (don't worry if you don't what a maenad is). From Greek mythology, a maenad is a female follower of Dionysus (Bacchus in Roman mythology) that basically spends all its time inciting madness and drunken revelry -- much like nickel beer night at Wisconsin sports bars. However, maenads aren't exactly all about fun. They've been known to rip animals to shreds in during orgies of violent decadence.

Despite that, Forbes says her character isn't intentionally a bad person. Maenads simply pursue intense emotions -- from the shiver of a side-splitting orgasm to the satisfaction of numbed knuckles from a well-placed left hook. This explains how the fiesta at Sookie's went from bumping and grinding to street-fighting and gluttony.

As mentioned before, Maryann's secret identity was only the second biggest reveal of the episode. The first? That Sookie isn't the only mind reader in town. The young bellhop at the vampire hotel and Sookie did a little Jedi Mind conversing, at which point Bobby -- as I believe his name was -- bolted down the hallway and left us awaiting the next episode.

Bloody good stuff.

I love the show. I think it will be really interesting to see Sookie and Barry work together to find Godrick. I agree I think Tara needs to see her true surroundings.

I want some more! I want some more! I want some more! I want Jason away from that sick church. I want Lafayette back to work. I want Sam to stay in town. I want Sookie and Barry to find Godrick. I want Tara' eyes to be opened to her true surroundings. I just want more of Bill and Eric. I want Jessica back with Hoyt, her true love.

It's Barry -- not Bobby and if Alan Ball stays true to his character (spoiler alert) he's going to be very needed in the final episodes this season.

Yeah it's Barry and he was awesome! I cant wait for next weeks, mainly because I know whats going to happen and I didn't think they were going to write Barry into the story. He is prob the best bit in the second book.Oh and Eric for the win. Last season it was all Bill, this season its all man aka Eric.

I thought it was a nice twist having her scratch Sookie because she didn't like the idea of Tara leaving her, rather than just scratching her to send Eric a message (which is how its done in the book). The show changes things to make everything more personalized and character oriented, while still having the same overall arc of the book, which I think is brilliant.

I read all the Stackhouse books, as I guess we all did by now, and Im pleased to see that the series develops new characters, deepens some that the books barely mention (great job, Lafayette!) and slightly changes the storyline. Otherwise it would be a boring book illustration and, to my taste, we’ve been served too much of that. Makes me thing of The Hours: the book and the film complemented each other brilliantly. So does True Blood.
