You may not agree with everything I write about True Blood. In fact, those of you who can get through the first paragraph of my nonsensical ramblings deserve a merit badge. But one thing I hope we can agree on is this: True Blood is a better show--well maybe that's not the word for it--let's say more enjoyable show, when it pushes the envelope.
Some may say True Blood is nothing more than a blood-spattered Skinemax softcore porn flick that really tests one's measure of what we consider decency. They wouldn't be entirely wrong. True Blood's harsh language, sex, and gore--all present in abundance--are essential parts of the True Blood universe and what make it a success. Could you imagine the show without them? I just did, and it sucked.
So how did I come to be so entertained by the first 45 minutes of True Blood, which featured no sex, no gore, hardly anything vampire-y or werewolfish, and only a few F-bombs? It was mature, grown-up, emotional television and actually reminded me a lot of creator Alan Ball's previous work Six Feet Under, in that it was about personal relationships coming to a head. Scene after scene, things were on the line and the drama was thick. All without shedding any blood (though plenty of tears were shed--it may have been a record for crying in an episode), showing any hardcore sex, and baring fangs. For the first 45 minutes of "Night on the Sun," True Blood wasn't a supernatural show at all; it was simply character drama. And a good one, at that.
And while that alone would have made me very content with "Night on the Sun," it was as if the show pulled a Sookie and read my mind--my dirty, filthy, blood-crazed mind. Because the last fifteen minutes of the episode turned the naughty dial up so fast my mother could feel me blushing. Graphic heterosexual grinding, near-graphic homosexual sex, gushing blood (not related to the sex, thankfully), naked people gnawing on something, and vampire-versus-werewolf ass-kickery drenched the final quarter of the episode like a bucket falling from the ceiling, and it was AWESOME.
Just as the previous 45 minutes let us know that these characters of Bon Temps have "normal" people problems and emotions, the final 15 minutes smacked us upside the face and reminded us that we're watching the bloody, punchy, sexy True Blood. In case we forgot.
Other Bloody Good Notes:
... Sookie to Alcide: "If I knew what was best for me I would have fallen in love with someone like you." And so continues Sookie's sluttiness! You go, girl!... I'm not sure how old sookie is, but isn't she a little too old to be keeping a photo scrapbook of her boyfriend?
... "Oh poor Talbot. Are your diamond slippers chaffing?" I'll miss Talbot, who brought some great sass to the show.
... Jessica and Bill's fighting practice may be one of the cooler things this show has ever done. If they can pull that off, can't they give us an epic Eric-and-Bill-versus-Russell fight to close this season out?
... Speaking of Russell, did he just... fly?
... And lots of credit to Stephen Moyer, who has really come through this season as an actor. I wouldn't be sad if his name came up during next year's Emmy talk.
True Blood Season 3 Power Rankings
Wherein I rank this season's episodes of True Blood.
"Night on the Sun": This episode started out as a critically acclaimed drama before pulling the sheet off and delivering everything True Blood is known for. Keeping the two parts separate really worked and left us all wanting more, more, more.
1. (tie) "Trouble" Ep. 5
Franklin proposes to Tara, Jason meets Crystal, and Sookie shoots blue stuff out of her hands.
1. (tie) "Night on the Sun" Ep. 8
Eric gives Talbot the double entendre stabbing from behind, Bill and Jessica fight werewolves, and Sookie and Bill grind.
3. "It Hurts Me Too" Ep. 3
Where we first meet Alcide and Bill writes a painful new page of the Kama Sutra.
4. "Beautifully Broken" Ep. 2
Where we are introduced to Nazi Werewolves and Bill is recruited by the Vampire King of Mississippi.
5. "9 Crimes" Ep. 4
Where Sookie and Alcide head to Lou Pine's and meet Debbie and the Magister busts Eric for selling V.
6. "Hitting the Ground" Ep. 7
Goodbye to Lorena and the Magister, and Sookie visits Fairy land in her coma.
7. "I Got a Right to Sing the Blues" Ep. 6
Where Lorena tortures Bill, Russell and Eric visit Sophie-Anne, and Sookie almost escapes.
8. "Bad Blood" Ep. 1
The season premiere.
True Blood Boob Count!
Wherein I tally the number of scenes in which sets of bare breasts are unnecessarily put on display. Because I can.Season Total: It was looking like we were going to stick at 10 until the final minute, when we got even more than we asked for. Wowza. Don't let your kids watch. 11 for the season.
Question of the day:
Should Sookie have taken Debbie Pelt out when she had the chance?

i realy dont like thizz show it really *** wit ppl head 2much blood and may b if it wazz juzz a movie buh 4real a tv show cum on now
This show is better than staring at the wall. It certainly would give stargate universe a run for it's money. Makes about as much sense.
On the flying. All vampires are not supposed to be able to fly. They all have a special thing that is unique to them. For Eric, it's flying. For Sophie Ann, it's keeping her children with her. In the books Eric likes women, though he is familiar with what a man may want as his maker was male and made him for ... well, if we were a vampire interested in men, wouldn't we. But he didn't like it all that much. Eric did use his knowledge here to catch Talbot off guard.
So enjoyed this episode. I have read all 10 books and still like the different approach that Allan Ball has taken with the TV version. Very impressed with the acting of Debbie Pelt and Russell characters. Way to go Eric. AS is an incredible actor and able to pull off a believable scene. Still waiting for Eric and Sookie match up. Bill just has to go be the wayside a bit.
All Episode isAmazing andExiting.. hope you alway Update the True Blood..I hate to miss 1 Episode of True Blood...More power to TV.com..thanks for sharing the Latest Episodehttp://enginecheat-neco.blogspot.com
Uumm... True Blood without all the nudity and violence would NOT be True Blood!!However, I could have enjoyed my life just fine without ruining my image of Eric.. him humping some other dude.. Just.. ICK!!!As to Russell flying.. all ancient vampires can fly. Eric can. He's around 1,000. And Russell is around 3,000.. so I'm sure flying is in their bag of tricks.
I am loving the scenes with Anna Paquin and Britt Morgan. Britt Morgan's awesome complete white trash Debbie Pelt is something this show needs. Its pure gold every scene they have together. So no, Sookie needs Debbie around to they can continue to beat each other around with regularity. Oh and "Entourage" sucks.
Frankly I'm just happy you ain't hating on True Blood like you are on Entourage. Agree with the review completely though.
It was decent ep, but the whole Sookie & Tara thing is just ridiculous at this point. I mean why are they even friends when they can't talk to each other for more than five minutes without exploding estrogen all over each other? Aside from that I really liked the ep and I absolutely adored Alfre Woodard as Lafayette's mom. She had the standout line of the night with her rant about television shows (now we know how Lafayette built such a colorful way of speaking).
It was the first episode this season where I felt that we came back to season 2 quality. I've missed this kind of True Blood. Though I do think Debbie should've died, somehow, if not necessarily by Sookie's hand.
@FanforFun: it's not odd time, buddy - it's DAYTIME. Vampires in this universe cannot stay awake during the day without blood coming out of their facial orifices. When Eric was talking to the caged queen, she was bleeding too. And remember season two, when Bill was trapped by Lorena in that hotel room? They were both bleeding too. It was mentioned before, so maybe you didn't pay attention or maybe you've forgot about it... so here's a reminder.
It was my favourite episode of this season so far! I loved the deep character drama, you were right to compare it with SFU. Excellently written and acted. Of course I also loved what I started to call the 'True Blood hardcore'. The mix of drama, character developement and potentially trashy, but always cool sex-blood-ugly murder thingies has always been a hook for me.
That and Eric. ;)
I really felt sorry for Talbot, he was a lot of fun and had great chemistry with Eric. I wonder what the sick dude will be up to next week :D
This was an amazing episode! Jessica is baack and kicking butt. There were even a few scenes in this episode that made me like Bill more. Poor Tablot he will be misssed but theres no way he could have turned down Eric he was doomed from the start. Yay it looks like we get Franklin back next week :D
Somebody pleeeaasssee tell me why blood keeps on running out Erics ears at odd times ???
And are we absolutely sure that Franklyn is dead - brain matter on the sheets was mentioned - but some of them seem to be able to recover from the most gruesome injuries.
I recomend people to read those shouthern vampire mysteries books, way way better than this series (though i love true blood :D) and Vampires have different skills (nothing to do with their age) some can fly ,some can speak to their minions with mind, etc etc ..and sookie should have killed deppie pelt (like she did in the books, self defense though)But after reading the books it some what made this series bit duller, the books has way more better story lines in my opinion and i like the books characters more.Just like claudine shes all wrong :( AND i want to see more of Pam shes one of my fave characters on the books !
Trueblood the series by far eclipses the Sookie Stackhouse series of books. While the story lines still have threads of commonality, the series has bettered the books 1 dimensional character perspective by adding in great backgrounds and character development.Sam the Alpha... in the books only the first born could shift. Many of the characters still alive, Hadley, Lafaette. Should Sookie have killed Debbie Pelt... no, it would be better if Jason did it, then they could even up the body count a bit. A give it up for the personal trainers on that show, don't they do an awesome job keeping those guys and gals in tip top condition...
I do not doubt HBO.
Eric can fly, why shouldn't Russel?
yay 11, finally!
I don't think Bill and Eric together could defeat Russell... it wouldn't make sense due to the king's age.I think that maybe this "authority" may come to some kind of rescue of to settle things down. This episode was the best one, in my opinion, in this season.
yup Russell flew as did Eric last season.. anyway great episode! And what do you think those rednecks are? shapeshifters like Sam and Tommy? or something entirely different? We'll find out next week I guess.
I was amazed by Russell's acting skills , I think the actor should get a nomination next year for best guest star . Alexander for best supporting actor , the show for best Drama . In general the show and the cast should get more nominations , they're doing a great job , the show is unique unlike the other vampire shows which are boring teen-fan based . I feel this show is a real adult vampire show which its not for kids and I love it :) btw I hate twilight it sucks and the actors are ugly .
"Should Sookie have taken Debbie Pelt out when she had the chance?" ofc not !! where would the fun be in that? "Speaking of Russell, did he just... fly? " ye, some vampires can fly. Eric can too btw.
This episode was really good . The best scenes were : Eric's revenge and Bill & Jessica's training . Sookie is getting too annoying and she's a hoe lol I bet at the end of the story she will be sleeping with every single creature on the show .I was very disturbed by the sex scenes between Moyer and Anna . omg I know they are in relationship off scream but jesus christ they should have kept doing their shyt in their home for god's sake . I think they showed too much detailed-sex they should have reduced that .and I don't want to see her freakin nipples god dammit HIDE UR NIPPLES EWW !! I don't know how Moyer date her in real life while their exposing too much sex&nipples on the show -.- .back on topic , Yes FINALLY ACTION!! I loved the fighting scenes I think the show lack the action and they need more action dose on the show . Alexander once again proved how much he is talented , brave for doing the gay sex scene and hot . I think Eric should get more screen time i just love him . I'm glad that Tera got rid off the creepy Franklyn ,I love Tera her character is getting much better & intersting. I nearly was gonna vomit on Jesus&Laffayette's kissing scene :x I kept my eye closed it was gross =.= .But still I love the show despite all the heavy dose of sex and gayness that i dislike xDmoreless
PLEASE do not refer to Sookie as a slut, when she's speaking of falling in love, and Jason is busy DOING the upteen girl who has swayed her shoulders, and barely said hello to him. Geez, you men!
First 45 minutes were extremely boring and reminded me why Sookie is the most annoying character in the show. Also the same boring argument between Tara and Sookie happens about once every other episode. "Bill is bad for you Sookie!".. "I can make my own decision's Tara!". More Vampires less humans. Can't wait for Eric Vs. Russell.
Apparently only older vampires can fly. Russell and Eric and probably Godric could have as well. Maybe we will see a Russell/Eric mid air battle.
Both Moyer and Paquin got to "act" in this episode...among other things...and the frenzy of the ending left me going..."wha?..." when the credits started rolling. Yup, it was that good...
This episode was intensely awesome. Absolutely loved it! In my opinion probably the best episode this season. Sookie, Jessica, and Bill were bad-ass! Hope Alcide comes back soon
BTW, am I the only one feeling uncomfortable watching Moyer and Paquin 'doing it'? Yeah, they're faking... but it's not as if they would 'do it' that much differently in their private life! Watching those two go at it makes me feel like a Peeping Tom!
Allo, Tim: vampires can fly in this show. We've all learn that LAST SEASON with Eric. If the viking can fly... well of course an older vampire could - get with it bro! And yeah, Debbie's gonna problem done the line, but I think Alcine will be the final solution.
