True Blood's Lafayette Gets a Mom

...This sounds intriguing. Showtime has tapped Gosford Park screenwriter Jullian Fellowes to write a script for The Vanderbilts, a a period series about the famed American dynasty that made its fortune with railroads in the 1800s. The show would focus mainly on patriarch Cornelius Vanderbilt, the man who made all the loot. Not much about the Gilded Age—when an American royalty began to emerge during the Second Industrial Revolution—has been done in TV or film recently, so I think it could be pretty fascinating. And Fellowes is a great choice to write the thing. [Variety]

...Ohhh fun. Alfre Woodard, who was just cast in that TNT pilot Delta Blues, has been enlisted to guest on True Blood as Lafayette's mom. Pretty neat casting, if you ask me. [THR]

...The beleaguered Parenthood, delayed by reshoots after Maura Tierney bowed out of a lead role for health reasons and was replaced by Lauren Graham, has finally set its premiere date. The based-on-the-movie dramedy will debut on March 1st, up against the also lady-friendly Dancing with the Star. NBC hopes that a big marketing campaign during the Winter Olympics, which women watch because of figure skating I guess, will give the show the strong premiere it needs. I'd be more excited about the show if Tierney was still involved. Now? Meh. [Variety]

...After getting record high ratings for its shocking and death-filled season finale, Dexter has suffered another fatality. This time it comes from behind the scenes, as showrunner Clyde Phillips has decided to bow out. Apparently his family lives in Connecticut, and he didn't like being so far away in LA. So, he'll be replaced by a producer from 24. Hmm. Strange time to change captains, but hopefully the switch won't detrimentally affect the show. [THR]

...Callie Khouri, who wrote the screenplay for Thelma & Louise, has been asked by Fox to write a pilot called The Real Amanda Strauss, about a detective who, unbeknownst to her colleagues, is from a family of con artists. Khouri is writing the script with The Cleaner writer and avid blogger, apparently Angelina Burnett. [Variety]

...Nick Cannon is basically doing everything in Hollywood that no one else wants to do. Like develop project for TeenNick and go on the radio. Good on you, boy. [THR]

Lafayette gets a mommy, well who's your daddy? Oh wait, did I want to really ask that of THAT particular character he's playing? lol Nick Cannon-- {sigh} Was billed as "the Next Will Smith", but is so childish that he never was taken seriously. Now, he's only doing kids stuff, and playing the role of a child husband to old woman Mariah Carey. Poor guy, doing ALL the jobs no self respecting man would ever do.

Alfre Woodard will be fabulous as "Lafayette's" mother, especially given the characteristics she (the role) is purported to have... great casting! And I hope the role is a substantial one...

Damn I'm a tad worried about Clyde leaving. No offense to 24 fans or anything but Dexter has better writers, and isn't about cookie cutter cotton candy writing. Lets hope this doesn't bite us in the butt later.
