Several of you probably cleared schedules last night in order to sit down with a brand-spanking new episode of HBO's True Blood, only to find out that the network opted to skip a week and air repeats instead. Boy, that sucked, didn't it? But instead of sinking your teeth into the cable box, you probably happily rewatched what HBO offered up -- the first three episodes of season two.
And after two episodes that spent a little too much time with stilted dialogue to catch people up on last season (they were still good, but yes Bill, we know you and Suckie -- excuse me, Sookie -- are mad for each other), last week's episode "Scratches" brought the show back to form splendidly and really set up what's in store for the season. Things are approaching climaxes quickly, with Tara on the verge of discovering what Mary Anne is all about, Lafayette out of the basement, and Sam getting ready for a very interesting late-night dip with Daphne.
But the scene-stealer from "Scratches" was new vamp Jessica. She entered Merlotte's with carefully placed makeup, a "pay attention to me" dress, and her fiery hair done up in dollish curls -- her vampire's thirst a hearty metaphor for a woman coming of age. Jessica's scene with Hoyt not only re-emphasized what I've been telling my friends all along (that Deborah Ann Woll is a remarkable actress), but gave us television's most adorable new couple. Admit it -- you'd watch a Jessica/Hoyt spinoff until your eyes bled.
Let's review where everyone is so far:
--Sam and Scratchy, err, Daphne: Sam is quickly becoming a personal favorite -- he had the tendency to be a stick-in-the-mud in season one, but he's really coming into his own. But one piece of advice for him: stay clear of Daphne!
--The Fellowship of the Sun and Jason: Jason's storyline is also getting better after sputtering out of the gate, and Ryan Kwanten's portrayal of the dim-witted stud gets better every week... subtle yet absolutely hilarious. How long before Jason gets his mitts on Sarah, the Reverend's wife? Also, Michael McMillian deserves some applause for his work as Rev. Steve.
--Tara and Mary Anne, the whatever she is:Tara looks like she's ready to leave Mary Anne's compound, and we think the sooner the better. Also, no chance am I trusting Eggs. Get out while you can, Tara! Ditto for you Andy Bellefleur -- just turn around and walk away -- no matter how many bare-chested ladies are milling about.
--Tough Luck Lafayette: Good to see Lafayette out of the Fangtasia dungeon, but if you think he's out of the weeds just yet, think again. Poor guy has had a rough start to the season -- it's been a while since we've seen the Lafayette of old, flippin' burgers and shakin' that ass.
--Erik, the best-dressed vampire in town: Erik continues to be king of dry one-liners, and whoever decided he needed highlights and put him in that tracksuit deserves some sort of award. "Your human is getting cocky." Good stuff.
--Terry the enigma: Still not sure what to think about Terry, but something is eating at him.
--Sookie and Bill: Why are Bill and Sookie, the show's two central characters, also the least interesting?
--The big question: Why does Bill own a Wii?
We've already seen episode four, and you can expect a cameo from one our favorite Breaking Bad actors, a sizzling scene with Sarah that leaves us hot and bothered, and a little bit of a peek at what Mary Anne really is. Plus more mayhem, obviously.
How are you liking True Blood so far?

I LOVE Bill & Sookie together. I enjoy the pairing of Hoyt and Jessica and I find Erik funny and frustrating all at the same time. True Blood is an awesome show!
The theme is "Bad Things" by Jace Everett.
I love True Blood, too. But I want Sookie and Erik together. In the book their live a romance. In Brazil everbory love.
True Bloo é uma série maravilhosa e está fazendo sucesso no Brasil também.
My guess is that Mary Anne is a succubus.
True Blood is a violent, sexy mystery show. It is based on the novels by Charlaine Harris, but Alan Ball and his writers have added their own spin to the stories. The cast is good. If the writers continue to do a good job, True Blood will become one of the greatest TV series ever!
I absolutely love the opening music of the show. Does anyone know what the name of it is and who sings it???
I agree Rosebud.....yum, yum... no pun intended...LOL
I love True Blood! And Alexander Skarsgård is fantastic as Eric!

I don't know if Deborah Ann Woll is a good actress or not, but she could bite me anytime she wanted.
This is definitely one of my favorite shows of all time. I'm glad they didn't make it all about the love story and turn it into twilight. I love Sookie, Anna is amazing, this is the character that Rogue should have been like.
why does everybody hate anna paquin so much. she's perfect for the role
I agree with why Bill owns a Wii and I would like to see some more staying true to the books and see some Sookie/Eric action. One thing I do not understand is , why does everyone hate Anna Paquin in this role? The books centered around the fact that although Sokkie was a bit "Backwoods" she was telepathic and that gave her tremendous insight as well as power. I do not think Anna would have won an award for Best Actress in A Drama Series if she was so terrible. I think they cast her perfectly in this role. She really does remind me exactly of the Sookie in the books .
I love the show the only thing I don't like is the casting of Sookie! WHY her?!
I love all the characters and where their individual stories are heading. I thought LOST was the best TV series until TRUE BLOOD came along. Kudos to the writers and actors. I'm "thirsty" for more!!!
I agree with Meg_z10.. Mary Anne may the Circe. Should give more part to other vampire stories. Such as Eric! And also Sookie seems so stupid as the character.
True Blood SUX!!
... so soooo good..!
I'm a fang for sure...
I love it! I think Terry might be some kind of "Seer", maybe unexperienced, sometimes he sees things other people dont. he sometimes says things that makes it seam like he knows more than he lets on. (then again I might be imagining it)
I love the way that the story is not focusing just on "Sookie & Bill". That love affair was interesting at the beginning but now it's kind of getting boring.
I'm really excited to find out what happens with Tara and Mary Anne. If i had to make a guess to what exactly Mary Anne is, I would have to say she resembles Circe, the Goddess of witchcraft from Greek Mythology. In book 10 of the Odyssey Circe tempts Odysseus's with food and luxury only to turn them into pigs...(sounds failure?) =P
Dirk, I think Terry's character is supposed to be having some kind of PTSD from the IRAQ War. I'd imagine he would have been about 10 years old during the Gulf War.
I love this show, almost too much, but have to admit since the start of season two, that I pretty much focus on whats happening to/with "ERIC" (Skarsgard is fabulous), "Lafayette", "Jessica" and less so, "Bill", "Sookie" and "Pam".
I can't get into the "Maryann" story at all, and that Church Lady is making me nauseous; hence, so is "Jason"!
I love Eric and the Jessica and Hoyt paring I also really like Sookie and Bill not sure why everyone hates her but she is the character that I imagined when I read the books, and I can't wait for old lafayette to come back. The things I don't like the brainwashing crazy fellowship of the sun people I hope Jason figures that out soon I am sick of them, and Mary Anne she is just so evil and I hope Tara figures that too!
I agree w/ Mafia1976. She's horrible as sookie and the most interesting characters of the show are jason, lafayette, and eric
Great show, but Sookie as an actress definitely SUCKS.
True Blood is good
XO XO
:):):):)
I loved Scratches, that monster was freaky! But, did they turn Lafayette into a vampire now?
"everal of you probably cleared schedules last night in order to sit down with a brand-spaking new episode of HBO's True Blood". Ummmm unless we have DVR's like a very large growing segment of HBO watchers may now have?"The big question: Why does Bill own a Wii? "Are you kidding? He's a vampire, he never gets to go outside during the day, that means no golf (the one game you seem him playing during season one)."Still not sure what to think about Terry, but something is eating at him." Of course there is, the same thing that has been eating at him since the show established it, he has a shell shock syndrome of sorts from being in the Gulf War and it makes him a bit twitchy and unnerved, he's talked about it before."Admit it -- you'd watch a Jessica/Hoyt spinoff until your eyes bled. " hmmmm, no I don't think I would admit it, because I wouldn't watch that. Jessica did quickly become a very interesting character and her meeting up with Hoyt was a very "oh snap!" moment, but a series starring them? no thanks, especially because of Hoyt (who is a good supporting character and all, but nothing worth being a central story point for too long).moreless
"--Sookie and Bill: Why are Bill and Sookie, the show's two central characters, also the least interesting?"Because Anna Paquin is fugly
Absolutely addicted. Can't wait for next week!
This is a great show. Great great great great ENTERTAINING show. I never know where the time goes watching it. I could almost watch it all day.
Last night was supposed to be the highlight of my week. I think the Jessica/Hoyt couple is the best coupling I have seen on TV in a long time. And that isn't because I have a heart-on for Deborah Ann Woll. Sunday can't come fast enough!
True blood doesn't come fast enough. I want more now!
