TV.com's 2010 Emmy Predictions

In anticipation of Emmy awards, two TV.com staffers, Stefanie Lee and Ilana Diamond cast their own ballots and placed high stake bets on who ought to win and who they think actually will on Sunday night.

Outstanding Drama Series

Stefanie
Should Win: Dexter
Will win: Mad Men
Season 4 of Dexter was magnificent, terrifying, emotional television—but the Emmys haven't been able to get enough of Mad Men over the past few years.

Ilana
Should Win: Breaking Bad
Will win: Breaking Bad
The third season was quite possibly the best season in the history of television.

Outstanding Actor in a Dramatic Series

Stefanie
Should Win: Michael C. Hall, Dexter
Will win: Michael C. Hall, Dexter
You all should know by now that I'm obsessed with Michael C. Hall.

Ilana
Should Win: Bryan Cranston, Breaking Bad
Will win: Bryan Cranston, Breaking Bad
Fly episode. Enough said.

Actress in a Dramatic Series

Stefanie
Should Win: Connie Britton, Friday Night Lights
Will win: Julianna Margulies, The Good Wife
C-Britt is way past due for an Emmy for her work as Tami Taylor, but it's common knowledge that FNL never gets any love. In all fairness, J-Marg has been doing some solid work on The Good Wife.

Ilana
I'm in total agreement with Stef on this one. I love me some Tami Taylor but the appeal of Alicia Florrick seems to more be far-reaching.

Supporting Actor in a Dramatic Series

Stefanie
Should Win: John Slattery, Mad Men
Will win: Michael Emerson, Lost
No one delivers a one-liner (or wears a three-piece suit) like Slattery. But Lost might get some love in this category in the form of Emerson or even Terry O'Quinn, who is also nominated.

Ilana
Should Win: Aaron Paul, Breaking Bad
Will win: John Slattery, Mad Men
I love both of these performers, but I was floored by Aaron Paul's range. I'm betting though that no one can resist the John Slattery charm.

Supporting Actress in a Dramatic Series

Stefanie
Should Win: Christina Hendricks, Mad Men
Will win: Elisabeth Moss, Mad Men
I wish Hendricks would win because she is absolutely mesmerizing, but the prize will probably go to Moss because she is in more scenes, or something.

Ilana
Should Win: Elisabeth Moss, Mad Men
Will win: Elisabeth Moss, Mad Men
Agreed that there is no one like Christina Hendricks, but Elisabeth Moss' subtle performance as a woman staking her claim was so fantastic, that I've got to give her my vote on both counts.

Outstanding Comedy Series

Stefanie
Should Win: Modern Family
Will win: Glee
I'm not even sure why Glee is in this category—it's funny at times, but it's more often heartwrenching. Modern Family is the clear standout, but the world is wearing Glee goggles right now.

Ilana
Should Win: 30 Rock
Will win: Modern Family
30 Rock (and anything Tina Fey) will always have my vote, but everybody is just crazy about Modern Family.

Actor in a Comedy Series

Stefanie
Should Win: Jim Parsons, Big Bang Theory
Will win: Alec Baldwin, 30 Rock
Parsons is hysterical. Baldwin is forever.

Ilana
Should Win: Alec Baldwin, 30 Rock
Will win: Steve Carell, The Office
I've just got a feeling that the Academy will feel inclined to award Steve Carrell before he leaves the show.

Actress in a Comedy Series

Stefanie
Should Win: Toni Collette, United States of Tara
Will win: Edie Falco, Nurse Jackie
Toni Collette plays, like, twenty characters, so she just does more work than everyone else. But Edie Falco does deserve some major props for her comedic side, too. She is more than just Carmela Soprano.

Ilana
Should Win: Tina Fey, 30 Rock
Will win: Lea Michele, Glee
Both talented ladies, in both very different ways. The Emmy will go to Lea Michele though cause she is a totally new kind of talent on TV.

Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series

Stefanie
Should Win: Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Modern Family
Will win:Ty Burrell, Modern Family
I love the subtle hilarity of Ferguson's performance as Mitchell Pritchett. But it's hard to compete with Phil Dunphy, yo.

Ilana
Should Win: Chris Colfer, Glee
Will win: Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Modern Family
Chris Colfer as Kurt is just perfect but someone from Modern Family has to win from that ensemble cast.

Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series

Stefanie
Should Win: Kristen Wiig, Saturday Night Live
Will win: Jane Lynch
Kristen Wiig is the only reason anyone still watches SNL. Jane Lynch, however, is a sure thing.

Ilana
Same as Stef's! While I love both of these ladies, I really do think Kristen Wiig's Lawrence Welk tiny baby hands brilliance ought to be acknowledged. Though as a long time Jane Lynch fan, I'm happy that she is the obvious winner.

Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series

Stefanie
Should Win: Mad Men, Guy Walks Into An Advertising Agency
Will win: Lost, The End
I still can't get over the John Deere incident. But Lost might prevail here because, um, it ended.

Ilana
Should Win: Friday Night Lights, The Son
Will win: Mad Men, Shut The Door. Have A Seat
Tough call on this one. The FNL writers handled a raw and relevant subject with grace but the season finale of Mad Men was one of the best season-enders/cliffhangers ever.

Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series

Stefanie
Should Win: Modern Family, Pilot
Will win: Glee, Pilot

I'm still laughing about Phil Dunphy asking if Lily will be able to pronounce her name. But, again, anything that shows off Jane Lynch's badassery is a sure thing.

Ilana
Should Win: 30 Rock, Anna Howard Shaw Day
Will win: Modern Family, Pilot
Any episode that celebrates the life and message of suffragette Anna Howard Shaw and lets Jon Hamm work his West Indies accent deserves to win. But, I know, everybody just looooooves Modern Family.

What shows and actors do you want to see win on Emmy Night?

Are you kidding me? Aaron Paul beats Terry O'Quinn and Michael Emerson???? What is this world coming to. It's one thing for Cranston to win because he's the heart and soul of Breaking Bad, but anyone else is just ridiculous.

Chris Colfer should win Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series because he's fantastic.

It annoys me when I hear people saying that his scenes aren't comedic and that he's in the wrong catagory because that's not true.

He does have emotional scenes and they are phenomenal, I cry everytime he does.

But everyone seems to forget his doing single ladies in 'Preggers'! That was hilarious! Plus all of his fantastic one-liners 'It's the song, It's really gay'.

And 'I could so sing this song with Finn, but screw him if he thinks he's taking the Diana Ross solo from me'.

He's brilliant and deserves to win.

Good luck Glee!

I really think Matthew Fox or Kyle Chandler deserves an Emmy this year hands down. Both of them have been snubbed for years now they both deserve one so hopefully atleast one of them gets it.

The fact that people were absent-minded enough to nominate Glee, Modern Family, Mad Men, and Lost for anything is one of the most disheartening statements about society's idea of what good television is. Where is the love and respect for Chuck, Lie to Me, Sanctuary? Lost along with civilization's appreciation for more than a recycled and stale idea, perhaps.

I'm pretty sure Kyra Sedgwick will be bringing home her first Emmy for Best Actress in a Drama Series for her her role on The Closer. After having been nominated for the past 5 years and has never won for the amazing episodes it handed in for judging, this year her chances are higher. Sorry J-Marg..

ok im really sorry but Mad Men SUCKS!!!!!! i tried watching it ALOT but its TOO BORING!!!!!! It does nothing but congratulate the present. John Slattery is good and also aaron paul but terry o'quin and michael emerson are IN A LEAGUE OF THEIR OWN! and hello MATHEWW FOX?!?!?!?!?!?! hes been underappreciated 4 long enough this season he SHINED! im ALL 4 Lost 2 win in ALL its catagories and tv.com u r TOTAL BS'ers when Lost was on u couldnt stop obesseing over it or was it just different writers? hmm...... The Top 3 Drama Shows are 1.Lost , 2.Breaking Bad 3.True Blood and Dexter im not really sure cause i havent given it a proper watch yet but i will admit that michael c hall is amazing but again this was matthew fox's year! and im sure modern family will win best comedy series this year because even though with all the hype surrounding glee its a dramedy and its a little bit harder 4 them 2 win against 20 min sitcoms in the emmys ala Ugly Betty vs 30 Rock 2007 were Ugly Betty took home the Golden Globe and SAG , although now i hope they changed since then. p.s im ashamed not 2 see Eva Longoria Parker Or Marcia Cross or ANY Desperate Housewives Leading Lady this yr or even the SHOW instead they nominated the office which has been complete and utter crap this yr!

As much as I love Glee and as much as TV.com hates Glee, I don't think it should win best comedy. Compared to Modern Family which I love too, Glee had some miss episodes while Modern Family was very consistently funny and well done throughout the season. So go Modern Family. I also want Hugh Laurie to finally win an Emmy but Bryan Cranston will be hard to beat.

I don't care how great Glee is, I wouldn't want it to win Emmys. Jane Lynch would be acceptable, but no one else.

All shows are great but I'm hoping the OBVIOUS pick will not be overlooked, which is BREAKING BAD. The show is simply amazing and last season delivered on every level of story, characters and shocking twists. Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul are in a league of their own.

It's nice to feel like, for once, the right shows are in the lead at the Emmys. Dexter, Mad Men, or Breaking Bad winning awards would all make me very happy as they are three of the best shows on television with quality all around (in acting, writing, etc). At least in the drama category. As far as comedy, I see Glee reigning because of its massive hype and adoration from the media, but I don't think it was nearly as consistently good as Modern Family.

Breaking Bad, Mad Men and Dexter should share the cake this year, 30 Rock and The Office for comedy.

Glee falls into same category, humorous at times, but not a strict comedy! Afterall, where is the laugh track? Are these shows like Big Bang???
