TV.com's Swell-o-vision vs. Hell-o-vision (February 11)

Here's what was out of sight and just not right on TV this week.

Swell

... The Good Wife could very well be the best show on TV
This week's episode was a twisty-turny who's-scamming-whom imbroglio, where the good guys might be the bad guys, and the bad guys might not be so bad. (Except the insurance companies. They're just plain evil.)

... Mr. Sunshine's opening... thing
The pilot of this all-growed-up-Chandler-Bing starring vehicle may have left plenty of room for improvement, but we did enjoy the nearly nonexistent opening "theme."

... The reunions on last Saturday's SNL
With Dana Carvey hosting came Mike Meyers and Jon Lovitz. And hearing Phil Hartman's voice again in the introductions to the Church Lady and Wayne's World sketches was just icing on the cake.

... Antonio, Carla, and Angelo's beef tongue song on Top Chef
Not to mention the same episode's Carla/Jimmy Fallon/chicken pot pie love triangle, which originated thusly: Carla randomly chose chicken pot pie as the dish she'd be preparing for Fallon's birthday-lunch challenge. Those three little words sent her into a happiness seizure; then Jimmy tasted her dish and HE had a happiness seizure. Carla won the challenge, leading to MORE happy seizures all around, plus an appearance on Thursday's Late Night, where their seizure-ific romance continued to bloom across other NBC Universal properties.

... This Dr. Who informational poster
This ought to come in handy the next time you step into that phonebooth.

Hell

... The future of America, as foretold by Family Feud
We're all doomed! Doomed to a religion-free life of smoking marijuana! Wait, are we sure this video should be in the "Hell" section?

... The Chicago Code's voiceover
Why does every main character get to have a disembodied voice on this show?

... The Black Eyed Peas' halftime show
Did we just see a Broadway version of Tron?

... The post-Super Bowl episode of Glee
Gleeks are ashamed to call themselves Gleeks after watching that. Which is saying something.

... Alan Cumming on The Good Wife
We love Alan and we love The Good Wife. But the former's role on the latter is probably the most disappointing TV arrival since Steve Buscemi. So much wasted talent!

What made your list of loves and hates this week?

I don't know why so many people didn't like the Glee episode .. (except for the very beginning with the cheerleaders and the cones with the sparklers over their breasts .. very gratuitous) .. I thought the rest of the episode was great !!

That Family Feud video is pretty funny. Not sure why it's in the hell section. It's got to be the most entertaining thing that's happened on that show in years.

TARDIS is a police box, which is a phone box only for police use, obviously we don't still have them, the show started in the 60's.

The Superbowl singing and show was crummy. The post- episode of Glee was not that good, but the Tuesday ep was. That family feud vid is so funny! It points to "Hell", but belongs with the "Swell!"

Yeah I don't know what was s****ier, Christina Aguilera's inability to memorize our National Anthem, or the Black Eyed Peas complete lack of talent/style..... Seriously, why are they dressed like characters from a crappy movie that wasn't even really 3-D? // and Joint was higher than church plate, lol!!

Okay I need to say Why wasn't David Boreanaz's monologue at the end of Bones this past thursday. It was probably the most real I've ever seen any actor on TV. It just makes you feel for the guy so much.

Are you kidding me? The voice overs in The Chicago Code really worked (especially when one of them died). The intro was really awesome too. I think it's one of the better shows of the 2010/11 season. Everything else has been REALLY bland. I don't care either way for any of these new shows, I've never been this indifferent to a new seasons. So kudos to the Chicago Code.

The Chicago Code voiceovers were excellent. Especially when one of them cut out when the speaker was shot. Very effective technique.

Glee sucked the big one that night, simply horrible!
And it is amazing, SNL did have "brief" moments of incredible funny stuff, but ever so brief!!!

when will the black eyed peas just finally go away! two things i will never understand why they are popular and why they won't go away are eminem and the black eyed peas... the 2 biggest WTF moments in history and most untalented overhyped pieces of crap on earth. on another note.. big fan of the main character having a disembodied voice (especially on dexter).

@ MichelleBandu: I wonder how you avoid all the other offensiveness that the internet has to offer? I have plenty of sites I can send you with much more offensive matter. Anyway, Thursday Night on NBC is Swell. I have decided that I am going to like Perfect Couples. My two least favorite characters on that show have become my favorite, so that is a nice surprise.

The Chicago Code voice-over deserves to be in the swell list, not hell. It was a really effective way to introduce characters quickly so they could actually advance the plot and set up the season in a one-hour episode. Riddle me this, if it hadn't been for the voice-overs identifying main characters, would the character's death had nearly the same impact?

You can't be serious about Dana Carvey's return to SNL belonging in Swell-o-vision. The whole So-Last-Century show belonged in the second section with the richly deserving Peas & Gleeks.

A Happiness Seizure?? Really? Being a mother of a child who has Epilepsy I found that very offensive! There is nothing happy about a seizure or watching someone have one!
