TV.com's Top 100 Everything of 2010: 30-21

2010 was a banner year for television, which means there was certainly no shortage of nominees for our third annual "Top 100 Everything" list. Here you'll find the shows, characters, and episodes that made 2010 amazing—as well as the behind-the-scenes players, trends, and TV-relevant happenings that helped shaped the culture of television this year.

We'll be posting 10 items each weekday through December 31, so check back often to see what made the cut!

30. FX's bad guys

Well, technically one is a gal, but that didn't stop Sons of Anarchy's Agent Stahl (Ally Walker) from being the most vile villain on television this year. And thanks to Walton Goggin's masterpiece of a performance, Justified's Christian neo-Nazi Boyd Crowder also put the fear in us.

29. The Good Wife's amazing race

The fight over the State's Attorney race was enthralling. Florrick and Childs were anticipating a third candidate, and they spent a lot of time sabotaging her campaign. She stepped up to the podium anyway... and announced the candidacy of somebody else. It was a fabulous moment for a show that needs to be talked about more.

28. Live from New York, it's 30 Rock!

They weren't the all-time best episodes of the series, but the show's ambition to do not one, but TWO live shows (one for each coast—sorry, Chicago!) floored us. And as for how they pulled it off considering the potential for disaster? Color us very impressed.

27. Bones hit the century mark

Bones went all out for its 100th episode: Series star David Boreanaz directed it, Eric Millegan returned to play intern Zach Addy, viewers got a glimpse at the turbulent beginnings of Booth and Brennan's relationship, and—most momentously—Brennan rejected Booth in one of the most heartbreaking scenes of the year.

26. Louie's dentist appointment

In a series overflowing with awkward moments and controversial humor, Louie going to the dentist (played by Stephen Root) may have taken the cake. And then smashed it in our faces.

25. How I Met Your Mother also hit the century mark

Until "Girls vs. Suits" (the series' 100th episode), Barney Stinson was basically a consistent fountain of slightly misogynistic one-liners and catchphrases. But this musically inclined episode showed off NPH's superb singing voice and stage presence in the best possible way—it was a song about his two favorite things!

24. It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia's dance moves

Overall, Season 6 featured quite a few hilarious moments—but our favorites involved the Paddy's Pub gang getting their groove on. Sweet Dee did "the inflatable car dealership man" on top of a boat, and Charlie debuted his minimalist, interpretive "butt dance."

23. Modern Family's family moments

In every episode, after 20 minutes of laughing at Luke doing stupid things, Gloria fumbling the English language, Cameron being flamboyant, Manny behaving like a man-child, and Phil acting the dork, there's a moment when everything comes together. And gosh darnit, we just can't ignore the warm and fuzzy feelings that moment brings. Sitcoms aren't supposed to do this!

22. The cancellation of Heroes

It was about time.

21. Dexter's final stretch

The first half of the season was frustratingly terrible (the go-nowhere La Muerta plotline, the noticeably shabbier production values, all the typically awful co-worker characters), but the second half really heated up as Lumen and Dexter forged a blood pact to wreak havoc on her tormentors. Both Michael C. Hall and Julia Stiles did terrific work, bringing Dexter (both the guy and the show) into exciting new territory.

I agree with the FX baddies. Walton Goggins stole the show and was brilliant when he and Oliphant were in the same scene. Also Stahl. Gemma although not a complete baddie is fierce and brilliantly played.....Sons of Anarchy should be more on this list. And Dexter was awesome, don't care what anyone says. Not every season has to have a bomb drop on us.

I agree with TV.com: Dexter really sucked this season. Melissa Rosenbergleaving has really hurt the show.

Sorry, but Dexter is always bleeping awesome. I could say more, but I don't want my opinion to be dismissed as a sign of fundamentalism. It would be though. Only my opinion counts.

The Good Wife was all around fantastic it kept us on our feet.

I found Booth rejection of Brennan more heartwrenching than the 100th.

Well it's not like 30 rock was the first show to do a live episode. ER did it in 1997 (s04e01 Ambush). They also did it twice for both east and west coast. And for a medical show, especially in those times, I think that was far more impressive. I don't think 30 rock deserves so much praise for something unoriginal.

(in reference to #22 & Heroes) Even if you didn't like the show anymore you should NEVER encourage canceling a scripted show on a cliffhanger. die NBC! (Just renew Chuck first!)

About Dexter: I agree the La Muerta stuff felt like a sideshow and it didn't impact the show in any major way, but it wasn't bad. And what's which calling all the co-worker characters bad? TV.com even had a whole post about it. While obviously the Dexter Morgan character is the most interesting, I really enjoy scenes with Deb, Masuka, Quinn, Batista and the others. They've got a lot going on, some decent development and Masuka is just for comic relief. I find him hilarious.

It doesn't matter what the show, what your opinion of it is, to brag about a series being canceled is petty and idiotic. You're just being the bully, and it's never cool.

Totally agree on Heroes (Thank god it ended), the 100th episode of Bones (terrific episode), and Modern Family (Best comedy on television). Also, I look forward to seeing season 5 of Dexter since I don't have Showtime.

Awesome choices! Glad to see Walton Goggins recognized for his work on Justified and to see Dexter on here too, although the first half of the season really is fantastic upon second viewing. It was just difficult to watch when you had to wait week to week, in a row they all work extremely well. And yeah, that scene from Louie was totally messed up in an awkwardly hilarious way.

I was so relieved when Heroes finally got canceled, I really don't understand why I chose to keep watching it.. And I don't really consider the last half of the fifth season of Dexter to be all that amazing, it was building up to something quite spectacular, but the last episode or two kind felt like a cheap and predictable way to end the season..

I just hope there's still room for The Glades somewhere. I think I was wrong about who the culprit was in every single episode (that never happened to me before). And I haven't seen Chuck or Blue Bloods on your list either.

The Bones episode "The Parts in the Sum of the Whole" was really great. A lot of shows either write a normal episode for the 100th or they write a really weird one. This one was great.

What the heck..."Barney Stinson slightly misogynistic"...Barney has to be the most misogynistic character on TV. As much as I love Alyson Hannigan I just cant make myself watch HIMYM anymore because Barney ruins the show for me.

Heroes cancellation made #22?... would have been funnier if it was #90 or something, at 22 it just feels like it takes up room. I really hope you'll have room for things like Supernatural's Season 5 finale, community, 24 etc' in the top 20, otherwise you really wasted a spot..
