What to Watch This Labor Day: Teen Wolf, Adrien Brody in Houdini, and Lifetime's Unauthorized Saved By the Bell Story

What to watch on Monday, September 1...

8pm, Fox
MasterChef
The top 6 chefs take the reins at a tony L.A. restaurant, with Big Dog Gordon himself serving as the dinner service consultant. The losing team will face a pressure test to both create and spell croquembouche.

8:30pm, CBS
CBS Fall Preview
A look ahead to the Eye Network’s 2014-2015 programming slate, including that sitcom you won’t watch, that drama exploiting violence against women, and that crime procedural about a ragtag band of expert sleuths.

MOVIE PREMIERE, 9pm, Lifetime
The Unauthorized Saved by the Bell Story
This searing docudrama unfurls the horrifying true story of a high school that somehow managed to operate for five years despite having only half a dozen students, being run a bumbling principal who got way too involved in their lives, suffering frequent and unexplained temporal anomalies, and serving as a hub for an extensive illegal caffeine-pill trafficking ring. My friend, can your heart stand the shocking facts* about Saved By the Bell? (*not actual facts).

MINISERIES PREMIERE, 9pm, History
Houdini
Adrien Brody stars as the legendary early 20th century illusionist in this two-part biopic (Part 2 airs tomorrow night). OR DOES HE?! Yes, he does. UNLESS IT’S ALL DONE WITH MIRRORS? No, it’s made using conventional television production and narrative storytelling techniques. OR IS IT?! Yes, it is.

9pm, TNT
Dallas
Seeking justice for their various misdeeds, Elena squares off against the Ewings in “Hurt.” Surely that will end in the Ewings’ sincere remorse, redress of grievances, and vow to behave more ethically in the future. Wait, sorry, I meant to say “melodrama, bitterness, and revenge.” Yeah, that’s more like it.

MINISERIES FINALE, 9:29pm, Disney XD
Star Wars Rebels
The final prequel short, “Property of Ezra Bridger,” centers on a Lothal orphan who comes upon a downed TIE fighter and its trapped pilot... and then, possibly, goes a little nuts laying claim to the whole kit and kaboodle with his handy labelmaker.

10pm, PBS
POV
“After Tiller” profiles the only four doctors in the United States who openly perform third-trimester abortions after their colleague, Dr. George Tiller, was assassinated in 2009. The film also examines the circumstances, dilemmas, and hardships faced by these doctors and their patients.

SEASON 2 FINALE, 10pm, ABC
Mistresses
As Joss prepares for her big engagement bash, Karen prepares for her HIV test results. Elsewhere in “‘Til Death Do Us Part,” Savi considers being candid, Scott whips up a surprise for Joss, and April depends on Daniel to guard her and Lucy from her ex-husband’s enemies.

10pm, MTV
Teen Wolf
“A Promise to the Dead” finds Scott squaring off against an old enemy. If you’re scoring at home, I believe the count is now “Scott Fights an Old Enemy” - 317, “Scott Fights a New Enemy” - 312.

10pm, CBS
Under the Dome
Big Jim and his wife Pauline are reunited in “The Fall,” revealing the stunning truth about her fate. I’m guessing it’s that she had split town in a mad dash to get the hell off this show, and was halfway to Hell’s Kitchen before the TV Marshals caught up with her and dragged the poor woman back to Domeville.

LATE-NITE:
– Ray Liotta and Annaleigh Ashford on The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson, 12:37am, CBS

Why are late night shows so sparse this last week and now presumably this week too? Maybe it's just because today's labor day, but what was special about last week?

I like how even in the fictional outside world on the show, they refer to it as Domecity and it only the poor residents who still call it Chester's Mill. What might be funny about Teen Wolf is how many times that old enemy, new enemy, unlikely ally has been the episode description. Or like how the show doesn't care because all the clips keep showing Kate.
