What to Watch Tonight: The Premieres of Gang Related, Last Comic Standing, and New CW Miniseries Labyrinth

What to watch on Thursday, May 22...

MINISERIES PREMIERE, 8pm, The CW
Labyrinth
Two young French women (Vanessa Kirby and Downton Abbey’s Jessica Brown-Findlay, hopping across the Channel) separated by eight centuries discover their destinies are intertwined thanks to a mysterious tome in this two-part adaptation of the novel by Kate Mosse. Part two of the miniseries, which also stars John Hurt, airs tomorrow night.

8pm, NBC
Hollywood Game Night
TV Land stars Wendie Malick, Valerie Bertinelli, and Jane Leeves are among the contestants in “Hot in Hollywood,” though the absence of their co-star and formerly-NBC-but-now-Lifetime prankster Betty White is perhaps conspicuous. Fellow contestants Mekhi Phifer, Billy Eichner, and Andy Richter don’t think it’s awkward at all.

8pm, Fox
Hell’s Kitchen
A rigorous test on the ins and outs of pork is in store for the 10 remaining chefs, marking the strangest turn yet in the debate over common core standards. Later, struggles and snafus during the dinner service prompt Chef Ramsay to meld the teams into a new cooperative unit.

SERIES PREMIERE, 9pm, Fox
Gang Related
Ramon Rodriguez stars as Ryan Lopez, a hotshot LAPD detective torn between his vow to protect and serve and his longtime loyalty to the powerful gang whose leader orchestrated his police career. In the pilot, Ryan partners with a canny veteran after gangland violence strikes close to home. RZA and Terry O’Quinn also star.

SEASON 8 PREMIERE, 9pm, NBC
Last Comic Standing
J.B. Smoove takes over as host while Roseanne Barr, Keenen Ivory Wayans, and Russell Peters join the judges’ table as 100 hopefuls vie for the next round of auditions.

9:30pm, CBS
Bad Teacher
“The 6th Grade Lock-In” awakens Meredith’s green-eyed monster when Joel and another teacher get their flirt on during an annual school sleepover. I anticipate much vindictive shorting of sheets and dipping of hands into warm water.

10pm, ABC
Black Box
Catherine seeks Esme’s help to make a connection with a young boy in “Jerusalem.” Elsewhere, Jacob exhibits symptoms of a rare condition, and Catherine and Owen get creative to help Dr. Reynaud overcome his fear of dying, what with this show's imminent cancellation just around the corner.

10pm, IFC
Maron
“Therapy” sends Marc and Jen to a married pair of couples counselors, with generally lousy consequences for everybody involved.

10:30pm, IFC
Comedy Bang! Bang!
Guest Jenna Fischer shares a glimpse of the British incarnation of Comedy Bang! Bang!, while Reggie shares an ad for the vehicle of his dreams. It's unclear what fellow visitors Taran Killam, Paul Brittain, Jason Alexander, and French Stewart have to share. Possibly a tray of macaroons for everyone?

LATE-NITE:
– Ellen Page, Bob Saget, and Jennifer Nettles on Conan, 11pm, TBS
– Drew Barrymore & Adam Sandler on Chelsea Lately, 11pm, E!
– Drew Barrymore on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, 11pm, Comedy Central

And Craig Ferguson. I have a feeling Last Comic Standing is going to suck again, it's been uneven every year but I haven't been able to get all the way through the last few seasons.

With most of the seasons having ended, I just don't care about watching TV. Chances are I'll end up watching Doctor Who and Trochwood online over any of the regular TV shows on. But maybe I'll catch Hollywood Game Night.

I'm really looking forward to seeing Billy Eichner on Game Night. He should shake things up.
