What to Watch Tonight: Pretty Little Liars, Nathan For You, and the Summer Finale of Chasing Life

  • 79comments

What to watch on Tuesday, August 12...

8pm, ABC Family
Pretty Little Liars
Ali holds an innocent man’s fate in her hands as part of A’s latest manipulation in “A Dark Ali.” Elsewhere, Hanna tries to dispense with the neverending drama and lead a normal teenage existence, and hey I just got that pun on Ali/alley in the episode title.

SUMMER FINALE, 9pm, ABC Family
Chasing Life
April begins chemotherapy treatments in “Finding Chemo,” but the strain of her extended hospital stay soon begins to wear on her spirits. Elsewhere, Dominic returns to find April quite the changed woman, and hey I just got that pun on Finding Nemo in the episode title. Boy, I am slow on the uptake today.

SERIES PREMIERE, 9pm, AMC
4th and Loud
“A New Arena” kicks off this unscripted series chronicling the inaugural season of the Arena Football League’s LA KISS franchise, owned by veteran troubadours and facepaint enthusiasts Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons.

9pm, USA
Royal Pains
“Good Air/Bad Air” sends Hank and Boris to Argentina to meet a potential patient for Boris’s clinical trial, and Divya comes along to meet Sashi’s grandma. Back home, Russel tries to patch things up with Paige while Jeremiah tries to do the same with Viviana; and Evan turns to Ray for help taking down Oz.

9pm, TNT
Rizzoli & Isles
The team looks into a strange case involving a woman’s mummified remains in “It Takes a Village.” Still, this one’s not even close to as strange as that case where they found a guy’s Creature-from-the-Black-Lagoonified remains.

9pm, El Rey
Matador
Tony finds himself mixed up with a cartel boss in Nicaragua in “Enter the Worm,” which if nothing else is certainly this week’s early leader for Most Lovecraftian-Porno-Sounding Episode Title of the Week.

10pm, TNT
Perception
Pierce and Moretti are on the hunt for a sniper who targeted the Federal Building lobby in “Silence.” In less lethal proceedings, a captivating woman encourages Donnie to run for office.

10pm, MTV
Finding Carter
Carter and Taylor enjoy their first birthdays together since childhood. If the episode title “Throw Momma from the Train” is any clue, their party will either involve a convoluted homicide plot or a Danny DeVito movie marathon. Either way, I’m guessing attendance will be sparse.

10pm, USA
Covert Affairs
In “Grounded,” Annie and Auggie explore a conspiracy theory that may hold clues about the attack on the CIA. Is it the one about penguins being in cahoots with the Illuminati to corner the world’s gluten-free foodstuffs market? Because I’ve always had a strong suspicion that one is for real, you guys.

10pm, FX
Tyrant
Barry plots a coup to oust Jamal in “Meet the New Boss.” Gee, that title suggests unusual optimism, don’tcha think? After all, as the old saying goes, “meet the new boss, a refreshing change of pace from and marked improvement over the previous boss.”

10pm, Comedy Central
Drunk History
Hawaii is the subject as this week’s rummy raconteurs relate the exploits of explorer James Cook, World War II veteran Sen. Daniel Inouye, and top-dog surfer Eddie Aikau. Performers include Ken Marino, Jason Mantzoukas, and Steven Yeun.

10:30pm, Comedy Central
Nathan for You
A taxi company and a hot dog stand are both in need of a jolt in the arm this week. Can Nathan conjure up just the right kooky ideas to boost their flagging fortunes? I mean, these segments probably wouldn’t have made it to air if not, right?

LATE-NITE:
– Damon Wayans Jr., Ali Larter, and Lake Street Dive on Conan, 11pm, TBS
– Liv Tyler on Chelsea Lately, 11pm, E!
– Jessica Alba, Rob Riggle, Kings of Leon, and Ace Frehley on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, 11:35pm, NBC
– Meredith Viera, Dane DeHaan, and Magic Man on Late Night with Seth Meyers, 12:35pm, NBC
