TV.com's Swell-o-vision vs. Hell-o-vision (January 21)

Here's what was out of sight and just not right on TV this week.

Swell

... Onion Sports Dome gets the Mets-Phillies rivalry right
Don't call it a comeback! After a poor premiere, Comedy Central's new show comes up with a gem. This clip is really in poor taste. But it's funny poor taste.

... Liz Lemon's Grey Gardens impression on 30 Rock
Fey doesn't get enough credit for her non-Palin impersonation abilities.

... Lights Out continues to be a knockout
Are we the only ones watching this show? Ben Shenkman is always a welcome presence on our TV screens.

...Karl Pilkington's movie idea on last week's Ricky Gervais Show
A woman gets half of her husband's brain surgically implanted into her own head. And then it gets weird.

... Survivor Winner Fabio gets arrested for skateboarding while high
It's just nice when things make perfect sense.

... This week's Top Chef: All Stars elimination
This season's Restaurant Wars episode—usually a pretty boring challenge—ended with the extremely satisfying ousting of gross Marcel. We cheered, a little.

... The return of Parks and Recreation
It’s been too long, old friend.

Hell

... Animal Planet's Confessions: Animal Hoarding
A grown woman named Kitten—who was fired from her waitressing job for smelling like cat pee—finally reached her low point when she discovered her lost cat Jingles... MUMMIFIED under her bed.

... The Golden Globes' Best Drama Category
We kept waiting to hear "and the winner is Breaking Bad," but then we remembered it wasn't even nominated. Criminal.

... MTV trying to tone down Skins
Ummm.... did you really not know what you were getting into when you decided to remake this soft-porn for teens? Really?

... Yoji Pop, this season's token terrible Idol audition
The set-up is just so mean! You know J.Lo, Randy and Steven are all in on it, and poor Yoji Pop just wants to dance his heart out.

... NBC's Perfect Couples
Go away. You are annoying. You are a wall of blandly attractive white people who talk way too much. Your relationships are not real. They are canned and irritating. You are like a honky Telenovela or something. Bad, bad, bad. (Also, Mary Elizabeth Ellis, we're disappointed in you.)

... Regis Philbin retiring from LIVE! With Regis and Kelly
We'll miss you, you old coot.

What made your list of loves and hates this week?

Why do you 'so called 'critics' still insist on putting the unfunny, painful to watch, unwatched 30 rock on your lists? When oh when is this trainwreck going to crack the top 50 shows for the week? This week the cable programs that were watched by more viewers....Jersey Shore - 8.9million viewers and 7.7mil......Pawn Stars - 6.0mil and 6.0mil.......The Game - 5.9mil and American Pickers - 5.8mil. The feeble 30rock - 5.3mil....HA,HA,HA,HA!!

Does everyone love Southland as much as me? It was sad and shocking tonight but I'll still watch. Love Outsourced too. Am going to watch Harry's Law on On Demand so can't comment on it yet, really like Kathy Bates tho. Why aren't there any ABC shows On Demand?

Lights Out is brilliant. Anybody who likes Breaking Bad, Sons of Anarchy, Justified, etc will LOVE Lights Out. Best new show by far.

Oh, and I should have added HARRY'S LAW. May not make it, though there are hints it will, but it's a LOT of fun.

The return of WHITE COLLAR (with the allusion to the old Brit SF series, Blake's 7 in the title), and ROYAL PAINS (still tied with NCIS for the best show on the air), as well as the third installment of TCM's tribute to the Hal Roach Studios -- including both comic shorts and episodes of SCREEN DIRECTOR'S PLAYHOUSE, a mid-fifties tv show that hasn't been rebroadcast for 55 years.)

On the Hell-o-vision part, FAIRLY LEGAL, which may be USA's first disaster, and the continuing disintegration of HOUSE (series and character).

i actually like Perfect Couples. it's a lot better than everything else on NBC other than Chuck, Parenthood, and the rest of Thursday night shows... MTV's Skins is just crap. don't watch it. watch the original on BBC America or something if it still airs. People crap their pants over the US one, i wonder what they'd have to say about the UK one

I think that Bones was great this week. I thought it was really funny how Cam, Bones and Booth got slimed and then at the end seeing Angela and Hodgins Baby was way cool. Ultrasound machines are the best. Also, LOVE what they have done with squint Erickson.

How could you leave off The Golden Globes telecast and all the controversy it engendered?

I saw the first 3 minutes of Perfect Couples and wanted to jump off a bridge. I'm not sure that's the reaction NBC was looking for.

Oh my. That Onion clip of the Phillies-Mets was hilarious. And I feel a bit bad for thinking so. "I hope he gets cancer like me." That has to be the worst thing I've ever heard - lol.

FRINGE! It's back and better than ever baby! Fridays won't get the best of this show, especially not with the plot they have going!

(Animal Hoarding) The cat was mummified?! I'm sorry, but I do not know how some people hoard things, especially animals, who are living, breathing things.
