TV.com's Swell-o-vision vs. Hell-o-vision (July 1)

Here's what we thought was out of sight and just not right on TV this week.

Swell

... Enver Gjokaj on Lie to Me
It was great to the former Dollhouse star back on the small screen as an ass-kicking PTSD-stricken Iraq War veteran.

... The return of AMC's Mad Men Yourself
The slick avatar-generator is back, complete with new outfits and accessories; we've already wasted hours and hours playing with the damn thing.

... The first two episodes of Louie
Phenomenal, right? We love that the show's so raw and doesn't feel pressure to tie things together in the end. The second episode ended so hastily, but was so perfect.

... The shocking sex scene in True Blood's "It Hurts Me Too"
The scene between Bill and Lorena was one of the sickest, most twisted (literally!) things we've ever seen on television—and it was soooooooo True Blood.

... John Hodgman's "Soccer a.k.a. Football Shuffle" on The Daily Show

Hell

... The launch of HuluPlus
We want our free TV!

... The cancellation of Party Down
Another great, axed before its time.

... Larry King's retirement
He may be older than dirt, but he did make some compelling television. And the thought of Piers Morgan or Ryan Seacrest taking over for him makes us gag.

... The news that Janeane Garofalo has joined CBS' Criminal Minds spinoff
We like her better as an indie standup comic.

What made your list of TV loves and hates this week?

Party Down! Caught up on literally ALL the episodes during the past two weeks, and then heard the news. Of course it is a compliment to the show that most of the cast was (wisely) plucked away to launch other hew programs. But to me, this was the Best Comedy on any venue during 2009/2010.

I, for one, am really excited about Hulu Plus. I dumped cable 6 months ago because of its price kept going higher (dish is not an option in my complex). I pay for Netflix and love it. I don't mind the idea of paying for Hulu if I can easily stream through my laptop, Wii and/or PS3 and have the option of watching back seasons of shows not currently available for streaming (or on disc) through Netflix is a HUGE plus for me.

Larry King's slot should be taken by Jon Stewart. Think about it, you know I'm right.

thank you kevinG87, some1 who finally agrees with me on how unfair wipeout is becoming, i dont think theyve done it the first two seasons.

Enver was great, can someone please create a show for him!

King is simply a terrible interviewer, most times he has no clue. Really listen and watch his mannerisms!

I love Wipeout, but it seems like each season they make it less able to do and just trying to make people fall. like those spikey things at the begining of the gauntlet in the Wipeout Zone, that's totally unfair how it's designed to hit them no matter what. they need to go back to where they start doing it when you get close instead of midair. True Blood wasn't swell, that was freaky and creepy and i could've done without it. i only agree about Party Down, canceled way too early. and although I liked Dollhouse and Enver, i don't like Lie To Me, so i didn't see that

they shouldnt be doing it though, its pointless.

Karlwolfe, if the Wipeout hazard waited for everyone to make their first attempt before triggering, it was fair... everybody got the same treatment. (This is not a show about skillful completion of the hazards... it's a show about people getting knocked down a lot.)

As long as I can get the last few episodes on Hulu for free I'm OK with it. We can't expect them to offer all that HuluPlus comes with for free.

hell was the unfair gauntlet on the wipeout zone on wipeout of course. that thing always waited til the person went. that asian guy even waited 10 seconds for it to go but it still waited til he made his move. tottally unfair.
