TV.com's Swell-o-vision vs. Hell-o-vision (July 9)

Here's what we thought was out of sight and just not right on TV this week.

Swell

... Lady Gaga on The Today Show
She may be incredibly obnoxious, but the girl put on one hell of a show.

... What the Emmy nominations got right
Let's hear it for the voters finally recognizing Friday Night Lights' outstanding leads, Matthew Fox's great performance this season, and Conan.

... Steve Carell on The Colbert Report

... Freaks and Geeks returns to TV!
Every Friday night on IFC, home of the best reruns on television.

... This week's "Looking for a Girlfriend" Web Redemption on Tosh.0
Daniel Tosh continues to be hilarious by helping internet celebrities make fun of themselves.

Hell

... ESPN's LeBron yawn-a-thon
The network's "The Decision" special was a sickening display of broadcast sycophantry. Yeah, that's probably not a word, but who cares.

... What the Emmy nominations got wrong
John Noble, Katey Sagal, and Ed O'Neill all deserve better.

... Sofia Vergara struggling to pronounce actors' names at the Emmy nomination announcements
Okay, it was actually kind of adorable.

... The onslaught of guest-star requests for Glee
We need a new word for "overexposed."

"Elainecleo"? Sounds like a Eclipse freak to me (or Lady GaGa, which, by the way, would be cools as Hell, Because she is!). Oh, and "...An oscar nod for 'Eclipse'"??? That's hilarious dude! "True Blood" got it's nomination because it was WELL deserved! Let me guess, never seen the show...It makes total sense now!

Joenamherst, your comment just makes you seem idiotic and racist. Sofia Vergara is colombian not mexican.

No! It was not adorable that Sophie Vergera could read. IT WAS PATHETIC! This is what happens when television tries to be politcally correct. She wouldn't have even been on the show had she not been a woman and a mexican!

Smells that CW did not have a show on the list, The Vampire Diaries and Supernatural are better than True Blood. TB up for Best Drama, what next an Oscar nod for Eclipse?? Give me a break. At least one of the "Winchester" men should have been on the actor list. This is why I don't watch award shows.

Hell:Jenifer Carpenter getting snubbed, Better off Ted getting ignored by everyone again(it makes me sad that his show is not even given much critical attention), The Office getting a nom for it's worst season yet. Swell:The Best Drama category of the emmys is made of win. Also on the hell list: TV.com still not acknowledging the enter button in the comments section, do you have any idea how annoying it makes some things to read?

I'm surprised that Katey Sagal didn't get a nom for her show after the acclaim she got for her performance over the season. Plus Alexander Skarsgard for his performance as Erik on True Blood. Especially the episodes with Godric. Also, Jennifer Carpenter gave a great performance this season on Dexter and a Supporting Actress nom would have been nice. Carell was great on Colbert Report, harkens back to the old days. Loved the acknowledgment of Jon Stewart and having him come on the screen.

Let's not forget the completely overlooked and overrobbed "Community". Not one single nomination?! Is it a wonder why I hate the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences so much?!

We need more dramas about teen angst and football players and high school cheerleaders and just ordinary kids trying to figure out a complex world. Just kidding. Please, let's stop encouraging those who would turn TV into a Glee and FNL factory. If we did that, when would we have time to watch thrilling shows that set up unexplainable mysteries that they promise to explain and never do.

Not a good move by Lebron or ESPN but at least that's done and he's with the Heat now.
