TV.com's Swell-o-vision vs. Hell-o-vision (June 17)

Ooooooweeeeee! Summertime! The livin' is easy and we're indoors watching TV! Here's what we thought was out of sight and just not right on television this week...

Swell:

... It's Always Sunny's Rob McElhenny is bulking up
He's putting on 50 pounds simply because he thinks it would be funny for his character.

... Jim Carrey, funny again?
This amusing staged gag on Letterman ends a dry spell for the rubber-faced comic, but it still doesn't make up for his new penguin movie. Gotta pay the bills, we suppose.

... Suze Orman wore a NICE denim shirt this week
Plus, as Suze pointed out, she can afford to buy denim shirts WITHOUT shreds and scuffs, but this one was just "too cool." Who says a 60-year-old financial advisor/millionaire can't be a little edgy?

... Megan Mullally as a judge on SYTYCD
It takes a special kind of woman to appear as a judge on So You Think You Can Dance AND Childrens Hospital on the same night. Plus, unlike most celebrity judges, she seemed to know what she was talking about!

... Game of Thrones secret-keepers
For those of us who haven't read the books, last weekend's shocking events were a total surprise! We probably owe a ton of gratitude to you book readers who did such a good job of not spoiling it for us. Thanks, nerds!

Hell:

... The disappointment of Jon Benjamin Has a Van
H. Jon Benjamin's new show should be hilarious. We wanted it to be hilarious. We tried to convince ourselves it was hilarious. It is not hilarious.

... C's riffin' on SYTYCD
We're still trying to decide what's more painful to endure: Mary Murphy's incessant mention of the Hot Tamale Train, or C's nonsensical acronym speeches.

... Game of Thrones' knockout really was a knockout
And yes, while it made for great television, we're still bummed we had to say goodbye to one of our favorite characters!

... Pole-dancing on America's Got Talent
This preview for is disheartening, and Howie Mandel is giving Steven Tyler a run for his money in the Lecherous Judging of Young Women in a Reality Competition Show Department.

There is a streak of Com-Central sketch shows that we wanted to be good, prayed would be good because of their hilarious leads and just weren't good. It started with "Michael and Michael Have Issues" - Michael Ian Black and Michael Showalter... has to be good - wasn't and got ditched after one season. "Nick Swardson's Pretend Time" - Nick Swardson is one of the funniest stand-ups around but I guess his best television work will remain "Reno 911"'s Terry. That show was worse than H Jon Benjamin's. And now from the funniest spy on television we get another hit/miss sketch comedy show. I thought the first episode was better than the second but after the "Little Little Italy" sketch in the second episode I wonder if there is any hope left for this show. (The best of these shows was the show with the aforementioned Michael Ian Black and Michael Showalter and their other parter in crime David Wain - "Stella" which actually was funny but got canceled after its first season.)

Jon Benjamin Has a Van isn\'t consistent but it had some of the funniest moments in its first two episodes. \"Cash Stall\" should be considered a **** classic already.

Agreed, Jon Benjamin's show is crap. Soon it will be added to the list of shows that Daniel Tosh will use at the end of one of his episodes.

I remember Tom Hanks telling the story on Letterman, and noticed the similarity right away. Hanks told it better.

Speak for yourself, some a-hole commenter on TWoP spoiled the death in the new episode for me before I even started watching it. And then when I complained, he compared it to Snape killing Dumbledore. Yeah, coz the plot of Game of Thrones is just as well known as Harry Potter.
