TV.com's Swell-o-vision vs. Hell-o-vision (March 12)

We already know about some swell stuff next week (Justified, The Pacific leading the way), but what about this week?

Swell:

... Zach Galifianakis on Saturday Night Live
Finally an episode of the sketch show that didn't totally suck, and we owe it all to that fat bearded man. Marijuana Santa Claus. Oh Zach.

... Caprica getting much better
It's no Battlestar Galactica, but Caprica is getting progressively better and better.

... Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin
They worked well as hosts for the Oscars, tag-teaming the event while remaining individually funny.

...30 Rock's Kable Town
Another wink and a nod to the real-life Comcast-NBC deal.

... This Battlestar Galactica Beastie Boys mashup!

Hell:

... Those 10 testimonials for Best Actor/Actress nominees at the Oscars.
So cringeworthy we hit the mute button both times. We get it, you guys are totally in love with each other.

... Another teen idol goes down
R.I.P. Corey Haim.

... The exploitation of Betty White
We love her, we do. But c'mon! Commercials, guest spots, and a hosting spot on Saturday Night Live? Will she die of overexposure?

... Anytime Zach wasn't on SNL
As dreadful as every other episode of Saturday Night Live. Just give him his own show already.

... This frustrated reporter (at end)

What's on your list of loves and hates this week?

How can you NOT mention Joe and Allison's wedding on Medium?!! That was the best moment, and the best show of the week. And probably one of the best episodes of Medium ever!

Why do you misinformed 'critics' always mention the overrated 30rock? 'We The People' never hear any of the lines because we DO NOT watch this unfunny show!!

TNT and TBS are going to give the regular networks a run for their money. I am looking forward to Saving Grace and The Closer. I agree with BILOXIPAT Fox and CBS...NBC took a chance with Leno and lost a lot of fans. Now NBC is scrambling to find shows to take the 10pm time slot!

Oh, I forgot, I watch some FOX too: AMERICAN IDOL and HOUSE.

CBS is about all I watch nowadays. All the CSI's, MEDIUM, TWO AND A HALF MEN, NCIS, THE GOOD WIFE, CRIMINAL MINDS...the list goes on. All NBC has going for it is the LAW & ORDER's. NBC totally sucked itself up when they put Leno on for five months and gave away all its dramas and treated Conan like detritus from the beach.

Addmitedly SNL has been sliding in quality a little bit this year, but it's far from being totally sucking. The show has sufferred some talent drain, with the absence of megatalents like Amy Poehler and Maya Mudolph, and as there is not a major election on the horizon, the show seems a little off the tracm. True, the creativity team has been through a bottleneck, the sketchs are sometimes boring, the cast appears to lake some chemistry, especially with a major inbalance between the male and female staff members, you know amazing as Kristen Wiig is, she seems to be overused. But if you define SNL as "totally suck", then 90% of shows on TV should be cancelled. Plus, you know what really totally sucks in my mind-everything on CBS, yeah, your parent company, from the never-stopping CSI series and the dreadful sitcoms like 2.5 men.

Am i the only person who liked the testimonials? I hated the speeches, and some of the people they picked were just weird, but i liked that they recognized the people who were nominated a bit more, not just the person who won. I also liked the little bits where they showed the script with the movie playing behind it.

It's mainly because as I live in Australia, these movies either weren't out yet or only just came out and I haven't had the chance to see them. So I appreciate seeing the work that I haven't had a chance to see.

What was that anchor so frustrated about anyway?

I really did hate those testimonials. We know how great all those actors and actresses are. We don't need you all to sing their praises even more.

I loved some of the guest star characters on CSI Miami last week. The guy who lived in the ceiling and the guy who was pretending to have a kid so he get more days off were good.
