TV.com's Swell-o-vision vs. Hell-o-vision (May 13)

Here's what we thought was out of sight and just not right on television this week... that DIDN'T involve cancellations or renewals.

Swell:

... Scotty McCreery Goes Gaga
The country boy on Idol seemed to be the one who took the least from mentor Lady Gaga's words of wisdom—despite her best efforts to get him to turn his microphone straight. (Listen to the girl, Scotty!) Jimmy Kimmel turned it into a Swell, however, with this parody:

... San Francisco was named 11th gayest city in US, and the Daily Show was on the scene
Jason Jones investigates the hardcore scene of the country's new gayest city: Minneapolis.

... Amy Sedaris on Bob's Burgers
Sedaris is always deserving of the spotlight, even if it's as a cartoon mortician's blind date. Our only complaint is that her guest-voice appearance wasn't long enough!

... The New Era Cap commercials featuring the fine acting chops of NBC favorites John Krasinski and Alec Baldwin
Whether or not you care about baseball or caps, they are funny!

... Home Improvement: The 20th Anniversary Collection on DVD
Released on Tuesday, all eight seasons of the lovable, grunt-y family comedy are now available packaged together in a thematically appropriate red tool box. Guess what we're watching this weekend?

... Michael Bolton's tribute to Captain Jack Sparrow via last weekend's SNL Digital Short
Listen closely and you'll realize that the music behind the catchy hook about Sparrow's "mystical quest to the isle of Tortuga" is even adapted from the movie's score.

(Take note of the similarities between the chorus and the movie theme about one minute in.)

Hell:

... Good Eats is 86'd
Alton Brown has reportedly discontinued his wonderfully informative and entertaining cooking show after 249 episodes. But there's a silver lining: The Mr. Wizard of the kitchen is cooking up something new.

... Outsourced's Wedding Finale Bash
We cried at this wedding, but only because we couldn't find the remote to change the channel.

... Dairy Queen's fencing ad
We've officially grown tired of ads that so clearly rip-off the Old Spice campaign.

... Durbin Done Gone
The biggest Idol ouster shocker since Chris Daughtry, hands down. Still, James will do just fine. There will always be room in the music industry for a guy who can hit Axl Rose notes.

... Matthew Perry is back in rehab
"Please enjoy making fun of me on the world wide web," the Mr. Sunshine star said in a statement. We're just happy he's taking the steps he needs to get well.
