TV.com's Swell-o-vision vs. Hell-o-vision (May 27)

It's the Memorial Day weekend edition! Holla! Here's what we thought was out of sight and just not right on television this week...

Swell:

... Oprah's final show
Just Oprah in front of a camera, explaining what she's been trying to do these past 25 years: help us love each other a little more. Awwww... we're sure it worked somewhere.

... HBO GO showing others how it's done.
The newest episode of Game of Thrones (which airs this weekend) is already available, AND you can watch every episode of almost every HBO series, including the old ones. Deadwood! Rome! Six Feet Under! Non-subscribers are really missing out. This is how you do on-demand!

... Frances Conroy is returning to TV... in American Horror Story
Ever since the finale of Six Feet Under, we've missed this amazing actress. But now she's been cast in FX's new pilot from the creators of Glee.

... The last scene of last week's Game of Thrones
[Spoiler alert!] One of the series' biggest D-bags (and there are many) finally got to wear his golden crown. Perhaps he should have been more specific when he demanded one, but we're glad he wasn't.

... Jon Hamm will direct the season premiere of Mad Men
If Matthew Weiner lets Jon Hamm ham it up the way he Jon Slattery do slapstick, we'll be in for a good episode. It's still too bad we won't see it until next year, though.

Hell:

... There's nothing on TV!
We've entered the dead zone, folks: The "official" TV season is over, and the reality onslaught is coming in hot. Thank god for cable and Netflix, right?

... The Killing is killing our patience
Did we really have to spend all that time chasing someone whodidntdunnit?

... San Francisco overshadowing Oakland in the SYTYCD premiere
Even though the auditions took place at Oakland's Paramount Theater, the show barely even mentioned the Bay Area's "other city." That's a straight-up diss to a city that already has an inferiority complex.

... Justin Bieber's $25,000 Stewie necklace
How you uh, how you comin' on that necklace you're designing? Huh? Gotta a big, uh, big pile of spare diamonds there? Gotta, gotta nice little clasp you're working on there? Huh? Gotta, gotta conspicuous need to flaunt your riches? Huh? This is why children should not have money.

... Lee DeWyze and Nigel Lythgoe's Twitter war
It started with the Idol EP not inviting last year's America Idol to sing at this year's finale. That begat a tweet ping-pong war between the two. Awkward and petty.

... The Winchesters' treatment of an angel
How about showing Castiel a little more respect and trust, Sam and Dean? We're team Castiel all the way. Especially now that he's God. Kneel before the trenchcoat!

... Planking
Just stop it, before NBC greenlights a two-hour edition of Celebrity Planking. (Though Damon Lindelof's hatch coffee table IS pretty cool...)

Hmmm! I agree that the Winchesters have been treating Castiel harshly in season 6 but for fricks sake - Castiel has gone off the deep end! He damn well needs some harsh loving right now! Also, the Stewie bit was hilarious- what a thing to spend 25k on sheesh!

We enjoy The Killing even though they were chasing the wrong guy, they never said he did it. All in the suspense!

Someone on your staff must be a huge Family Guy fan, because that was classic Stewie.

I wish I had Youtube when I was a kid so I could have sang and danced my way to riches like Justin Bieber. God that kid really got it right when it came to trusting that guy that called him to bring him to all of those radio stations. My kids can't get enough of him and thay are only 5 and 7. Good work Bieber, keep up all of the hard work and you can buy all of the useless items you want, that comes with being rich and famous.

I couldn't help reading that in Stewie's voice.

Ok, so maybe the Winchesters were a bit harsh - but why should they accept this from Castiel? He\'s just pulling a Sam, damnit!

Hooked on powerjuice that may not be good for him - check.

Running around behind everyone\'s back, lying and consorting with demons - check.

Getting delusions of grandeur when he\'s high on his substance of choice - check.

Thinking he knows best and doesn\'t need to listen to the people who love him - check.

So - not so special after all, and clearly in need of a back-to-reality ****

I wonder what happens when the eclipse ends - will Cas go nuclear? :/

Bang on about HBO: from the Sopranos to Boardwalk Empire to Californication and Entourage, and now Game of Thrones... they can do no wrong.

The only thing you mentioned that has any relevance to me is Oakland. I grew up on the Oakland side and agree that it generally doesn't get enough respect. So can't wait until the new season.

SYTYCD did an entire section on Oakland's own dance style, complete with interviews and explantions. I think that means something. And while I'm not entirely happy with the whole 'Castiel is now God' thing, the Winchester' were totally justified in their reactions. If Cas had been totally upfront about everything with them right from the beginning, things might have been better.

I like watching American Idol, but it deserves a HELL this week for disorganization. Even after a 3 hour finale on Tuesday and Wednesday nights, it still ran into the next hour, not like one minute, but 6+ minutes. Why can't they get it together?

Game of Thrones was awesome, as usual.

Not "Celebrity Planking" - rather "Planking on Celebrities"! Imagine contestants running around Hollywood trying to nail Tom Hanks or whoever...

PS. To paraphrase Obama: I wanna make clear to the NBC table -- that was a joke
