I definitely recommend rewatching Nikita, Price. Do try to finish Veronica Mars first. As well as Teen Wolf. Nikita had a weak pilot but each episode got better. It’s pretty ridiculous at times but high quality ridiculous.

I did watch Malibu Country. I try to give new TV shows a three episode test if I’m not watching other things at that time. The show got even worse after the pilot. They kept the fake gay guy thing going which made all the characters look dumb. They did a hilariously bad job of hiding Sara Rue’s pregnancy via large objects. Also, last week’s episode focused on the son trying to lose his accent while his sister made fun of him. This called attention to the fact that these siblings have radically different accents even though they were raised together and are roughly the same age.

In an unrelated notes, do you guys have any favorite Thanksgiving/Christmas episodes of TV?

The main problem with the US version of the Inbetweeners is Will is too good looking - he's awkwardness seems forced - On the plus side - Will is much nicer to look at.

It's been a while since I've heard you guys talk about SPN and I wanna know if Price has caught up to Season 2 of it since it's one of the best seasons in the show's history imo.

uh oh it looks like you guys got alot of people mad about your reaction to New Girl in your FTW & WTF post..... again... which i actually agree with you guys this time!

Good thing you stopped saying your last name in these podcasts Tim. You keep pronouncing it wrong. It's Sure-rette not sah-rette. Geez, you'd think you'd be able to pronounce your own name.
Also, if you start this podcast when Dorothy lands in Oz in the Wizard of Oz, and mute the movie it totally works as audio.

Hey so when reading through the comments for the newest TVD post, Im finding a lot of people questioning and complaining about the new comments setup.. maybe you guys could talk about that?
Reply

I like the reply notification, but there are obviously some bugs in the new code. I've heard of people clicking the thumbs-up and instead ending up flagging the comment. There are now only 2 sublevels of comments, and the order of the comments changes so the oldest-to-newest order is completely messed up. Other than those obvious bugs, it's fine. Even the reply notification would be more useful if I were notified when people replied to my comments, not to any comment in the same string. But baby steps, so okay.

I watch everything on Fridays from Nikita to Malibu Country to Grimm, I even watched the Whitney Houston Tribute and the Firefly special and I never even watched Firefly (Don't shoot me). So if you're looking for someone to cover Fridays, I'm your guy. ;)

*sigh* nothing interesting about m'name...it's just m'name: Stan King. Sorry to disappoint, but I love the theories.
As for the cancellations/pick-ups, if the pick-ups didn't disgust me, the fact that Last Resort gets cancelled but The Neighbors lives? It's just Jar-Jar Binks all over again.

I totally agree with everything that one guy on the american inbetweeners, the first few episodes (with the exception of the first which was pretty good) were a little lame but the second half was pretty strong and I personally lover the season finale.

By the way, thanks for a comprehensive answer to my second question. I understand that you guys don't have time and you have your own Nielsen ratings to worry about, I was just putting forward a request :) I remember there once was a Lost vs Fringe article and it had a lot of comments, around 500 if I'm not mistaken, so maybe something around that area could be 'click-worthy'. Perhaps not a comparison of two shows, but more of a reminiscence piece and overlook over the entire genre. Just a thought

Also, I can't believe you guys don't do anything special for series finales... I thought you TV fanatics would have some sort of rituals for shows' endings.

My comedy situation is similar to Jen's. I love New Girl, Go On, Parks and Rec, Community. And based on all the good things you guys have saying about Don't trust the B, I'll catch up on it too, once I finish catching up with Childrens Hospital (hilarious!).
I also watch 30 rock and The Office mostly as a chore at this point. I really really hate quitting shows so I try to get 100% (as I used to do in games:) ). I watched Grey's Anatomy like 3 more years after I decided I can't take it anymore...
Price, I share your hatred for characters that act in a totally unbelievable way or say things normal people wouldn't. It's really annoying when sometimes there's an argument that lasts episodes or even a season because someone was blamed for what they did. And it all could have been sorted out in a matter of minutes if that person just tried explaining himself, especially when his motives were reasonable. I think like 99,99% of people would first try to defend their position, especially if there are reasonable justifications for their behavior.

I loved the Inbetweeners! I mean I didn't watch the British version but I watched all the episodes of the U.S. one and c'mon it wasn't great but it wasn't Skins either!!! the finale was awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Even if we won't get a weekly review of Nikita, I'd be totes happy with Price doing a rewind-recap of it!

I listened to this podcast last night and I had all these things I wanted to comment on but now I can't remember them...maybe I'll have to go back to listening to them here.
From what I can remember: Yes to the Nikita coverage by Price please! I always watch the episode each week then go on tv.com the next day to read a recap (which I do for most of my shows) then I get sad when I realise no one is covering the amazingness that is Nikita. Even if you do it as a rewind show like you did for Veronica Mars that would be brilliant.
Also I love bun notice it's a fun spy show that isn't depressing. Also I really need Malibu Country to be cancelled because my dead pool is actually sucking.
What else....oh I'm not loving the vampire diaries as much as I used to. I don't know but this season isn't really doing anything for me which is sad because I used to enjoy it so much. Anyway great podcast guys!

Since you mentioned about upgrades... It would be nice to be able to choose how we view the comments, such as:
(a.) Most number of likes / Most popular
(b.) Load all (suggested plenty of times already)
(c.) Numbered pages

Hope you guys will consider this suggestion. Thanks.

Just want to add my feedback on the "Add your comment..." COMPOSE BOX. It does NOT enlarge as I type more text, so it's quite difficult to edit the whole comment. Guess maybe you want us all to keep things short and simple haha.

On a more related matter, wouldn't it be a good idea to have a guest writer every week, so we get a more varied list of shows to talk about?

Tuesday nights are great for comedies. Good thing I rarely watch any of them on TV, as I watch all three of Happy Endings, Go On, and New Girl. I also love Don't Trust the B. I'm still watching The Mindy Project and Ben and Kate, but both could be out of my rotation soon... generally, they aren't exactly funny, but they haven't been horrible either.

I like Nikita and I definitely wouldn't mind some coverage on it, but I understand the reasoning you have for not assigning it to anybody. The show doesn't get many viewers, so I doubt the review would get many readers. Then again, I'm often surprised at how many people seem to read the Grimm reviews.

Is there a specific reason?

Would you ever recap anything like Criminal Minds or NCIS or anything else like that?

They would only have to do it once since every episode is the exact same.

I hate The Inbetweeners US, I gave it three episodes, and they all copied the plot of better UK episodes, and that's the worst thing a remake can do in my opinion. It needs to stand on its own in some way, and when you're just copying someone else completely, you get no idea if the people involved have any good plans for the show once it breaks that formula.

I too have totally fallen out of love with Revenge. I don't know what it is about this second season, but it is not gripping me the same way that the first season did. I'll normally have it ready to watch on Monday, but I might not watch it until the following Sunday.
Reply
Flag
It doesn't have takedowns-of-the-week anymore. I think that's the reason why Revenge feels a little off this season.
Reply
Flag
Not just that- I think Revenge improved in season 1 when it went more serialized rather than takedown of the week, but still season 2 is missing something. It doesn't feel like Emily is actively working towards revenge anymore :(
Reply
Flag
Agreed that the weekly plots were nice. The last episode actually felt like it might be getting things back on track though by moving Emily's story forward instead of sideways.

I watched two minutes of the pilot of Malibu Country. That's all I could stand. The show can be summarized in three words: generic, generic, generic. It's just a plain sitcom with plain jokes. Obviously, I'm not watching it.
About The Inbetweeners: For a long time I belonged to the group of people who didn't like the idea of British shows being remade. But watching Shamless (US) changed my mind. I haven't seen the British version, so I was a complete Shameless virgin. While a lot of people hate the American version, or at least the idea of an American version, I love it. So it has made me realize how unfair we often are towards American remakes. The image we have of the British show affects us too much when judging the American remakes. We should judge them more based on their own merits. Granted, many of them are just bad, but some are a little better. And I thought The Inbetweeners (US), was a fair show. Not great, but it had some good moments. They guys are promising actors.

Can we add the rest of Teen Wolf season 1 to that list? I genuinely missed having a recap accompaniment to those episodes!

And can we also add the first 3 eps of season 2 of VD? Price says The Return is practically his fave VD ep ever, yet he still hasn't recapped it. I've been dying to read it for months.

Thanks for the shout out, I understand that the ratings are crappy for Nikita. I just feel like no one knows it exists, even thought the quality and actors are so good. But I get the fact that money, ratings ect. are important so thanks for the explanation. Loving these podcasts!

i like new girl, it's funny but really this last episode was insulting to women, i hate PMS it's the worst, it hurts, it plays with your feeling, but we are not irrational monster that scream at people and have no control. And yes is a comedy but still you can make jokes without making women weak, and that has happened in new gir a couple of times.
Reply
Flag
Girls, please don't take this away from us. We know it's a stereotype, but it's all we have... You're already better than us in every other way (except for peeing).

The peeing thing is true, i'm really jealous of that

I agree- I love New Girl, and while that episode made me laugh a lot, it made me cringe too with the way they portrayed PMS. It sucks, but it's not crazy making and life debilitating the way pop culture tells it. I can laugh at that stereotype, but there are people who actually believe it and use it to justify a lot of sh*t they talk about women >:(

I agree, the way it is portrayed on television is exaggerated which is amusing, but it makes a lot of idiots believe that it is like that...

I'm so glad you brought this up; before we started recording I mentioned the topic of period humor and we just didn't get to it. I absolutely LOVE New Girl, but I definitely raised an eyebrow as soon as I realized the show was going to use PMS as a plot point (similarly, I was really annoyed when Modern Family did that episode last season where all the Dunphy ladies had their period at the same time and it ruined Phil's day or whatever). It's definitely lame to say "women are irrational when they have their periods" the same way it's lame to make any other blanket statement. I can definitely appreciate the argument that "Menzies" was a bit insulting; I'm also curious to know what other storylines you're referring to when you say the show has portrayed women as weak in the past?

Regardless, I ALWAYS want a soft pretzel, doesn't matter what time of the month it is. (But I still liked that line.)
Reply
Flag
But that's not what they were saying, at least as I understood it. My takeaway was that they were saying some women use their red devil baby as an excuse to act out and men don't have that once-a-month free pass equivalent for acting irrational.

Completely agree on The Inbetweeners - about 75% of the episodes were funnier than anything I've seen on broadcast TV this year. And I had no one to talk about it with.

so this comment is kind of in relation to your inbetweeners comment, but are you guys watching Elementary? It has actually become one my favorites but I feel it gets a lot of flack from the Sherlock loyalists.. what are your opinions on the show?
2
Reply
Flag
I totally agree! I've watched both, and I think that the two can't and shouldn't be compared. I see that the timing of Elementary seems like they're piggy-backing on the success of Sherlock, but I've genuinely enjoyed it and think it is another sign of CBS being smart and evolving their format...
