TV's Funniest Catchphrases

Ah, the catchphrase. It's not just a saying. It's a verbal signature—and these characters have certainly made their mark with a few choice words. We went through all the classics (Dyn-o-mite!), weeded through the greetings (Hello, Newman), and eliminated all the one-hit wonders (Yada, yada, yada) to create this list of the funniest, silliest, and most creative catchphrases. Respek.

15. Home Improvement's Tim Taylor (Tim Allen): the grunts

14. Full House's Stephanie Tanner (Jodie Sweetin): "How rude!"

13. Da Ali G Show's Ali G (Sacha Baron Cohen): "Booyakasha."

12. Saturday Night Live's Festrunk brothers (Steve Martin and Dan Aykroyd): "We are two wild and crazy guys!"

11. Family Guy's Quagmire: "Giggity."

>> Next on the list: D'oh! >>

wow most of these lame ones are from newer unmemorable shows that will be forgotten after they are cancelled. there isn't a single person who doesn't remember urkle's did i do that? this list is fail

legendary should be higher and suit up should also be on the list

    Dec 13, 2009
  • Cloud551

"I've made a huge mistake" should be higher.

most of these catchphrases aren't even memorable
I only agree with South Park, Diff'rent Strokes.
by the way, Tim Allen's is not even a catchphrase, as it is pointed out, it's a grunt, even a monkey can imitate that.
and Simpson's, I like how Homer does that, but, that's not a catchphrase

and as n8v7n3 pointed out, where's "I Pity the fool"???

  • beilmandulin

@ n8v7n3 I agree with the Chris Berman and also (although this could just be me listening to Frank Caliendo do impressions of him but...) John Madden saying anything that has Brett Favre in it

@joenamherst: "I have never heard of.......'I've made a huge mistake'.....'Giggity'......'Booyashka'........'Legendary'........'How You Doing?'.......'Oh my God they killed Kenny'. I have heard of 'Thats what she said', but waaay back in the 70's!"Do you even watch TV?

    Nov 26, 2009
  • Gamer_god

"Come on!" was a better Arrested Development catchphrase than "I've made a huge mistake." Show's so awesome.

    Nov 26, 2009
  • n8v7n3

The above list is so lame. There are so many TV catchphrases that are so damn memorable, but the creator did very little research in doing this. Most of these are putrid! **BOO** **HISS** to his list!

Another memorable TV catchphrase- Mr. T on The A Team uttering "I Pity The Fool!"

  • joenamherst

OH MY GAWD! I scrolled down a bit and thet actually had a whole topic devoted to the unfunny, unwatched 30 rock! Something about Jack insulting Lez. Thats one reason 'We The People' refuse to watch that trashy program. It's sad when the so called critics think insulting others is funny.

    Nov 19, 2009
  • joenamherst

Maybe the 'person' who made up this list should do a little better research. I have never heard of.......'I've made a huge mistake'.....'Giggity'......'Booyashka'........'Legendary'........'How You Doing?'.......'Oh my God they killed Kenny'. I have heard of 'Thats what she said', but waaay back in the 70's! The only saving grace for this 'list' is that anything from the unfunny, unwatched 30rock was NOT included. The 'person who made out this "list", 'made a huge mistake'!

How about this from "All In The Family"- Archie Bunker saying "Shut up, you" to anyone who got on his nerves?

    Nov 18, 2009
  • noelveiga

B.A. telling Murdock to shut up. The catchphrase that created a TV.com avatar.

    Nov 18, 2009
  • gmx13

The Ali G one doesn't need to be on this list at all. You say that in front of Joe Public and 99% of them will be scratching their heads. Arkel's "Did I do that?" should definitely be on this list.

    Nov 18, 2009
  • WarrenDewson

how about "it's the big one elizabeth" and "i'm coming to join you honey" from sanford and son. also "sorry about that chief" and "would you believe" from get smart.

  • Voltergeist

What a terrible list! Not to mention that Family Guy popularized "That's what she said!" like five years before The Office. But then again, that's something that only somebody who actually watches tv would know...

    Nov 17, 2009
  • caitfate

Of all the tv shows in the history of television, this is a pretty crappy list. The only ones I can second are "D'oh!" (although it should've been higher on the list), "LEGENDARY!" and "How You Doin'?" Which reminded me of how much I loved Friends and miss it.

    Nov 17, 2009
  • RobertJohnson5

"I’ve made a huge mistake." was said by many characters on Arrested Development, not just GOB.

    Nov 17, 2009
  • pitzerLN

"i'm not here to make friends" from every reality show on the planet should definitely have made the list

    Nov 17, 2009
  • drwoowoocl

"Thats what she said" ? Are you kidding me? Thats not even funny! Why is there always stuff from last week? I can think of at least a dozen catchphrases from before the 90s that are better than most of the ones on this list!

    Nov 17, 2009
  • radrocker2793

wow all these sucked!!! who thought of this list?!?!?

    Nov 17, 2009
  • badbwoydes

Hardly agree with this list. "I've made a hugh mistake" was good but should of been ranked higher. And how come "Come on!" from Arrested Development didn't make the list?

    Nov 17, 2009
  • mackula

Good list. There are so many. For SciFi, Star Trek TNG's Captain Picard: "Make it so" & "Engage"

A few things that should have made the list.

Everyone on <em>Grey's Anatomy</em>'s "Seriously". Michelle Tanner's "You got it, dude". Red Foreman's "Dumbass". Jack O'Neill's "For crying out loud". Fred Flintstone's "Yabba Dabba Doo!". Bugs Bunny's "What's up, Doc?". Winnie the Pooh's "Oh bother", Piglet's "Oh dear, oh d-d-dear-dear", and Tigger's "Whoo-hoo-hoo-hoo!", not to mention the Tigger song.

    Nov 16, 2009
  • FaithvsSam

Legendary! Yes! Also there should be '"suit up!", "Haaaaaave you met Ted?" and "True story." I say "True story" all the time now. That, and grey's "seriously, seriously?" That caught on, A LOT.

    Nov 16, 2009
  • n8v7n3

How about this catchphrase from ESPN's sports analyst Chris Berman- "He... could... go... all... the... way!"

    Nov 16, 2009
  • joy9585

awesome list! I totally forgot about SNL's "ignorant slut", but it's totally true at number one! Love Full House, HIMYM, and Friends all got on the list!Oh, bigglewigs- another good one! Maybe instead of that Family Guy one...
