TV's newest sex symbol: A vintage black Porsche

Speaking of cars on television, when did a dirty black Porsche become the requisite accessory for TV rebels without cause? Case in point: Californication's Hank Moody (David Duchovny) and Saving Grace's Grace Hanadarko (Holly Hunter) -- two very similar characters from two different shows who drive the same set of wheels.

Coincidence? A shared prop closet? We're not sure. Maybe a black Porsche 911 Carrera is the unofficial symbol of aging, oversexed anti-heroes in Hollywood. Maybe the folks at Showtime and TNT are staging an awesome crossover episode between the two shows many years in the future. Or -- dare we say it -- maybe TV is just getting stale.

Consider this, too: Knoxville.com reported earlier this week that the plotlines on Mad Men and Dexter were eerily similar last Sunday night. The wives of both Don Draper (Jon Hamm) and Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall) found out some pretty compromising information about their sneaky-snake husbands.

Plotlines, Porsches ... parallels. Just something to think about.

Oh, come on. Two battered porches and two instances of... whatever they mean is "tv getting stale", but the fact that any of the unavoidably badly written series trying to imitate Lost in the last five years absolutely MUST have a plane crashing or something equally catastrophic on their pilots meant nothing? House began by laughing at doctor soaps, five years later, how many unconventional doctors and/or gruff, unapologetic leaders of a bunch of talented young professionals have we seen? Not to mention the insane amount of procedurals and the even more insane amount of procedural spinoffs. The day Dexter, Californication, Mad Men and Saving Grace are the proof that TV is stale I will be a happy man and CSI won't be on TV anymore.

the old Porche is still better than any of the new cars offered in America. I think it is a stretch to call it a sex symbol for this reason but I think the Carrera always was and always will be a sexy car.

Don't you think that the car being in just 2 (mildly famous) shows is slightly too little to call it a "symbol"? Good car, though.

Dexter's wife didn't find out anything about him that would be considered "compromising". This article is just sensationalized crap.
