USA Puts On More Suits with a Season 3 Renewal

USA has finally ordered another season of its new hit Suits, which is currently on hiatus and halfway through its second season. Season 3 will run for 16 episodes when it gets underway next summer. Hey USA, just go ahead and order a fourth season and a fifth season now, why don't ya?

Suits' midseason finale, which aired in late August, set series records for ratings and drew 4.48 million viewers (plus a couple million more, after DVR figures were added in) and a 1.5 adult demo rating. It joins the recently renewed Royal Pains, White Collar, and Covert Affairs as a returning USA show.

You all seem to love Suits. What's so good about it? Convince me and maybe I'll break my "No USA shows" rule.

What do we love? The characters and the chemistry between all of the characters. Also, we ladies get some good eye candy here.

Sorry, not this lady. I don't find either of the male leads attractive at all. But I do love the show.

This show is extremely boring. I'm surprised so many people watch it. White Collar is far better and more interesting. If you are going to break your rule do it for White Collar, not for this sleeperfest.

White Collar is always better to me in theory than in execution. My mind always wanders when I try to watch and I end up not really even knowing what it was about.

I'm glad I like the rapport between Harvey and Mike. And we get a chance to delve deeper into Harvey's past. We know he was scarred by his father's death and his mother's betrayal. I hope they delve further. Inn one episode Harvey mentions he has a brother. Maybe he can hook up with Donna it;s kinda like what happened on Wil and Grace when Grace who couldn't have Will hooked up with his brother. And i hope they keep Mike and Rachel at a distance for now, I wonder if we'll see her father and maye he will be one who will out Mike in front of her. And maybe Jessica will finally get some, isn't that why she is so cranky. Maybe Harvey and Tanner can become co counsels in a case and Tanner hooks up with Donna.

That's great news! You should really give the show a chance. For me the best part is that all the main characters have a unique chemistry between them in their relation - the most obvious is between Harvey and Mike, but the relation between Harvey and Donna or Donna and Louis for instance is also a part of what makes the show really enjoyable.

What? Like a boring plot and endless cursing to make up for it? At least White Collar has really handsome and beautiful cast members with story arcs that entertain and have action.

As if there were ever any risk of them not picking up easily one of the best shows on USA. Loving it!!

I don't know Tim. If you don't like USA shows than maybe you won't like Suits. I happen to like USA shows. But Suits it's quite fantastic in every aspect that a show can be. It has a great cast. I truly like the entire cast but if I had to choose a few standouts Gabriel Macht, Sara Rafferty, Gina Torres, and especially Rick Hoffman are standouts. The writing is pretty darn fantastic and that's usually the biggest complaint for shows. They're a little grittier than the other USA shows with language and what not, which makes it more...real. The characters are fantastic as well, darn near all of them are very layered, they give you just enough to establish a character but still scratch away at the surface to keep you interested and wanting more. I'm even a huge fan of the music and the freaking wardrobe. That's how much I enjoy the show.

I agree....I like most USA shows...Suits, Covert Affairs, Royal Pains and White Collar...Only problem is they dont have many episodes per season..
Reply

But in a way, that's okay. It means fewer filler episodes because the overarching story lines have to get somewhere. They can't just drag out like the X-files.

like any good dramedy, it has amazing chemistry between almost every cast member. the dialogue is very witty without taking itself too seriously, and the characters each have defining characteristics which are leaned upon. some of those characteristics could be construde as illegal in certain states. hehe.

Suits is awesome! The characters all so intriguing and the writing is really good. I've seen other USA shows, and the writing in Suits surpasses them all. Season 1 was great, but Season 2 so far is so much better. Harvey Specter is awesome, if for no other reason watch it for him.

Rules only moderately dumber than a "No USA shows" rule:

"No HBO shows" rule.

"No AMC shows" rule.

"No Showtime shows" rule.

"No ABC shows" rule.

"No FOX shows" rule.

"No NBC shows" rule.

Wait. Scratch that last one.

What's good about it? Let's see....

- every relationship on this show is very unique and kinda has its own flavor

- every character is awesome but is allowed to make mistakes as well

- their lawyery epicness isn't just given, as if they're great because they're lawyers, it is more like they're great because they think they're great but the audience can very much catch their flaws yet love them even more because of those flaws

- they grow as characters (see Rachel + SATs - you'll understand once you start watching)

- the stakes are not high, it's their pride that makes them high

- the drama is not soapy and the comedy is not silly

- the characters

- Donna

- Louis

- Harvey

- Mike and his grandma (who's very important as a piece in the understanding of Mike's character not just a prop)

- the punchlines

- the movie quotes back and forth between Harvey and Mike

- the bromances, the galsmances ;)

- plus, did I mention the characters?=))

- everything

- just shut up and watch it!!!

Why no USA shows? Sometimes Timmy you can be a very silly boy! Sure, they take procedural to a new limit, but they're fun. Monk had great characters, and Psych has like 57 levels of awesomeness! White Collar can be great, but is turning into one big Ford advertisement. Suits though is really enjoyable. Loved the introduction of Daniel's character and I hope we haven't seen the last of him. And Donna! I love Donna. Damn she fine!

At the end of the day what keeps ppl coming back is the bromance! There I said it. Though not the kind Supernatural has, that ppl just have some kinky ideas abt regardless of the characters actually being brothers - whereas the fanfics everyone knows ain't as their characters!

See FriendsSherlock's comment! That pretty much sums it up!

The show is far from being black and white. It's all grey areas! Including the main characters. Plus the dialogue is pretty good, and Donna is the love of any man's life.

They don't suck. that's all I can say. But lets be clear - 'No USA shows rule', period! Do not break your rule, Tim.
Reply

Yeah, kick ass! Suits felt off at the beginning of season 2, but it really got awesome again right before the break. More more more! Season 4 and 5 as well? Listen to this man, USA!!!

Tim, Suits is basically like every other USA show, so you shouldn't watch it I guess because you hate awesome, fun, creative but not "desperately trying to swing for the Emmy fences" tv. ;-)

Suits is wonderful. It's smart, funny, suspenseful, has quotable lines and great characters. It's one of those shows you can really get into and start rooting quite hard for the characters in it. It has it's ups and downs like every other show, but it incorporates all the elements that make a very entertaining show. So why not watch it?
Reply

I wouldn't break your rule. It is not different than other USA shows. If you don't like Psych, it's not likely you're going to like Suits. If you do like Suits, you'll probably like White Collar. The USA DNA is very much in evidence.

I like Suits alot but I don't think it's for everyone. When it gets it right, it's great. However, the moratorium on USA shows is just a plain bad life decision. Psych is one of the most underrated shows on television and you should be ashamed of yourself and your despicable behavior. You are close to making this list...

ARE YOU SERIOUS TIM SURETTE. YOU CONTINUE TO BE THE WORSTTTTT TV CRITIC EVER TO WALK THE FACE OF THE EARTH. USA Network has produced SEVERAL shows that have blown big networks out of the water. Burn Notice, White Collar, Suits, are 3 of the best shows on TV

I don't know how many times I've called you a joke, but seriously man you are an idiot.

The truth is Tim is a top three reviewer for the site and no one disagrees with that. So as a reviewer, shouldn't you also be watching what's on USA if its shows are being acclaimed so highly by viewers? I don't mind his writing style, I do mind the arrogance though of saying "no USA shows" altogether. That just seems closed minded.

You know you are not required to come to this site and read his reviews, right? I enjoy Tim's writing even when I disagree with him, which is almost 100% of the time. Still, he's funny and he points out things I missed when watching the show.

You sir are the idiot. Tim is a top 3 critic on this site and majority of the people would agree. First of all yes burn notice, white collar and suits are very entertaining shows. I watch them and I do really like them but I would never ever say they are 3 of the best shows on TV. That right there tells everyone how credible your opinion is on TV shows. Instead of getting all worked up and upset like a child why do you not just do what he asked and try to convince him of watching the show.
Reply
Flag
OK few things, I very rarely post but your comments deserve a response dmh.

1) Being a top 3 critic on here is NOT a badge of honour!! It means you have much more spare time then other people.

2) Just because this guy thinks USA don't make good programs shows he is narrow minded for trivial reasons.

3) I admit the person you responded to was not particularly eloquent with their explanation but then neither are you. "but I would never ever say they are 3 of the best shows on TV" (American Idol I guess?)

These are excellent summer shows, if you're going to compare these to a mainstream show played during primetime in the winter slots, is that really a fair comparision? Are you going to explain, or denfend the OP so blindly because you live and breath TV.com?

Respect an OPINION and maybe you won't seem like the child.

You seem confused. The articles here are written by professional television critics. Tim doesn't write his reviews in his spare time, it's his job.
Reply

Obviously you must be a friend of PatrickAllen or something to even attempt to defend him from my response. Number one I never claimed being a top critic on here was a badge of honor but to come on here and bash someone for their work is completely disrespectful. This is one of the best sites out their for reviews on TV shows and the majority of the people love Tim's reviews. Number two I will never respect an ignorant persons opinion so in no way does that make me a child. Number 3 the reason I did not give an explanation is because most people already know that was a crazy statement and that I had no intention of aruging what show is the best. The only reason I made a comment was because of how ignorant his response to someone's review.

I watch almost every show you review and I can't believe you haven't seen Suits or Psych. It seems like the type of humor that would suit you (pun intended). Shawn and Gus bromance is something you can't miss, it's a successor of J.D and Brown Bear from Scrubs. Also, you will fall in love with Dona in Suits, just like the rest of us.

Tim, it's based on real life events. Nuff said. The mess this created for the law firm that did this was terrible. You need to watch, even if it's just to see Harvey in action. Great story-lines and just a feel good show :)

tim!! watch it !! seriously. i watch most of the shows you review, so i think you might like this one. the procedures they go through in order to defend their clients are amazing, and they always back up the identity of each character as well, who by the way are very different from each other, which is always nice to see. also there are no cheesy lines at all in this show, every phrase each character says is very well thought, the script is amazing, and the cast is also amazing. sometimes i hate every single person in a cast, but this one has managed to make me find some compassion for every single character, without revealing much besides their pure personalities.

You don't watch any USA shows?? WOW. I'm sorry for you. You don't know what you're missing. I watch almost all of them: Burn Notice, White Collar, Psych, Suits and the recently ended In Plain Sight. Comedy and Drama mixed together perfectly, great writing.

Just give each of those shows the 4 episode test. You don't like them after 4 episodes, don't watch them. My guess is you'll love them after the pilot.

Tim, you should give it a try in contrast to Revolution. Each an every character in this show is smart. They act smart and they have smart dialogs. It has a bit of Wall Street (the 1987 movie) put into a modern lawyer show, just with more funny jokes, and probably the best supporting character on TV: Donna.

Suits is not just awesoem its frigging rocks!

Harvey is a character for the ages, not to mention Mike ,The law stories a re also great. I even like Louis.

The script and acting are top notch day in day out.yeah it deserves a fyl season not a measly 16 episodes. Oh yeah did I mention the wardrobe is awesome too. Harvey and the guys suits are a joy to watch.

16 episodes is a full season for USA. That's what they do. It annoys me too, I'd like 22, maybe even 24 episodes, but at least it almost eliminates "filler episodes".

Suits is awesome. I love how Harvey can be both mean and callus and yet caring at the same time. I am intriguged by his relationship with Donna, his attitude towards Mike and I even like Louis. The show does a good job of making us interested in the backstory, the present and the future. I am a little tired of the Rachael and Mike on-again, off-again thing. It surely has to stop soon. I also like that death is not overlooked and it just has great story telling...also helps that Harvey is super Hot.

Louis is my favourite character. I don't buy Rachel and Mike at all. I think their relationship is the only weak thing in the show. Maybe it was a draw in the first season, but the show has really evolved beyond it. Rachel in general is a bit meh, its like she's only in it because of Mike's story, whereas everyone else is their own character.

Totally agree. Mike should have stayed with his mate's ex, Jenny. They really clicked and it could have made for an interesting story arc with his mate back on the scene. Please see above for details of my love for Louis!

Haven't see this show. as far as I can tell the only USA shows I don't watch are burn notice fairly legal and suits. burn notice I tried a partial episode and had no interest. fairly legal I gave a couple episodes and thought it was really stupid. just avoiding this because i have no real interest in courtroom dramas.

necessary roughness I fell is the best and most deserving of a renewal yet somehow is supposedly at risk? i love psych but felt it's fallen a few pegs in the later seasons. royal pains I watch but it's not something that really speaks to me, and covert affairs is a pretty good cable homeland or something with compelling characters being the main reason for sticking around. maybe that and hot women. and hot women kicking ass. okay covert affairs is a pretty great show =P

I highly recommend you watch it. If you like White Collar and/or Psych then you'll definitely enjoy Suits. It's more than just your average law show, and I say that as someone who watches a fair share of law shows. They pretty much have a perfect cacophony of everything, great writing, great cast, great characters, all the way down to the freaking wardrobe and music. It's gritty and has witty dialogue that isn't insulting to the audience. Great stuff. That show had me at the pilot but it really gained momentum season two and like doubled it's fanbase with the ridiculous writing. Highly recommend.

"Courtroom drama" is not really an accurate description of the show. (True fact: most lawyers rarely step into a courtroom.)
Reply

You should give it a try. Suits is definitely the best law show since Boston Legal, with very unique characters and good writing. At times it feels a bit like what would have happened if James Bond was a lawyer.

Wow Tim. No USA shows? Ever? I have to ask, what brought that on? Reruns of of Silk Stalkings? The network has gotten better? Killing off their US Open coverage? I have to admit that left me a bit sore.

But seriously I am intrigued as to what made you construct this rule and to seemingly by your statement adhere to it.

As per the rest down below. Psych is the single most underrated show currently on TV. And granted a good number of their shows are a little cheesy, and aren't going to win any awards. But they are generally good tv. With the exception of Covert Affairs, Necessary Roughness and whatever Burn Notice is turning into.

I would say to give it a shot. At least Psych.

The writing on this show is excellent as is all the main actors. The dialogue is sharp, tense, makes sense and also witty too. I am usually not one to watch lawyer shows, but this is terrific. I do wish they would stop with the on/again off/again Rachel and Mike. The things that happen to stop their "relationship" seem a bit too contrived. Gabriel Macht is very underrated and should receive more acknowledgement for his portrayal of Harvey. I am really looking forward to the second part of season 2. And Season 3!
