USA Renews Royal Pains for Two More Seasons

The doctor is in, and he's not showing any signs of slowing down!

USA has renewed its Hamptons-set medical dramedy Royal Pains for two more seasons, TV.com has learned.

Seasons 7 and 8 will each consist of eight episodes, and the show—which averaged 3.36 million viewers for its sixth season this past summer—will hit its landmark 100th episode in Season 8.

The two-season order, not unlike Royal Pains' last two-season order in 2012, cements the show as one of USA's longest-running series. Monk and Psych, the latter of which just ended last year, each ran for eight seasons on the cable network.

More HankMed (and especially Dr Sacani) is always a good thing. One of my fav shows.

Need more then 8 episodes per season though.

Why only 8 episodes per season? Season 1 had 12 eps. Season 2 had 18 eps. Season 3 had 16 eps. Season 4 had 16 eps. Season 5 had 13 eps and season 6 had 13 eps. So why only 8 episodes for season 7 and 8?

because it brings the total to 100. 100 and done for syndiction.

Actually with the 16 more it brings the total to 104. Anyhow they could have just done 16 eps in season 7 and forget about doing a season 8 if they were just trying to get to 100. So maybe there was another factor (like some of the cast were doing other projects as well as the show and they were only available for that many or they really are doing just one more season of 16 and they are splitting it into the 2 seasons).

That's great because I love the show, but come on, eight episodes a season?? Really?? I know it's always been that (I think) but that's crazy. If we have to wait each summer for the show we should get at least 10.

Royal Pains has always been a pleasant little show with a good cast, but it's definitely not appointment television. Two more 8-episode seasons is fine with me.

Wow, two more seasons my bet was on one, which i feel is all it needed for a decent ending. But i don't mind two more seasons.

Well... it's like two "half" seasons, or one FULL season.

With eight episode each they better cram a lot into each episode. Spend less time getting to know Hank's patients and less time trying to figure out their mysterious ailments.

"Your hives, fainting spells, and frequent urination are all symptomatic of an allergy to coconut." "But I don't eat coconuts." "I know, that what makes this weird. Wait, that hand lotion you use 3 times a day contains coconut oil. Mystery solved!"

Fine. Just renew Playing House already. Also Eliza Coupe is fantastic in the new Benched.

I honestly wouldn't have cared if it was cancelled at this point, I feel like every season has been lower quality wise.. and this past season was basically a Gossip Girl ripoff.

all this means to me is there is less money for USA to renew Playing House, which is a better series.

From last month's Deadline article: "The other first-year USA comedy, Playing House, did not do well in the ratings though it was well received by critics. I hear its renewal odds do not look very good."

I love that Royal Pains has been renewed for two more seasons (woo hoo!) but I wish the seasons weren't so short. Only eight episodes each?! I'm not sure how I feel about the new(ish) trend of shorter seasons.

Not too happy that its only an 8 episode order, would much rather it was 13, but I'm still glad to know that its been renewed.

This show has nowhere near the quality or humor of 'Monk' or 'Psych' and it has just been an awful meandering mess for the past 2 seasons. It was a decent show for a while that has been reduced to a godawful chore to get through the hour. My response to this news is.... Who Cares?

Psych turned into a complete mess the last two seasons, yet somehow they had a decent ending. I have no idea how it survived as long as it did.

That's nice, but so strange, this show is all over the map in character storytelling. Hopefully they figure out where they want everybody to be by the end, otherwise just ending on a status quo note will feel like a waste of 8 years.
