Veronica Mars off CW schedule

It's been an up and down the past few weeks for Veronica Mars fans. The future of the cult show looked grim but was momentarily turned around after network execs reportedly responded positively to new a direction for the next season. Then, word spread that the CW had picked up three dramas, making a renewal for the detective show unlikely.

Today, the CW released its schedule for the fall season, and--brace yourselves--Veronica Mars was not on it.

New to the schedule are three dramas--Reaper, Gossip Girl, and the newly named Life is Wild--the comedy Aliens in America, and reality shows CW Now and Online Nation.

Gossip Girl gets the advantage of following CW's top-rated show, America's Next Top Model and will air Wednesdays at 9 p.m. The show is a Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage (The O.C.) production and focuses on one of the world's most cutthroat battlegrounds: the social ladder of a posh Manhattan prep school.

The Kevin Smith-produced Reaper will follow Beauty and the Geek on Tuesdays. Bret Harrison stars as a burnout who works for Satan as a bounty hunter, following the accidental sale of his soul to the cloven-hoofed one by his parents.

Aliens in America gets slotted right behind Everybody Hates Chris on Monday night. The comedy is about the shakeup of a Wisconsin teenager's life after his mom hosts a foreign exchange student from Pakistan.

Sunday will see the most new programming, with the magazine-style show CW Now advising viewers on what it thinks is cool and hip, the YouTube-extension Online Nation, and the South Africa-based drama Life is Wild.

The drama One Tree Hill is returning but won't re-air until midseason. The show will also change drastically, advancing four years to the cast's postcollege life. To ease viewers into the new time period for the show, online journals will be posted throughout the summer detailing the characters' dormitory days

Other shows that will get a midseason run are Pussycat Dolls Present, back for its second season, and freshman reality shows the-title-pretty-much-says-it-all Farmer Wants a Wife and the mom-and-daughter beauty contest Crowned: The Mother of All Pageants.

Kristen Bell fans shouldn't storm the CW's corporate office yet. Though Veronica Mars isn't on the schedule, The Hollywood Reporter says a final decision on the show may not happen until next month.

Below is the 2007-2008 schedule for the CW.

Ugh. This is so horrible... but it didn't "conclude" so maybe there's still hope. At least Supernatural is still on.

Its so stupid. And now PD will still be on but Veronica is currently in the no where zone? CW suck!!

If it is canceled (Veronica Mars), the closest thing to a good show they will have is that Wrestling thing.

I am unbelievably shocked and disappointed in CW for axing VM. I understand that it's a ratings battle and that it wasn't doing so well, but cutting a show as good as VM does nobody any justice. At least i hope CW has the decency to let the producers wrap up the storylines. Even a single feature-length episode would be better than nothing.

It makes me so sad that they might cancel the show. Its not my fault I have to work during the time that its on so I record it and watch it later. It sucks so bad, I am planning on boycotting cw if the do get rid of vm.

    May 29, 2007
  • dracomik

I propose that we boycot CW. How about we only watch our favourite CW shows online for a month or two? If all VM fans do this they will see in the ratings that a lot of people support VM and maybe think twice about cancelling.

NO!!!! Don't take away my Veronica!!! What is happening with all the great shows leaving!!! I know it hasn't had great ratings but seriously that could have something to do with the fact it's not on continuously every week.

  • Tina601

They've got to be kidding. The show that will replace Veronica Mars' time slot sounds ridiculous. ALL the new shows are ridiculous!!! How do they even get their ratings?? Idiots.

    May 25, 2007
  • Oberon34

Smallville is the best show on the CW and Veronica Mars is the only other show on here that I watch. It would help if the cw was available in more places, since the new channel, i have to wait until the next day to watch them.

  • robyndiva

Veronica mars is undoubtably the best show ever, started watchin last summer and o.m.g....never missed an episode!!

  • Phaker

VM is an awesome show. Cancelled? I think not. As any Veronica fan knows there is always a twist in the end.P.S. Keith could still win the paper is often not read on the day of election. Lots of people vote on their way to work. But then they regret their vote putting on the pressure on the elected but regretted Sheriff Keith Mars.

  • Nygal94

I just started to watch Veronica Mars this season. I am so glad i did, i am addicted to this show!! They just canceled Gilmore girls, they cant cancel veronica too. No one is going to want to watch the CW if they strt adding all new shows and not keeping any of the good ones, that people love

    May 23, 2007
  • esorrell

Veronica Mars was a fresh show with awesome writing and Kristen Bell is a great actress. I agree that these reality shows are becoming ridiculous and I could care less who the next PCD is. It would be nice if another network could pick up so the show could get better advertising and be seen by a wider audience. I wonder if they count viewership by people who record shows now since some of us work when the show is on...

    May 23, 2007
  • nikki_luv

I must say that i am beyond bitter that they have canceled Veronica Mars. The show is great and now i have no reason to watch the CW, i used to love it when it was the WB it had all my favorite shows now there is nothing good on that Channel anymore with Veronica Mars. I think that another Network should pick it up if they were smart.

    May 23, 2007
  • Cynthia0688

i Hope it gets renewed! i think its a great show, and i want to see how it all plays out.

    May 22, 2007
  • B_621

i hope that some one from CW would read these comments!! Then they would know how much trouble they will be if they dont put Veronica Mars back!! I just started watching this, and the next thing you knw its getting canceled!!!!!!! WTH????

This network is just going down the drain, there taking off all the good shows.

  • amonroe83

They cancelled 7th Heaven, All of Us, Gilmore Girls, Reba, and no Veronica Mars. The only good shows left are One Tree Hill, The Game, and Girlfriends. What is CW trying to do?? They better not take One Tree Hill off the air, and what is the deal with it starting mid-season???

    May 22, 2007
  • hhcraven

I am very disappointed in the CW. Now that 7th Heaven, Gilmore Girls, and Veronica Mars are all gone, I no longer have any reason for watching this network. I hope they know what they are doing

    May 22, 2007
  • jaikeb

They renewed Smallville and that's been crap for at least two seasons. VM was a bit bumpy this year but still excellent. Why do we need even more reality shows? CW are bunch of moron's.

    May 22, 2007
  • DaniDiva

I was terrified that VM was going to jump the shark and push it a few years ahead, and THEN I found out that it was a way of saving themselves, and now they might not even get a chance!! CW Needs to come onto these forums on the internet and see what's happening across America. VM is the ONLY show I watch on this channel now that 7th Heaven is long gone. And to think, back in the days of Dawson's Creek and whatnot it was my fave show. VM is unique, it's original, it's fresh, and it speaks to everyone. PLEASE DON'T CANCEL! The show has only had 2 years to make a name for itself, and it did. They are going to keep GIRLFRIENDS over VM??? WTF Man!moreless

    May 22, 2007
  • jaggermuse

So much for the CW. Consider me an ex-viewer. VM was the only reason to watch. Let's hope the stupid reality shows die a quick death.

    ohhhhhhhh, plz, add V Mars

Why cancel a show that is popular in other countries too... This show is the best on tv, no one over, beside or below! Its PERFECT!!

  • Vickifb

I cannot believe this!!!! Is there something WE can do?????????????? Anything??? I know petitions are kinda stupid, but I feel like i have to do something. We can´t lose VM!!!!!!!!

    May 21, 2007
  • fermaldehyde

most of the show's that they're renewing aren't even close to half as good as vm... omg its just so disappointing. vm is such an amazing show! why can't they just open their eyes and see that rather than take their chances with crumby new shows?

    May 21, 2007
  • d1zzymzl1zzy

Not looking forward to a TV life without Veronica Mars. C'mon midseason replacement or a pick up by another network. I sadly cannot boycott the CW, I just love Supernatural too much.

    May 21, 2007
  • AnelaKai04

It saddens me that the network has decided to cancel Veronica Mars. It's one thing to cancel Gilmore Girls when both lead actresses are wanting to move on to other things and their contracts are up. It's entirely different to cancel a show the actors love making and are under contract. It's also pretty sad that the only thing on TV these days is "reality" TV shows... Pretty soon there will be no "reality." This decision by CW now helps me save money since I'm moving to a new house I have no use for Cable so yay for the extra 50 bucks I'll be saving a month! Good luck CW, you're going to need it!

    May 21, 2007
  • ira_singhal

They really did that????????? VM was the best thing on the damn channel! I am convinced now that all channel people are actually ***ed and the neilson guys put the boxes in specifically those homes who dont actually even watch tv i think!

    May 21, 2007
  • Marie222

I love the show and still think Enrico Colantoni is hot!

    May 21, 2007
  • Corko21

Im glad they left Supernatural alone, but know what you people are talking about (I Don't watch any shows on CW besides SN and smallville). It sucks ass when a show you like is cancelled, let alone when its cancelled for some POS reality show (my latest run-in was the Black Donnelly's). It is the fault of America's ***ed viewership, at least 8-10 million people are watching/leaving their channel on these crap shows. WAKE UP PEOPLE!

  • wick05

Congratulations CW, you just shot yourself in the foot!

    May 21, 2007
  • music_gurl411

The CW are being total idiots. They take off one of their best shows, after Smallville. Probably one of the few shows that could pull even semi-decent ratings next year for them thats not some random reality show. It's totally lame and ***ed. And all the new shows look completely unintelligent. So lame

    May 20, 2007
  • the7thFRIEND

CW is screwing up big time. their new shows sound really out there and i dont think they will last. they are taking one of the best shows off and putting on really bad ones. and the idea for oth of skipping the college years sounds awful and the blog explaining those years is an even worse idea!

Well, I guess I can just say, "goodbye to my little friend". 'Cause this lineup for fall spells no hits, no runs for the CW. I hope that a smarter, revamped Veronica Mars will return to the network (or some other network, for that matter.) Well, there's still Smallville and Girlfriends...

    May 20, 2007
  • TVObsessee

I'm totally baffled. They cut off all of their old shows? The good stuff is gone, and they are trying to start fresh. That is never a good idea, they need to keep some of the old stuff just so they don't go under. They may not want to say it, but the CW never got the best ratings. To say that they want to cut it all out is crazy.
And I totally agree with y'all about those Neilson people. Can we destroy the people that listen to those ratings? Don't answer that, it's crazy. I can't believe it.
