Daytime television added another piece to its puzzle yesterday, as the vacant seat on the women's chit-chat show The View was finally filled. Emptied when Rosie O'Donnell left the show in June, the seat will now belong to Whoopi Goldberg, View host Barbara Walters announced.
"I have known Whoopi for years. She is brilliant, funny, and irrepressible, and is an enormously popular and talented star. We are delighted that she is going to join the program as our moderator. This is going to be a great new chapter for The View," said Ms. Walters.
Whoopi was the leading candidate and obvious choice for the position. The comedienne has plenty of experience on the gabfest, having been a guest 13 times, and guest-hosted 14 times. Whoopi also brings a bit of needed ethnicity to the program, which has been lacking in color since Star Jones left the panel last year.
Goldberg joins Walters, comedian Joy Behar, and former Survivor star and Rosie-nemesis Elisabeth Hasselbeck as the show's hosts. The first episode to feature Whoopi as a regular will be the show's 11th season premiere, which airs September 4. For more information on The View, read TV.com's previous coverage.

I wouldn't watch "The View" again as long as Whoppi Goldberg is on. I thought it was disgusting when she took up for someone, Mike Vick, who tortured and killed animals. I bet if she went thru what those dogs went thru, she wouldn't be taking up for him.
I never watched the view before Rosie! with Rosie I never missed an episode. Sense Rosie has left I vow to never watch again no matter who they put in there. Rosie spoke for the middle class people. The people that would have no voice. So Rosie wherever you go I will be there to rute you on. Thanks a million!
I don't know. I mean I like Whoopi as an actress, but not as a talk show host. One thing's for sure though, she'll be a definate improvement over Rosie.
what??? Whoopi Goldberg??? it's a bad idea
I think she is a good actress, but I won't watch her on The View.
I think they are replacing the 5th one with the fat black chick from that fat girl show about a tv anchor, with Eric Roberts, from a few years ago... Andy Dick was in it...
wait..so they replace one far left person with another? goood job. Should be someone neutral, they just wanna recreate rosie.
So, Whoopi joins Barbara, Joy & 'Lizbeth; this show is supposed to feature *five* women with different viewpoints. Who's number five?
great choice, Whoopi rocks :D
great choice, Whoopi rocks :D
What an awesome replacement for Rosie. Whoopi Goldberg is fabulous and Rosie is gone. The View might be worth watching again.
That is so excited. She will add some much needed flavor to the show.
If you watched the Jay Leno show last night what he said about how it happened was pretty funny.
I like Whoppi. Still won't watch the View though.
WHOOPID DO!! WHO CARES!!
