War of the words for Tom Cruise and Matt Lauer

Hollywood "top gun" Tom Cruise became agitated when being interviewed by Matt Lauer on the Today show. Cruise, who has hit out at modern psychiatry as "evil," was asked by Lauer about his recent criticism of Brooke Shields for taking anti-depressants to combat post-partum depression. "Evil" doctors often prescribe medication to moderate the hormonal imbalance in women who have just given birth.

Cruise, who adopted all of his children, told Lauer that he didn't know what he was talking about. "You don't know the history of psychiatry. I do," Cruise said.

The mood of the interview degenerated further when Lauer pressed Cruise about the actor's dislike for the attention-deficit disorder drug Ritalin. Lauer asserted that he had known several people who had been helped by Ritalin, to which Cruise responded: "Matt, Matt, you don't even -- you're glib. You don't even know what Ritalin is. If you start talking about chemical imbalance, you have to evaluate and read the research papers on how they came up with these theories, Matt, OK. That's what I've done."

In addition to studying the history of psychiatry and assessing medical reports, Cruise is starring in a new movie, a remake of War of the Worlds.

    Tom Cruise is a psycho.

Tom Cruise has played some classic roles but this role he played as a scientologist may finally be his demise. Why go making outrageous claims if you haven't the research to back it up? He came off as so ignorant and rude and definately made me think lesser of him. What a crazy. Katie run away from the has been!!

Know you understand why he had to fire his publist. She was obviously keeping him in check all these years.

It's hard to understand following a religion that was founded by a person who committed suicide.
I guess that's the answer to mental illness for Scientologists, instead of psychiatric help and medication.
Maybe Cruise will do the same and put us all out of the misery of his idiocy.

I think TC got mostly annoyed not so much about the psycho drugs but about that embarrassing difference in education and intelligence between himself and Matt Lauer (and probably many others TC remembered at that very moment). At age 42 you don't find it so cool anymore to have dropped out of high-school.

Oh, and also, with that water gun thing. He was talking to that dude like a teacher talks to a special education student. Watch his reaction (and repitition) if you can find the clip. He's an ***.

Tom Cruise better tighten up his thetan regimen - he's not in Clear mode.
I'm hoping that this whole Katie Holmes thing was a publicity stunt. Seeing how it's completely blown up in their faces. Katie is off the next Batman movie because of it and most of the country now things Cruise is an arrogrant ***. This publicity is going over about as well as a lead balloon. Hopefully it'll end Cruise's career and we won't have to hear any more of his swill.

Can I just add that Matt Lauer is known for being intelligent. It's not like he's some pretty boy spouting whatever lines are put in front of him, like, say... Tom Cruise.

I actually feel sorry fot this guy. He got on the path of Scientology and it has slowly started to mess with his mind. I'm guessing that the only reason Katie is with him is because she thinks she can help him, or that he can help her career. If it's the latter, then I'm afraid she's in for a rude awakening because as people's opinions of Tom decline, so will there opinion of her. I'm just gonna keep praying for both of them. They need it.

I think Tom (A High School dropout) is simply jealous of the people who actually will have a career in another five years. I'm sorry, but his looks are REALLY starting to go and this whole nonsense is really making him look to be quite a whacko

Tom Cruise gets more money in one year than any scientist, doctor, or phycatrist. when tom cruise has a cold does scientology make it go away if tom cruise gets a headache does his beliefs in his way of life relive the pain . the answer is No. I like Tom and all his movies but untill he is willing to open up his own clinic he should stay out of it.. Thank you chris buffalo ny..

Guys, he is only an actor. His job is to entertain. Not to educate, solve world peace or even cure cancer. Just watch his movies - that is what he is good at and what he is paid for - and enjoy them. He is best when he is saying lines someone else wrote!

Common people! Don´t be angry at Tom! He is not the idiot you say he is! He is just plain crazy! The man is totally koo koo! He is a goner! He needs HELP not criticism! I feel very sorry for him! His end seems rather dark!

I think this is sad. Can someone, tell me what hapend to the real Tom Cruise. Where is he, cause this is not the Tom I grew up seeing. I feel like I'm watching MI:3. And Tom is gonna pull of his fake mask only to reveal L.Ron Hubbrd's face. If loving Katie Holmes, and being a Scientologist. Makes you act like a wacko arrogant butthead, who think's he knows everything. Then I'm buying a ticket for a seat on the mothership next to Xenu, cause it is so over. In recent interviews has he talked about War of The Worlds at all???? Poor Spielberg.

Tom Cruise is out of control I mean come on you can't even say Ritalin has helped my son that has ADD without him exploding in your face. This Tom is scary and creepy, don't take Katie down with you.

  • hymefly

I wonder what Tom's formal education consists of. I happen to have Master's Degree in Psychology. I can tell you Tom does not have any clue on the benefits of medicine. He's just a has-been actor looking for publicity. Have you noticed how Nicole Kidman seems alot more happier since he left the bastard! His demise as an actor is only gonna get worse.

Cruise has lost his marbles. Being engaged to someone who could be his daughter, in Hollywood true love is rare. This is probably just a publicity stunt, and guess what...it worked. The entire country has to hear about how happy Tom is on Oprah, and at the premiere of Batman Begins, the man who plays Batman had no attention, it all went to Katie and Tom. Like they said on VH1, the most valuable item from the premiere of Batman Begins is a Tom Cruise signed poster. He wasn't even in the movie. Get a life Tom, Nicole seems to have moved on and is making great movies without having to date men have her age. You should try the same thing.

Tom Cruise's personal views toward therapy and drugs appear to be heavily weighed down by his personal values to do with his own religion. The fact that he will brush off the suggestion that there are instances where therapy and drugs have WORKED only suggests that his research has been linked to mainly biased resources at best. While this is a free country, Mister Cruise would do well to consider widening his supposed vast research to both sides of the spectrum and until then keep his trap shut.

Is this what love does to a guy? If Katie has a brain in her head she'll pull Tom aside and tell him to come back to Earth for awhile. If anybody didn't think Cruise was an idiot before.... Cruise is a perfect example of someone who is out of touch with things real.

Tom Cruise is a nutball. I always thought he was a pretty descent actor who made pretty good movies. But since he has become more out spoken on medical and psychiatry issues that he has no right to criticized---since he is only high school educated and never went to college---the sheer stupidy of him now amazes me. I will still see his movie "War of the Worlds" but I definitely think less of him as a person in general.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and Tom Cruise needs to understand that. You can't try to tackle a proven and highly accepted science and just expect eveyone to believe you based on solely your word. Telling everyone that they are wrong and only his opinion is the worst possible approach. If he has a rebuttle to valid questions then answer, and if he doesn't have an answer than graciously admit that you don't have all the answers.

Cruise's PR has been spiraling down ever since he divorced Kidman.

Cruise wants more and more attention. He justified his lunacy in this interview.

And he wants to deprive kids with ADD and ADHD of Ritalin? Does he know how Ritalin helps these kids?

I was enraged when I watched this. Katie should follow Jennifer Wilbanks and go away from him as FAR AS SHE CAN. He is a nutcase as far as I'm concerned.
no jsd the only path to mental health is u. if you have mental issues. only u can choose to overcome them. medicine and pschychiatrists only play a small part. In the end its all u. U can be weak and let it destroy u whatever the problem may be. Or u can fight it and win. I used to be depressed and very angry. I decided one day to over come and it was hard. but i won. and now im happy.

Oh and another thing... He was on the Australian 60 Minutes a few weeks back, and the reporter asked a simple question about Nicole Kidman (you would think that he would've expected it since she is Australian and he has just be acting up is ''love'' for katie holmes) anyway, Tom went off at the reporter saying he stepped over the line and such.
He really needs to see a psychiatrist.

About the Tom Cruise-Entertainment Weekly thing, I found that interview extremely disrespectful - I wrote a letter into EW telling them my thoughts, and it could be published. If it is, I'll tell ya all.

Cruise is a Scientologist, so it's no surprise to find him spouting the Scientology party line. Psychiatry is evil, medicine for your brain is a scam, the only path to mental health that works is Scientology.

Scientology is not stupid - they get these big celebrities under their spell and use them to push their agenda in the media. That's how you get Cruise on the Today Show talking psychiatry, and John Travolta making Battlefield Earth.

Tom Cruise doesn't have any medical training and I doubt he's experienced post-partum depression. He should keep his mouth shut.

Cruise is beyond stupid. Entertainment Weekly did a pretty good job of making him look like an idiot during an interview a couple issues back--basically debunking his outrageous claims regarding psychiatry with the one thing that Cruise himself has never done: research.
