Warehouse 13 Lucky for SyFy

Rule #1: Female FBI agents are hot.

No one will mistake Sci-Fi Channel SyFy's new show Warehouse 13 for Battlestar Galactica in terms of critical acclaim, but it is looking better as far as ratings go. The newest addition to SyFy averaged 3.5 million viewers during its two-hour debut on Tuesday night, placing it third among series debuts on the network.

Only Stargate Atlantis (4.2 million viewers in 2004) and Eureka (4.1 million viewers in 2006) got off to better starts on the cable channel. However, as TVByTheNumbers points out, Warehouse 13 was lacking in the key demographics department. The site notes that despite having 1.1 million fewer overall viewers, the series finale of Battlestar Galactica had 300,000 more viewers in the coveted 18-49 year old adult demographic.

Nitpicking aside, it's a promising start for Warehouse 13, which is a perfect example of SyFy's new direction to pull in a broader audience. Warehouse is in the same vein as its top-rated show Eureka; it's light and fluffy and serves more as a comedy with sci-fi elements rather than a gloomy doomsday science-fiction show.

We'll see how Warehouse 13 holds up, but given the mediocre storyline and cliche characters from the premiere, don't hold your breath. Hey, at least it's better than Flash Gordon.

Bonus Paragraph: SyFy also used Tuesday as an opportunity to unveil its new promo for the network's makeover, and there isn't one nerd or geek in sight. I guess they're cool now?

I thought it was pretty good, in fact the best part of it was the comedy

Guess the promo was better than the episode itself, but I am giving it a few episode to see how it develops.

It is a good rating for the premiere, but I was a bit disappointed!

BeachfrontGlass said it all in his first post. I'll just add: lose the fluf and give us more hard sci-fi.

Recorded it, it's sitting on the DVR, but I've got no desire to watch it right now. Maybe after several eps and reviews, but the networks have left me uncaring. If it's good, hopefully viewers will count even if they're not Neilsen families. . . . .

wtf. syfy wasted money another crap omg whts with all the comedy in new shows starting to be annoying. BTW make some awesome show like Star Trek or Andromeda, firefly, farscape now those some awesome syfy's. Warehouse 13 who have been better if they cut all the unwanted stupid comedy out and make the story line little serious.

Warehouse 13 is alright. At least it's something to watch during a dreadful summer drought. What Syfy needs to do, is bring Doctor Who into the spotlight, as that show is one of the best, if not, THE best Sci-Fi shows out there right now. Instead it's buried deep in early morning timeslots and nobody can catch that.

I just dl'd it and watched it. Not very interesting. Remember that old show from the 80's Friday the 13th The Series? Warehouse 13 reminds me a little too much of that. It was that but without the gore. I liked The Chronicle better. How about a real comic book show? Something a little cheesey ala Mutant X or even The Greatest American Hero.

I actually prefer "gloomy doomsday science-fiction show" over the light and fluffy ones. If they try to hard to make it too comedic from the start, then it has the risk of becoming too cheesy and cliche down the road. I prefer it when the humor is interjected in between actual plot and acting.

It is better than some of that other crap over the years...why try to crucify a show after one episode! They did that with Dollhouse and if memory serves me right, it was picked up for a 2nd season. Try again folks!!!

I watched the pilot and gave it a 6.5. It had it's moments, but not really enough to keep me immersed in the show. I'll spot it another few episodes before I decide to keep or drop it.I'm waiting to see how the new Stargate turns out...and maybe Caprica. Other than that, SyFy has really been losing my interest over the years.

Well, I liked Warehouse 13, but that is also pretty much what i have watched from that channel since Jake 2.0, i think. Star Gate and those kind of sci-fi-shows have always been to lame for my taste, they seems so undevolped, it reminds me of bad b-movies from the 60's. But what has this channel else to offer.

Nice promo, wished they had nice shows still...I mean, now that BSG is almost (still waiting for The Plan) done, and that they killed the two other great SciFi shows they had (SG and Atlantis even if SG was only the shadow of it's greatest moments once RDA left), what are they going to promote? TransMORPHERS?! or other bad copy movies?Sure there is the new Stargate franchise and Eureka, but nothing on the horizon like BSG. The saddest thing being good SciFi shows made by Fox that could have had a good life on a network that would have backed them (terminator!).

I've said it once I'll say it again, SyFy is BS. Science Fiction, it's what the channel's about. They're just trying to make an excuse to expand so they can rip off other shows. I mean really, what's with all the British stuff. I agree with ditching the documentary crap and reality trash, but go for quality (this does not include what is recommended below by BeachfrontGlass. Really dude? Highlander?) Anyway, I'm not really up for this new show Warehouse 13. I think the audience turn out speaks for itself. It seems like an altered version of Eureka, it doesn't have the good acting/casting and plot of Atlantis, etc.

4 million views is crap for most shows since they usually average 10 million or more in the case of csi vegas.
as for the trailer thing you put up its nice but they put more effort into that than the name change or any of their shows DX. their so full of fail

Ditch the gameshow/fake documentary/reality show crap, ditch wrestling, ditch the horrible movies on the weekends. Bring in new shows like a new Highlander spinnoff, Terminator:SC Chronicles, reinvent Ocean Girl from Australia, pick up StormWorld, get some stuff with a plot!
