Great things happened when Jimmy Fallon returned to Saturday Night Live as a host earlier this season, so why shouldn't the same happen for Maya Rudolph, another alum who has gone on to post-SNL success with roles in Bridesmaids and on NBC's Up All Night? Teasers for the show feature Rudolph and Andy Samberg fooling around in a production office. Watch them open a time capsule full of "yarp"-inducing rotten salmon, converse with a flying shark, and wear multiple pairs of cheap sunglasses in a sequence that reminded me of Rudolph's fine work in Mike Judge's underrated masterpiece, Idiocracy:
Rudolph left behind a long line of memorable characters, one of which she reprised recently during the Steve Buscemi-hosted episode: Whitney Houston. And the chances of her doing it again this weekend are zero—though it's worth pointing out that Rudolph never played Houston's addiction for laughs; she more just played up Whitney's outsized reality show persona, with lots of shoulder shrugging and random shouting.
But what other characters might Rudolph reprise?
There was Brittanica, tough-talkin' member of all-girl RnB group Gemini's Twin.
And don't forget ragtime legend Scott Joplin, who traveled through time and hosted a tennis show called "Tennis Talk."
Then there was discombobulated lounge singer Charli Coffee.
No one does Oprah like Maya does Oprah.
For years, Maya was one half of the exhausted, soccer mom duo who co-hosted "Bronx Beat," playing Jodi Deitz alongside Amy Poehler's Betty Caruso.
Then again, just Maya Rudolph being Maya Rudolph is funny itself. Remember when she seduced Shia LaBeouf in her dressing room?
Maya hosts this Saturday, Feb. 18, with musical guest Sleigh Bells. Will you be tuning in?

by the way, this (viedoes can only be streamed within the US policy) sucks :(
we cant all live in the U.S! who will you make fun off then?
HELL YAAAA SNL ROCKS!!
Cant watch any of the clips...I dont live within the USA.
I'm hoping against hope for the Nunis. Shoop!
Well, I do hate her on Up All Night, her character single-handedly causing me to stop watching after 2 episodes. But her lame Whitney Houston is likely to be absent from this SNL, so that's a plus. I dunno, I'll probably DVR it and then decide later.
Haha tell it like it is, JT!
