Watch the First Footage of Star Trek: Discovery

CBS finally showed some footage of its long-delayed new series Star Trek: Discovery, which will premiere later this year, during its upfront presentation to advertisers.

The series stars Harry Potter's Jason Isaacs as Captain Lorca, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon's Michelle Yeoh as Captain Philippa Georgiou and The Walking Dead's Sonequa Martin-Green as First Officer Michael Burnham. Earlier on Wednesday, the first character photo of Yeoh and Martin-Green was released.

The trailer focused on Martin-Green's journey to having her own command -- though she's finding it difficult to find her way to the front as Star Fleet is attacked by Klingons and new threats.

Everything you need to know about CBS' fall schedule

"Great unifiers are few and far between but they will come," James Frain as Spock's father Sarak says in an ominous voice over as he coaches Burnham through a moment of strife. Sarek serves as the Vulcan ambassador to the United Federation of Planets in the new series that takes place 10 years before Captain Kirk and Spock take off on the U.S.S. Enterprise.

CBS also announced that Star Trek: Discovery has been expanded to 15 episodes and will be accompanied by an after-show Talking Trek.

(Full disclosure: TVGuide.com is owned by CBS.)

I m making over $9-k a month working part time. I kept hearing other people tell me how much money they can make online so I decided to look into it. Well, it was all true and has totally changed my life.
This is what I do..

I predict this fall there will be a hit show about people traveling about in space: The Orville.

There may be 15 episodes, but how long are they? 15 minutes? If CBS was serious about the show they would be airing it on broadcast TV. Fortunately I'll be watching it on Space in Canada. And I suspect many Americans will be watching those broadcasts as well in one way or another.

No clue where to say this, but why isn't there anything about Twin Peaks season 3 on this site?

It hasn't even aired yet according to this site.

This is bullshit. This site is bullshit. Liam - you should be embarrassed and ashamed in your role in the DESTUCTION OF TV.COM! This site is nothing more than a PIMP site for CBS and TVGUIDE! Just look at all the disclaimers now - since there is not ONE ORIGINAL THING posted to this site by staff (and i use that word LOOSELY) anymore! Yall should have seen this site a few years ago - killer reviews - great conversations - but just look at how site visits have PLUMETED over the last year or so. CBS killed this site on purpose - funnelling all the traffic right over to TVGUIDE. Ugh. Fuck Your Star Trek - how's that CBS? Again - what a total piece of shit this site has become. All the regulars like me are GONE - I'll be off discussing the new season of 12 Monkeys over at various websites than can easily be found in a google search. You know what doesn't come up in google searches anymore - this site - cause it's USELESS and NOBODY COMES HERE. BIH CBS, Liam, Kaitlin, Tim, and everyone else who MADE THIS SITE DIE - ON PURPOSE!

So glad to see the people on tv.com aren't being as negative as those on Facebook. Goodness, you'd think this incarnation of Star Trek ran over their dog. It looks relatively interesting to me - worth giving a shot. I don't understand the hate on other sites with people saying it's crap. It's not even aired yet. Maybe it will do poorly as Enterprise did...or maybe it will do well and be an excellent addition to the franchise. The producers/writers/whoever have a lot of canon to deal with and can easily work a new cast and story into a vast world. Give it a chance, people. Bring it on!!

lady_catseyes,

"I don't understand the hate on other sites with people saying it's crap."
I'll keep an open mind and check it out, but If you have seen really good character driven Trek e.g. Deep Space Nine, you'll understand why people think the last several trek movies ain't great.

Oh don't get me wrong, I understand why some people feel this way. But seriously...it's like "well the rest of them except TOS have been crap so I'm not even going to watch this one". How do you know unless you see it?

Agreed. Though I wonder if the nature of how movies get made today limits us to action action and more action. Watch prelude to axenar. Watch an amazing fan made animated star trek trilogy:
Those are great character driven Star Trek. Then again we have reality TV and clones and really good TV shows e.g. ever see Forever I think it was called get cancelled.

Am so glad to see another Star Trek series. Love the whole Star Trek scifi universe. I hope they do away with the whole emotion thing and base stories on scifi. I hates Counsellor Troi and that Star Trek series was my least favourite of the lot. .

Another Star Trek prequel? Didn't they learn any lessons from doing Star Trek: Enterprise? Enterprise was the least successful of all the spin-offs and it was part, because it was a prequel. I hope that they at least made this show better than Enterprise.

I like when prequels help lay out the legend. Like how Enterprise explained why there were two types of Klingons between the original series and the movies/TNG, etc. They were different subspecies because of the genetic tampering. Now it looks like there's another subspecies.

It was something that they did not have to explain. The real reason was that they had better make-up technology in 1967 then in 1987.
I also though they explained the differences in Star Trek: DS9 anyway.

There was no explanation. Bashing asked if it was a genetic mutation and Worf just didn't want to talk about it. Everybody who watches the show knows that the real reason is the advances in makeup, but it opened up the topic when they actually showed both onscreen at the same time. Enterprise rocks.

Bashir asked...And there wasn't really much makeup used in 1967, just a Fu-Manchu.

It was not everybody's favorite at the time and it only lasted 4 seasons.

Yup I'm aware of that. As long as someone is a fan of the franchise I don't mind their order of preference, some change with time, I remember thinking Voyager was fairly terrible in parts and TNG was always excellent, re-watched them both recently and Voyager is way better than I remembered and TNG was very poor in some ways, DS9 (brilliant) and Enterprise are the only ones that my feelings of them didn't change on repeated viewings (obviously as the audience I have changed significantly from watching TNG in my late teens to rewatching in my late 30s and early 40s).

For me, it would be the reverse. Voyager came off as the weakest spinoff with only very few good episodes, whereas TNG was poor in some spots, but greatly improved until the final season, which had a number of weak episodes. Enterprise suffered from Trek overload, thanks to Voyager. But of all the spinoffs, it was DS9 that outclassed them all!

I am probably in the minority, but thought DS9 was the best overall spin-off.
