Watch the First Trailer for Netflix's Orange Is the New Black (VIDEO)

The next new Netflix series that subscribers will be able swallow whole is Orange Is the New Black, a comedy-drama hybrid from Weeds creator Jenji Kohan. It's based on the memoir of the same name by Piper Kerman, detailing the shock of a well-to-do white woman who ends up in a women's prison after a 10-year-old charge for running drug money comes back to bite her in the ass.

Netflix released the first trailer today, and you know what? It looks pretty damn fantastic.

Warning: NSFW language and almost NSFW boobs.

Even though I hadn't seen a drop of Orange is the New Black until now, I named it as one or our 10 Most Anticipated Summer Shows based on Kohan's (admittedly short) track record of excellent first seasons. I was a huge fan of the first two seasons of Weeds. But Orange Is the New Black looks even better than I had hoped, so this goes straight to the top of my queue. Kohan really knows how to nail that dramedic female voice.

And for those who want to know, the song in the promo is Rilo Kiley's "A Better Son/Daughter."

Netflix will release the entire first season of Orange is the New Black on July 11.

Is anyone else disturbed by the fact that their prison outfits aren't actually orange?

My wife loves women's prison pictures. So...we'll both be up for this series.

Watching the trailer gives me some form of reminiscence with regard to Kohan's earlier show Weeds, therefore I'm definitely giving it a try.

It looks like Kohan's at least nailed it with the ensemble cast. If it doesn't get all Life channel (based on a true story?!) it could be good but the outburst clip of I've been through this and that (Oi Vey Lady!) gives me the fear. Such over used statements and sentiment will sink this and they're about as effective long-term as requesting a taxi at the pointy end of a firing squad.
Weeds was fresh and fun for a good while but Kohan, thus far at least, tends to burn out the love for most all of his characters. Too many signs of another ultimately selfish and unlikable type in this and it's getting biatch flipped.

i hate prison stuff, even though it looks decent it's going to be hard to watch with a prison atmosphere.

Biggs shares the looks like but isn't thing with Michael Ian Black, in that Biggs looks so Jewish but isn't and MIB So gay but isn't. Perhaps they should be on Celebrity Wife swap. Oh, wait...

"I'm scared that I'm not myself in here, and I'm scared that I am." Nailed it. I'm in.

That line was easily the best part of the trailer for me.

Nice to see a Rilo Kiley mention. They never seemed to make it to the mainstream. Now they're gone. They deserved much greater recognition.

Taylor Schilling is pretty awesome. She's got huge potential and will be a big star one day. She even managed to sell me on watching Atlas Shrugged, based on her performance.

Dude. I remember thinking the same. Then somewhere in episode 3, it picked up and started transitioning from ok to great.

When I first heard the title and read the brief synopsis I was struck with an overwhelming felling of meh. But that clip was f*cking awesome. The cast looks to be brilliant, I must have recognised half of them and not a single one gave me that "oh God no, it's T. J. Miller" feeling. The first couple of seasons of Weeds were great and hopefully Kohan will have learnt from the mistakes of Weeds later seasons. I'm really looking forward to this now.

I'm always on the fence about "made-for-Netflix" shows, because I think well if it was good it would be on regular tv right? But then I remember "Firefly" and well, think again. I loved the show "Mercy" with Taylor Schilling and I was really bummed when it got cancelled (after ONE season) because she is fantastic! I will give this show a try, if only just to see her kill it.

If it's half as good as House of Cards, I'm in for the duration. And it looks as if it might be as good.

I don't think I was planning on trying this out, but now I think I will. I'm not sure how much I like Jenji Kohan, although I did really like the first four or five seasons of Weeds. Anyway, this trailer was pretty good and I recognized quite a lot of the secondary actors, so yeah, I'll try it out for a few episodes.

I've seen this trailer a couple times now. At first, I didn't really care much for what I saw, though it grew on me the second time. I'm not 100% convinced that it will be for me based on this trailer, but it does have potential, so I'll definitely be giving this show a chance.
