Watch the First Two-Plus Minutes of MTV's The Inbetweeners (VIDEO)

MTV is on a roll with scripted programming (if you consider two shows a roll), thanks to Awkward. and Teen Wolf. Next up for the former music channel is The Inbetweeners, a U.S. adaptation of the British hit about four teenagers who are manboys—not quite kids but certainly not men.

To get you ready for the series' debut on Monday, August 20, MTV has released the first few minutes of the pilot episode online. Joey Pollari (Disney's Skyrunners) stars as Will McKenzie, a buttoned-up kid who transfers to public school (poor kid) from a stuffy private school. But don't take my word for it, take Will's word in the show's trademark voiceover.

Hey look! It's Brett Gelman (Eagleheart, Go On) as the vice principal! But other than that, I'm not really seeing the charm of Awkward. or the ripped abs of Teen Wolf. Sometimes a sneak preview does wonders for a show, sometimes it doesn't. (Pssst! I don't think this one does!)

This looks horrible and I haven't even seen the British version yet.

The British version was good, but they nailed casting, and that made the difference. I'm worried.

The original was brilliant. I hope they do the series justice.

I am nervous about this show, we tend to ruin many shows when we remake them. British inbetweeners rules!!

Watching that made me cringe. So Bad. If I were any of those actors or really anyone involved, I would be ashamed.

to answer the news title...

do I have to? I'll be skipping this, just like I did for Skins... if the Misfits adaptation goes to MTV, I'm going to be really surprised if it doesn't suck..

I'm not impressed at all, but should I have been? I saw the original, which was very funny.

Can a US network make an adaptation of The Fades, please? (Preferably HBO or SHO) Pretty please!

or just do a Torchwood/Strike Back type of partnership so we can keep the original cast

Yeah, doesn't look all that great, wish America would learn with these British adaptations. They seem to be following what happened in the origional series pretty closely, down to the lines and everything. Still everything else is indeed a fail.

Plus its not like following every last thing that happened in the origional series necessarily guarantees a hit. The few Brit-to-American adaptations that have been good have proven to be good in their own individual way and dont just copy everything from the parent series.

One thing noticed in this preview, though, seems to me that the kid playing Simon pulled off the character pretty well. I mean he managed to portray his personality, can really imagine him as a Simon. All the other characters are crap though.

Seems like MTV already re-made the Inbetweeners when they produced Good Vibes and The Hard Times of RJ Berger. I'll check out the US version after I've finished the excellent UK version.

Would be nice if we could see the first two minutes of MTV's Good Vibes' second season, but we know that won't happen. :(

The one funny moment from that clip was seeing the actor portraying the disabled kid get hit by the football and fall over. Unless that actor is actually in that condition in which case I retract my laugh and state that this entire show seems pointless.

I might give it one or two episodes because MTV has impressed me so with "Teen Wolf" and "Awkward." but I have to say it looks like this one went the other direction.

Just like Skins and coming soon Misfits, they'll never be able to duplicate the angst over there. Or maybe I just like the accents.

i can't believe the assholes at mtv cancelled death valley. that show was brilliantly mediocre.

having watched skins the remake (as well as the original) i enjoyed the T&A and not much else. So i don't have high expectations for this. can't actually view the clip which is in a perpetual state of loading.

i'm fairly certain it was you, tim, who turned me onto the inbetweeners by mentioning the show in a post on the site. so what do you think?

Everything 'safibwana' said seconded.

Nearly everything about that clip was a failure. The orig. Inbetweeners was built of cheap, immature, gutter-level humor, but still had a quirky style and was often more clever than it seemed. This one is pure corporate garbage. HOW did they not learn this exact lesson after Skins? A lesson people making good money at MTV should have already known.

The only reason I'm glad this is being made, is that I figure the people who made the original are making some money off of this -until it gets the ax. Which it will.

This is one more piece of evidence that too many people in charge in America are too damn greedy, spit on artists and are damaging civilization.

Yeah, this isn't so much in the tradition of original MTV scripting programming like Awkward. and Teen Wolf as it is in the tradition of failed UK->US remakes like Skins, The IT Crowd, Coupling and (not enough room here for this list). So, uh, lower your expectations by uh, 100% or so.

For starters, casting fail, as everyone who knew this was coming predicted.
