Watch the Official Trailer for WGN America's Salem, Which Looks Like It Could Be Kind of Fun (VIDEO)

When it was first announced that WGN America was breaking into the scripted programming game with Salem, a show about witches, I'm pretty sure half of you went, "More effing witches?" and the other half went, "WTF is WGN America?" And I feel you on both accounts, because I'm kind of witched out at the moment, to be honest.

Between The Vampire DiariesThe Originals, Witches of East End, and American Horror Story: Coven, I could use a witch detox. But Hobo Shane West and Bearded Seth Gabel will not be denied. Unless, of course, you have better things to do or cannot be bothered to figure out whether WGN America is part of your cable package (it's there somehwere, I promise). I totally understand if that's the case, but before you make your final decision, watch this moderately fun and creepy first trailer for Salem. Because at the very least, we all need to discuss what looks to be a bloody wolf head on a human body.

Obviously, WGN American needs to hire someone who sounds a bit more menacing to do their voiceover work for the Salem trailers. But what do you think of this first look at the series itself? Too silly? Too many beards? Too many effing witches?

Salem premieres Sunday, April 20 on WGN America—are you planning to check it out?

While there are a number of shows about witches, to me, none of them have managed yet to be offensive. That said, if you can get over the political incorrectness of a plot wherein Salem witches are actual witch worships the Prince of Darkness, it looks promising.

In school we watched a video about how the grain fields in Salem were wet and filled with Ergot mold, which causes wild hallucinations and death if its unsynthesized.

The people of Salem didn't want to believe it was witches, but the test was to have the witch pee on a piece of bread and feed it to a dog. The dog began to run wildly around in circles, gnashing and breaking its teeth, and then suddenly died. This convinced the people of Salem they were dealing with witches.

This same type of tragic incident in European bread shops has been certified as responsible for numerous tragic accusations against women of witchcraft, and spreading hysteria and hatred of women across Europe.

Since most people don't know this, and even if they do, if they're into dark fantasy, I'm sure they'll check out the trailer to see if it's good.

It looks way darker than witches of east end which is more like a dramedy. I prefer darker show and shall give it a try.

This trailer is not inspiring, but I will watch the 10 minutes from the first episode before I decide if I will watch more then that or I will never look at it again. As I have said earlier about this show. If the witches are the good guys (girls) then I will watch the show. If the witches are the bad guys then they better be cool enough so that people are willing to watch them. Example for cool bad guys Katherine Pierce (The Vampire Diaries) Klaus (The Originals).

With American Horror Story coming to an end I'll have a spot in my viewing schedule so I'm going to give this a chance.

Not interested. For me the Salem witch trials are such a reminder of human ignorance and destructiveness of faith that even watching a fictionalized TV show of them makes me depressed. I don't feel like banging my head against a wall while watching TV, so I'll pass.

Nice try, Kaitlin, but you can't fool me. WGN America isn't a real channel!

Any witch series has to be better than CHARMED. I miss THE SECRET CIRCLE. If I can find WGN I will give it a try.

You can never have too many witches!! (or werewolves, for that matter, but the blood-suckers are a tad bit over-rated) but there's something about thIs trailer that looks cheesy, in the super-smelly limburger kind of way.

This looks like it has potential, but like Kaitlin mentioned in the main post, there really is an overdose of witches on television shows as of late (And now Being Human US seems to be heading into ghost-witch territory even moreso, too, so I officially am watching almost all the werewolf/ghost/witch/vampire television airing atm). What I'd like to see more than anything in a show like this, is for there to be -no- supernatural elements, or almost minimal- playing into the psychology of the witch-hunt/mob mentality that led to the atrocities that occurred, making it more about the fear, and how it turns people into darker things than anything supernatural could provide.

Looks sexy..... But a bloody wolf's head on a human body? Hmm. That's original. I wonder why no show have never down that before? /Game of Thrones related sarcasm.

The Salem witch trials mark a pretty terrible time in history. A lot of innocent people were killed for nothing more than religious, and political hysteria. So far this show does not look like it's going to deal with any of the complexities of what happened.

I'm all for shows about witches that are pure ridiculous entertainment. But a show about Salem should strive to be more.

I'll pass.

... Why not?

I mean, I sat through the pilot of "Black Sail" and probably will watch the whole damn first season (one episode in, and I'm already not expecting much out of it), and its first trailer certainly wasn't as good as this one.

So, yeah, I'm in. Kinda. For now.

It looks better than anything USA Network has put on in the past five years. A new player that has been around forever. Shane West, Janet Montgomery, Seth Gable, witches - looks interesting. 20th Century Fox behind it.. Lets see what WGN is bringing..

Firstly...nice wig Shane West!Either it was filmed over time and he grew his hair out, or the dude's got a seriously good head of hair. As for the whole witches issue, I don't really mind at all if it's done well. Whether this will be that is another matter, I'm definitely a little intrigued. It doesn't really scream 'I've just gotta watch this' at me though like some new shows. I am into supernatural stuff big time so I'll give it a go and maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised, and yes, they seriously need a better voice over.

Maybe with more info I'll like this show more but right now it looks cheap and typically (meaning nothing special to distinguish it from the thousands of horror movies)

I can't wait for this show. I love shows like this. Not only is it base on history, but it also has some supernatural elements.

I'm a little torn (oddly this morning, I should clarify, I use morning TV to time my getting ready for work, you know, if I am only here at this news break in, I have to hurry or skip step b and a long time news anchor in my area who was like part of everyone my age's child hood died and the network dedicated their morning to him, but I kind of needed GMA to time so I was flipping and don't remember seeing this channel, but my cable is weird) because well, there are so many witches and sometimes you feel like enough already. Like, if I hear of another one descending onto TVD I will groan, but the witches on the Originals and Witches of East End are very fun (and on WEE, they have the advantage of they are clearly going to be tapping into Fae stuff), Coven is just crazy fun and I have this sense that we are about a season away (like season five) of introducing witches onto Teen Wolf, but, well, I am from Massachusetts. I love both Shane West and Seth Gabel...sigh, I weirdly kind of hope this is a Saturday night show that won't conflict too badly with Orphan Black.
