We've been talking for nearly nine months about NBC's Awake, one of the strongest new network offerings for the 2011-2012 TV season. Now we can finally stop talking and start watching. NBC has followed the recent trend of generating buzz for new shows by posting pilots online before they premiere on TV, and we have the first episode of Awake for you right here.
The series, created by Kyle Killen (the man behind the too-good-for-network-television Lone Star) and executive producer/showrunner Howard Gordon (executive producer of Homeland), follows a cop (Jason Isaacs) who copes with the untimely death of loved ones in a unique fashion. After a fatal car crash, his mind creates two realities—one where his wife survived, and one where his son survived. He bounces back and forth between the two existences, solving cases as clues bleed between the two realities and he hangs on to the memory of his family.
I'm not going to lie. It's a tearjerker, but it's also a thought-provoking mind-bender. Watch it, tell your friends about it, tell your friends to tell their friends about it, and let's do our best to get this solid show off to a good start so it isn't replaced by another singing competition show.
Group hug in the comments afterwards.
