WB's Fran, Blue Collar put on hold

WB Network has benched the comedies Living With Fran and Blue Collar TV in an effort to rejuvenate its Friday and Sunday lineups, respectively.

As of Friday, WB will shift 8:30 p.m. newcomer Twins to the 9:30 p.m. slot behind Reba, WB's highest-rated show on the night. The 8-9 p.m. hour will feature back-to-back episodes of What I Like About You. Fran, starring Fran Drescher as a woman who lives with her adult son and young boyfriend, has been failing to hold on to much of Reba's coattails in the 9:30 p.m. berth this season.

Fran, produced by Regency TV, will remain in production on its 13-episode order and will return to WB's schedule later this season, a network spokesman said. In its most recent outing, Fran drew 2.7 million viewers coming out of Reba's 3.7 million.

On Sunday, WB will replace the double dose of sketch comedy Blue Collar in the 9 p.m. hour with a repeat of its hot new Tuesday drama Supernatural. Blue Collar, from Warner Bros. TV, has had the misfortune of facing off against ABC's top-rated Desperate Housewives; in its most recent airing, the two installments of Blue Collar averaged 2.4 million viewers. Still, the show will remain in production and return to the network's lineup later this season.

WB brass also have decided to relocate the 9 p.m. Wednesday freshman drama Related to the post-7th Heaven 9 p.m. Monday berth, where another new fall drama, Just Legal, did a fast fade after three airings. Repeats of Related will continue to run in the 9 p.m. Wednesday slot for the foreseeable future, the spokesman said.
