As the execution date of a death row inmate (guest star David Marciano) approaches, Lightman (Tim Roth) and his ex-wife Zoe (guest star Jennifer Beals) question their decision to help convict him 17 years ago. The episode is also a mini The Shield reunion; in addition to Marciano, David Rees Snell, Catherine Dent, and Benito Martinez also guest-star.

Chloe (Ashley Holliday) and Alistair host separate birthday parties, causing some major awkwardness between the two. I'm guessing it's cool with everyone else, though, because what's better than two birthday parties (other than buying two gifts)?

While in Italy, Teresa and Joe serve as guides and chefs for their tour group and Danielle hires a private investigator to learn more about her family. Really? A PI? This isn't a cop show.

This new comedy is all about Cathy Jamison (Laura Linney), a schoolteacher, mother, and cancer patient. In the premiere, she learns about her diagnosis but struggles to tell her family about it. Trust us, it's funnier than it sounds.
